FIFA 13

Has anyone used the Kinect features to good effect yet?

Finally had my goalkeeper sent off yesterday too (DEMO), at last a reason to have a GK on your subs bench :-)

In my second game on the full game I properly made the keeper look a clown with Ibrahimovic, he clipped me and got sent off.

Has anyone else noticed that the international players who don't have a club in Career Mode are now in Free Agents?! Excellent stuff!

Interesting post, and I tend to agree with much of what you said, particularly about a blend of the best of FIFA and PES being what we really want, and the need for PES to have sliders or some way to prevent the cpu from being 100% perfect too much of the time.

Thanks and yes I agree it is a must. The PES AI can be torturous at times, even when using Jenkey's mod to disable the scripting the problem is that as soon as you go above Professional difficulty, the CPU (on the ball at least) play every minute of the game as though it were the last minute of the World Cup final. But if you then lower it down to Professional which provides a more balanced affair, you just never feel like you are in danger of conceding unless it's one of those dreaded scripted routines from throw-ins and set-pieces, and this is primarily because Jenkey has tweaked the CPU attack routines to not rely on killer through balls so much, but the absence of which and the resultant lack of CPU cutting edge only seems to underline how much they rely on those situations to provide what essentially amounts to artificial difficulty. So the only somewhat-happy medium I've found is playing the unmodded gameplay on Professional difficulty because at least you have to make some effort to defend the through balls and you aren't subject to hideous levels of cheats and scripts. Should it really be this hard though? Just give us sliders and problem sorted.

I felt that way going into career mode in FIFA 12, but I suspect you'll find that, after a few matches in career mode, it's not quite as mouthwatering a prospect as it is now. Whilst playing in League 2, you may at first delight in playing against a bunch of error prone, cumbersome teams, with semi-realistic scrappy play, but I suspect you'll soon start to feel like you're just playing against the same team over and over for 46 matches.

That's a good point actually. At least I see evidence that it may have improved since the last time I tried a career mode in FIFA 10, where not only was there no difference in playing style between Barcelona and Barnet but there was also a disturbing lack of difficulty drop when going from the former to the latter. In this demo I certainly feel the difference playing with City against Dortmund as opposed to against Arsenal, Dortmund tend to sit back more and the onus is slightly more on myself to make something happen and they will tend not to get more adventurous until the second half. But as you say the lack of variation in playing styles would probably ruin it for me, if League 2 teams are attempting to play a slick passing game I'd quickly lose patience. :CONFUSE:

One thing I'm not liking about playing vs. the CPU, and I suppose it highlights wider issues with the defensive system, is how the AI team performs these crazy dribbles on the wing in order to make room for a cross, and for the life of me I simply cannot get tight enough to prevent it a lot of the time. Even if I bring a second man over they will get the cross in more often than not, with or without any support. Maybe there is some trick that I haven't caught onto yet. I still feel that my defenders are a bit too jittery though, they don't have that nice solidity that you get when using PES's equivalent of contain. Hopefully they will work on this aspect of the game next year in order to improve the attack/defence balance slightly.

Well I've used it, not sure about good effect but it's interesting, the one massive problem though is when your kinect is active there's a big bar/logo on the bottom right showing kinect and it covers the name of the opponent on the ball so unless you can recognise the player you have no idea who it is and don't know which way to send them to put them onto their weak foot, quite dumb from EA.

Haha that is really stupid, sometimes you think if they actually test these things out. The first time a tester sits and plays a game and sees that it covers the name, you would think they would go 'well that is a problem, we need to change that straight away' but no?!

EA and testers? Surely an oxymoron ;) How many years has the Xbox friend notification blocked the radar again? And they could easily move it if they wanted to many other games place the notification elsewhere.

I've been well up for buying this game when it come out as I've loved the demo on professional level, everything felt balanced, nicely paced, the AI plays some intelligent football....then I tried it on World Class. Oh dear. All the good work seems to go out of the window. If its like this in the final version then I'll give this game a miss this year.

The reason is that when I switch to World Class, rather than the AI feeling more intelligent like it should, if feels more difficult but actually dummed down. There's no sense of AI build up play whatsoever, it's programmed to attack constantly. You can visibly see the CPU players moving far faster than on pro, they now twist and turn all over the place and just rush forwards all the time. World Class seems to increase the pace of the game considerably and the CPU plays like it's on crack. It plays rush football, reacts faster, runs faster and is able to win physical challenges. That's all it does. From being an awesome game it's suddenly turned into some end to end counter attack-fest with the CPU playing like its a goal down in injury time for the entire match.

