Fifa 13: Career Mode Discussions

I read it too! What does your 3-4-3/3-4-2-1 formation look like?

Essentially looks like this:

Started a campaign with Liverpool on legendary of course.
2 games played so far, against West Brom and Arsenal. They are full games but i do try to keep the games as entertaining as possible. Nothing worse than dull commentary.

How do you get espn coverage on ps3???

Ah nice to know the post isn't in vain haha! Make sure to keep us updated with your Southend side's cup run/season, hope you make it past Chelsea!

An update on Southend's season.

In the league we beat Cheltenham away with a late penalty from D. Cabrera to end their unbeaten run. They were 3rd we were top so a big 3 points.

Next Aldershot at home (pos 1-13) they were also unbeaten, finished 1-1. F. Eastwood equalising in the 9th minute. Not a good game. We are starting to struggle a bit and it has coincided with a drop in form for B. Assombalonga who hasn't scored in 5 games now.

Then it's AFC Wimbledon away 18th against 1st. They go 1-0 up through S. Moore (8) D. Cabrera (40) makes it 1-1, S. Moore (64) 2-1, we are really struggling but then D. Cabrera (90) scores a great goal, turning 2 defenders before striking into the top of the net. I was running round the room, he is quickly becoming our best player. Saving our unbeaten record too 2-2.

Next though, league cup round 3 at home to Chelsea who are 3rd in the EPL. What really impressed me is that they put out a weakened side. They had a 19 year old striker called Bamford, and 19 year old GK called Blackman. They had a full strength bench though, Czech, Lampard, Hazard, and Benzema (record signing in transfer window 22 mil).

1st min and Cahill gave it straight to Cabrera but his shot went straight at the goalkeeper.
8th min Ramires scores, I thought it would now be a complete hammering but we had our chances and held out till the 62 min when Mata scored a double deflected free kick. They brought him off and brought on Hazard, job done. Benzema then came on for Bamford, it was good to see him at Roots Hall. But it was Cahill who wrapped it up for Chelsea 0-3. Walk in the park for them but very realistic.

Oh well at least we are still top of league 2, next up Morecambe. A bit of a come down from Chelsea.

Yeah, it's clean sheets. Is that David Cabrera you have in your squad? He was a beast for my Mainz team.

Ok thanks, it's just that it shows clean sheets for out field players too :CONFUSE:
One CM for one team had a total of 3 clean sheets and the total clean sheets for their goalkeepers only comes to 2

Yes it is David Cabrera, but since my last post things have taken a turn for the worse, in the league we lost 2 and won one (thankfully). But we are now out of the J Paint Trophy. Suddenly Cabrera can't hit the target and I am starting to struggle in defence. I am beginning to find that the CPU is giving me the wrong players to control. It cost me 2 goals tonight and have found it frustrating.

Hopefully be better tomorrow.

Maybe he was subbed before the GK conceded? ;-p

Yeh it could be. I think the point I'm trying to make is that I thought clean sheets only count towards GK's. In the 'player stats' it shows clean sheets for only the GK's but on the 'team stats' page it shows all players with clean sheets. So sometimes the outfield players have more clean sheets than the GK's. It just looks strange imo.

I know what you mean geeeee but I think you have missed my point - let's take an example:

Game 1 - 0-0 GK1 Plays and CM plays
Game 2 - 1-1 GK1 plays and CM plays but is subbed BEFORE his team concede a goal.

GK1 shows 1 clean sheet
CM shows 2 clean sheets

Scroll forward to 8:35 seconds in that video.

He says that players can FAR exceed their potential by simply playing them. This is both good and bad. Good because nothing in life is set in stone and a player performing well and getting play time may surprise all of us and even scouts and turn out better than anyone ever expected him to.

Now the extent of it is probably the bad news? He's done a test with players whose potential was rated BELOW 80 and saw that some of them turned out be the world's VERY best players by getting a lot of playing time.

