FIFA 17 News & Discussion Thread

All these videos seem silly-fast to me, especially the ball physics - even the one that's on "slow". I've seen penalties where the ball hits the keeper and bobbles around all over his upper body like it's in fast-forward. Everything looks very direct too - but I'm hoping that's because the human player(s) keep pulling everybody out of position.

It looks as if the game itself just wants you to get to the next shot and really can't be bothered with all that midfield stuff.

Not one long ball played once and the user never used width or did he work the ball..It was just pass forward and run at defenders..

Again the game easily rewards one dimensional play and there's no real advantage for ball retention,or letting the ball do the work..

Centre backs pulled out of position still recovering at lightning quick speed.

Looks nice and moves smoothly but Barcelona looked and played like Real Madrid and there was zero differences between the two teams..

Easy goals where fast forwards could just run in strait lines through defenders.

No balance as defenders and forwards moved at exactly the same speed and the midfield was non existent..

Big step backwards for me and disappointing because it looks like since rutler left,ea are pandering to the simple crowd again.

Can't say I was overly impressed with that video, visually it looks very poor (probably a combination of being on Xbone and Youtube's horrific compression), the AI of Real Madrid looked decent, not sure what skill level it was played on? I'm assuming the guy playing as Barcelona hadn't played a football game before.

I really liked the way in 14 you could retain the ball and easily exploit the gaps and punish players that just passed forward and left gaps..the midfield just felt more robust.

Then we had the initial release build of 16 which was imo brilliant, but it become more watered down with every update to pander to users that just like to play fast.

Im going to check the demo out because as you say the guy playing wasn't a glowing endorsement of the game.

There's just seems this fear all the time that not pandering to more casual players will hurt sales and Fifa always falls short of what it could potentially be..

The gameplay isn't evolving as much as it should.

The match day atmosphere is really impressive, they even have Alan Keegan who is the official PA at Old Trafford, Penalties are mental but I like them, Standing tackles seem a lot better and you actually keep possesion if you win the ball instead of it bouncing 20 yards away.

Keepers are better, they make some amazing saves and their throws are fixed now.

If only the pace wouldnt be so hectic

Yeah it certainly comes across as an arcade fest in some of the videos.

I appreciate that there should be a difference between fast players and slow players, but it seems like they've gone from one extreme (fifa 16) where there's minimal difference to where fast players are untouchable.

I feel sorry for anyone playing online in the hope of some realistic football matches. It's going to be end to end sprinting down the wings.

I'm hoping setting to slow with some adjustments to sliders will result in a decent career mode game. What would really improve the game for me is an emphasis on team individuality. I find in Fifa on certain difficulties it's literally just team A vs team B.

So first impressions of the Beta are..

Visually its stunning. Videos don't do it justice. So much polish and a silky smooth frame rate, nice kit and net physics too.

Most of my settings carried over from FIFA 16 which was cool, so played kickoff mode on slow and Semi Assisted. Only tried professional which provided a decent challenge so far.

Something which you can't tell from the videos and you really need to play it to understand is just how well the weight of players and how much inertia stands out. Sprinting down the wing and stopping on a dime isn't so easy this time.

Also Penaltys are weird. Definitely not going to be mastered first time by anyone.

I know its all fluff and gameplay matters but loving the attention to detail like the improved stadium annoucers and player interactions also scored with madrid and a nice little spanish song played over the tannoy lol

Ai does some neat little stuff like block you off and let ot roll out for the throw ins goalkicks then quickly get the ball moving again these now a quick goalkick option be handy for counter attacks

What do you think of the new free kick / corner system ?

One of the key features is the "active intelligence system", a.i are apparently more aware of their surroundings, make use of space etc.

Have you noticed a difference in your team mates a.i compared to 16?

Also is there an increase in player individuality?

Have you tried the "psuhback tech"? The new shielding thing they've introduced.

I just want to know ultimately the main difference in terms of feel between fifa 16 and 17, what's the first thing you noticed when you kicked off?

Does it feel faster like for like, e.g slow on 17 vs slow on 16?

That doesn't show up on the videos. It still looks like it's too easy for players to receive the ball with their back to goal and turn on a dime.

:SNACK::SNACK::SNACK::SNACK::SNACK::SNACK::SNACK::SNACK::SNACK: Come release these will be some peoples words getting eaten. Forget playing as Butt fuck United and Real Blow Job play as championship teams and feel the atmosphere.

I need some positives, all I'm seeing is wingers belting it past defenders and cheap direct passing...

Same here, although I think that's mainly down to the people playing it. The only difference being that this time that tactic seems to work more than it did in 16.

I want to see (and hear) from people that play realistically, as opposed to end to end like a basketball match.

How do people enjoy simply passing it to a wide player or winger sprinting down the wing and scoring cheap goals over and over again. I'd be bored after 2 matches of doing that, especially offline.

Not going to get into the negatives because there are not many that i've seen this is as close to the real thing as i've seen.

I'm not seeing anyone playing with intelligence, it's all direct and/or to the wings with no tactical consideration...

Give me some positives to keep me going...