Is it like this in the full version? Can't be arsed if it is.

Played a lot more demo matches, a large percentage of my goals are still coming from cut backs in the box and rebounds from keepers, which is ridiculous given that this hasn't change for several years now, these are the things that make the online experience frustrating. The defenders need to show more urgency and be willing to get back on the line or dive in to prevent those cheap goals.

It's a shame because there are some really unique goal situations now, I scored a 25-30 yard volley with Clichy from a cleared corner that he didn't connect cleanly with but because it went through a forest of players the keeper was unsighted and it trickled in.

The other thing I hate about FIFA coming from PES is the lack of replays, and the poor quality of them, you might think it's nitpicking but when you have a shot fly just over the bar and it instantly cuts to the keeper taking a goal kick it's such an anti-climax, watching the replays really slows the pace of the game down and makes it feel more authentic. I'm not sure if the replays have been cut down or something in the demo version but even on goals I'm only seeing a single replay and then it cuts straight to the kick off, the celebrations seem to be given more time and focus than re-watching the scorcher you just pulled off.

Another thing I noticed is that underclocking or overclocking my GPU makes slight differences to the perceived game speed, so one reason that the final version game speed might feel quicker for some people is that it's been optimised on their particular setup since the demo. I do agree with the general consensus here that it would benefit from being slowed down, and I think part of that is you should have to fill up the power bar more on semi/assisted passing, it's practically meaningless at the moment except for choosing a further away target, that alone would slow things down a touch.

Yep Definitely, I forgot to mention this, but I noticed it last night.

When you have a chance on goal they tend to just get on with the action straight away without showing an automatic replay. They should show the replay straight after. Or at least if you press a button (say select) then it shows that replay, then you have the choice.

The Highlights are still crap as well, they should just play back the saved highlights you can go to manually after the game, they seem to pick up most of the best bits then, but in the actual highlights at the end of the half/game they pick out rubbish or only one or two chances.

Another annoying thing as well is when you or the Computer does a sub, they highlight on the player for ages of him walking around the pitch and you can't cut that scene.

I'm doing the skill games on shooting, and it's advising me to hold LT when the cross comes in so my player will attempt to do a scissor/overhead kick or special strike at goal. I didn't realise I had to do this. Am I right in thinking that if I don't hold LT then my player won't try these kind of moves? Can't remember this from F12, TBH.

LT is the volley modifier, it was added for FIFA 12. When the ball is in the air, LT+shoot forces a volley attempt rather than a header.

I didn't know that either. I'm clearly useless at keeping up with these kind of changes between different yearly updates of games!

Sorry for being dim, but what is LT in PS3 speak?

Also anyone know if trophy celebrations are improved? (trivial I know!)

Check my video. AEK-Olympiacos fifa13 on slow speed, retail dvd disk not the early access. CPU is playing, default sliders, i am recording with iphone 4s. TV is Panasonic Plasma 3D 55VT50. Sorry for the quality

YouTube - Fifa 13

Please EA update the game!!!!!

A friend of mine as the retail for the pc seeing as he works in a computer shop. Not saying which one tho and iv played it and to me it seems slower then the demo. Thats me thinking that tho people might think differnt.

I've heard from several people who have the final game (on disk) that the gameplay is considerably slower. Early access game probably older code...
Never even considered that. Surely it's final code just with certain bits locked?!

The tagline of Season Ticket is "get the game early", and they make no mention of it NOT being final code. I'm sure there's a legal requirement that has to tell you if it isn't on the splash screen - which is what happens in the demo.

Otherwise I might get worried again, because last night I had an amazing game of football...

That's bugging me.
It's a loading screen. It's not that you're forced to watch it because they want you to look at their glorious graphics. It's loading...

Remember when it used to be a camera panning around the stadium while it happened?

Romily Broad replied to a tweet of Placebo's years ago and said "what do you suggest we do while the game is loading data for the substitute", and now instead of the same unskippable stadium panning cut-scene, we have the unskippable player cut-scene.