8:35 into the video for example, you see that he signed up a guy Luke James who had 74 potential and yet after a lot of playing time, his OVR is currently 89!!!

I get your point entirely :))

It's just that i have never heard of the guys on match of the day say "that's Van Persie's 30th goal and 20th clean sheet this season"

Anyway what's happened to your careers' guys, all i am seeing at the moment are Southend's failures :P

Ah ok, yes, I see your point now - sorry! It is really stupid but I guess it would have been equally baffling to have 0's in all outfield player columns too ;-p

As for my career, I tried desperately to escape the mediocrity of Villareal but despite applying for the Spurs, Milan, Lazio, Napoli and Bayern 04 jobs about 10 times each, no one would take me.

So I ripped up my squad in the January transfer window, selling all of my most valuable players and brought in some bargains and unknowns from the J-League and the like.

I've since had one game with my debutants and earned a noble 2-2 draw at home to Real with two of my debutants scoring.

I shall enjoy seeing how they work out in the second half of the season but I'll defo be looking for a more glamorous job in the summer. We're on schedule to finish mid-table which is what my objective is (literally) - we're just 5 points from the European places and 15 from the bottom 3.

I have also taken the Northern Ireland job and gained a decent 1-1 draw away to Russia in my first game (despite the match review showing a headline of "defeat"....).

Has any of you guys experienced any other bugs SINCE the patch???

I started my Liverpool season again afresh after the patch.

I am into the Quarter Finals of the Capitol One Cup.
I had beaten Rotherham Utd to get the, The match between Wigan Athletic and Bristol City ended 1-1(the match of who I face the winner)

Now the confusing part!!!!

They announce the results(voice) and say Wigan 1 Bristol City 1, Bristol City win 5-4 on Penalties.

Ok so I have my hometown club in the quarters ok!!!

Fixtures played out until i have the quarter final next!!

AGAINST WIGAN!!!!!! WTF?????? How???lol

So the deadline for January has now passed and after 30 league games I sit atop of the league, although i'm level on points (65) with Charlton who have a game in hand over me.

Here is a summary of my transfer dealings:

IN

Ballon (CDM) - Free
Fabio Nunes (LW) - On loan, Blackburn
Haye (CAM) - On loan, AZ Alkmaar

OUT

Hourihane - £1,000,000, Leeds
Gorman - Loan ended, returned to Wolves.

I brought in Ballon because Wotton is retiring at the end of the season and i'd only be left with Fathy to occupy the CDM position. He should be better than Fathy, in terms of ratings, so I thought he was worth a punt.

Not too fussed about Hourihane now as Haye has done pretty well so far; Young has once again become the focal point of all my good play, pretty much all over the pitch.

So that's right; fuck you Hourihane! :SMOKIN:

Haven't seen that (I don't think). It's possible that EA somehow flipped the commentary of winner and loser. I would assume the actual winner was Wigan, and the commentary for penalty winners may be reversed as a bug.

Decided to abandon my CM with Numancia, just not really enjoying Fifa at the minute. Anybody got a preferred set of sliders that they would recommend to me? As there's something about the game that I'm just not enjoying. Also, is it worth going full manual?

I like my sliders but there's a few different ones you can try, mine are designed for English football, I tried Nerf's but they're way too slow for my liking, probably good if you want to stick to Spanish football though :)

I like Placebo's sliders but I changed the defensive line settings to give me a deeper defence.

As for manual, I'm undecided. I have through balls and crosses manual but passing and shooting on semi as there's nothing that spoils my enjoyment of the game more than when I can't complete a 6 yard pass or hit the target from 12 yards.

On a separate note, I earned another credible draw with Northern Ireland last night, strangely they have made me enjoy the game again as I've had to re-design how I play the game.

And I followed up my excellent 2-2 draw with Real (as Villareal) with a 3-0 win over Real Valladoid (sp?) and then I TONKED Hercules 5-0 with some gorgeous football interspersed with some good old fashioned CF play by my massive mountain of a Korean Kim Wook Bin (I think that's his name).

He really is the best player I've ever played with on any game, really brings a different dimension to my game. 6' 5", so very strong and decent skill and pace too.

(You'd think I'd respect him enough to remember his name like...)

My love for the game has been re-born since signing him and taking on the Northern Ireland job (I can't explain why, it's just like everything has suddenly clicked).

I signed this guy on a free transfer at the start of this season, ridiculously good defender, 6ft 6", pacey, already got the aerial threat speciality and will undoubtedly get strength and tackling before the season is over:

Currently playing him at the centre of a back three with Boyata on one side and Bruma on the other, expect to be able to sell the guy for £25m+ shortly but part of me want to keep hold of him and see how good he becomes :)

I've got a similar dilemma with Benedetti (18-year-old striker who I picked up on a free in the summer).

I received an offer of £5 mil from Freiburg (I think), but I obviously rejected. He's up to 74 now and his value could well almost double soon.

I generally hate having players without faces, which is why the plan was always to sell him on... but I kinda like him now :/

Bloody hell - that's a great find!

Indeed, the funny thing is I also picked up another free generated CB who would have been good enough as a squad player if Reynaud hadn't been so incredible, so even if I sell Reynaud I can develop this other one who if I remember correctly is also 20 and valued at something like £3m with a current OVR of 72 or 73.

I generally hate having players without faces:/

Yup I'm absolutely the same, so I'd be reasonably happy to sell him should an offer come in, I think it'll be better to sell him next year as I'm sure by the end of the season he'll be low 80s easily so his core value should be £15-£20m meaning I should get at least £30m-£35m for him which will give me a decent transfer kitty for once!

Small Blackburn Rovers update :)

Sitting 3rd with 6 games to go, 3 points behind Wolves who are top and 1 behind Bolton above me. I noticed that my last 2 games of the season are against those two with only a couple of days in between. The last game is going to be epic!

Kazim-Richards and Rhodes have been magnificent, 15 and 14 goals respectively. Most notable signings that have made a difference were Andre Santos from arsenal, David Navarro, loan deals for Brahim Sterling and Paul Pogba. Need to replace the ageing Danny Murphy and Nuno Gomes after promotion.

This season I have found my mexico career getting in the way of the blackburn games, mainly as they have just been friendlies. I had an international break and played Ivory Coast home and away!

I am currently still on all manual controls with semi passing, playing on professional with no slider amendments at all. To be honest it is a bit too easy, but when I get promoted :) I am going to move to all manual and placebo sliders.

This should make the EPL games seem harder anyway, though I am not sure whether to jump straight to legendary.

Decided to give Lecointe a good run of games to see how he does. Benedetti has been good but he's not been prolific enough in terms of goals.

So, a short while later and Lecointe has scored 2 in as many matches; helping me to secure a 2-1 win over Crawley and a 1-0 win over Doncaster Rovers. Long may it continue! :P

I've now only got 12 league games left to play for this season, and we've all but secured an automatic promotion place (currently 1st). Unless some horrific turn of fortunes occurs, we should be playing in the Championship next season! :SMUG:

EDIT: I haven't mentioned Brosque in a while. So if you're interested, he's still been scoring a good number of goals (in comparison with his appearances). I usually bring him off the bench late on in games if i'm needing a goal; i've been playing him on the left of my front 3 too recently and he's done pretty well.

ol

well, yes, along these lines. so playing the replay of my semi-final game against liverpool. great game tone of fun... gerrard evens it out against my gunners in the 119minute so it goes to penalties... three liverpool players try to chip it... three times in a row! i clobber them on penalties. go to advance and they bracket screen has them winning!!! even though the penalties are assigned to me. they advance. i know the FA cup is odd, but i don't understand their rules:)

of course being a video game i will play it again... very annoying as i havent replayed anything to this point!!
