Fifa 13: Career Mode Discussions

I could buy Messi/Ronaldo but their wage is too high (275k compared to Ramirez's 130k). Besides I actually countered 120m but Real Madrid accepted and bought him. Then I went to browse the best CF's to replace him and the list indicated he was the best in the list. 90 at 24yrs, can play twice a week easily, left footed (advantage from the position he plays with el shaaraway) and reasonable wage. So, loaded the game prior to the counter offer. can get the same if not more for him next season.

Oh fair enough, I suppose you weren't expecting them to accept!

I thought i'd just do a quick update:

Only 3 games into the season and i'm already starting to really like my 'new look' squad.

A tense 1-0 win against Barnet in the League Cup, followed by two league games against Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City; ending in a 1-1 draw and a 3-1 win respectively.

Gobulov has 2 goals in 2 games, Bassi has 2 in 3, Ulm has been an absolute tank at the back so far and Vidal has also been impressive. Emerton, my only other remaining summer signing, has yet to feature.

Here's my 'new look' team:

Starting XI

GK. Vidal
RB. Bandalovski
CB. Nelson
CB. Ulm
LB. Masenamela
CDM. Ballon
CAM. Young
CAM. Bassi
RW. Gurrieri
LW. Gobulov
ST. Benedetti

Subs Bench

GK. Gilmartin
CB. Blanchard
CDM. Fathy
CM. Sarmov
LW. Porokara
ST. Lecointe
ST. Brosque

Reserves

RW. Lennox
CM. Lowry
CAM. Copp
CDM. Macklin (a youth player who suddenly appeared)
RB. Berry
CB. Emerton
LB. Bhasera

I ended up having to release Williams on a free because, even although plenty of offers came in for him, his wage demands and over-ambitious nature were causing negotiations to persistently break down.

The only remaining transfer business i'm looking to do at the moment is to ship off Macklin on loan - I took a gamble on Lecointe and it's paid off, so why not this dude, right?

So after playing on Placebos sliders and finding Fifa rather fun again, I decided to begin a new CM with the newly promoted York City in the Npower League 2.

My initial assessment of the team was that it was absolutely dreadful and that I'd find it hard to even avoid the bottom part of the table with them, as the only player of quality(and I use that word lightly) was ex-Burnley defender Clark Carlisle. Another issue was the minuscule transfer kitty available which was £160,000 if I remember correctly.

My first move was to get myself a scout and although he is only a 1 star scout I figured it would do for now as it could provide some prospects to help fill out my rather thin squad. I then moved on to shifting the dead weight within the squad and offloaded Reid (first name escapes me) an overall 45 ST who was too old develop too much and was not very flexible, I got £40,000 for him from Barnet. The only signing I have actually made thus far was bringing in Shane Ferguson (LM-65OVR) from Newcastle on loan for the season to increase the quality of the team.

An so commenced the friendlies:
0-1 (L) vs Jeonbuk FC
2-1 (L) Sturm Graz
2-1 (W) Drogheda United

During the friendlies I realised that my favoured 3-4-3 formation was not going to do the job and so adopted a 3-5-2 formation, with my CDM Kerr sitting deeper than the other 2 CM's which provided a great outlet during the game vs Drogheda and allowed us to keep hold of the ball much better thanks to Kerr playing a blinder. So we went into the first league game off the back of an impressive and dominant performance in the final friendly and played Dagenham. The majority of the game was played in the middle of the pitch until the last 15 minutes where we decided to press more and ended up cutting open the Dagenham defence to allow Dobie to have a one on one that was saved and then deflected into the net by retreating defender. We hung on and kept a clean sheet and took 3 points from our first game of the season. Once again Kerr played brilliantly and Bristol Rovers came in with a bid of £90,000 for him which I swiftly rejected as he keeps my midfield ticking over. So we're sitting 9th in the league after the first game resulting in a win for us which is the best possible start we could have had, things are looking better than expected.

Anyway, I'll update as I progress more into the season, cheers for reading if you have.

Not entirely sure how I can make career mode more enjoyable for me  I was thinking about starting one wit Southampton because I've read some really good stuff about Ramirez and I like the challenge of taking a not so good premier league team and developing them into title contenders and then even Champions "CUP" (League) winners:)) Any ideas on fun career modes to do?

How about a league you're not used to? You could try and restore a fallen team from relegation to European competiton (ie Villarreal, Blackburn, Monaco).
If not - or as well as - some of us here add a few different rules (accept all offers for players, only sign youngsters, or no "big name" players, etc).

In FIFA12 I had the most fun with the German league, which is why I'm currently doing the same with 13 (until the new year, when I'll start a United one). In FIFA 11 it was Ajax, using a transfer policy of only signing U-21s.

I beat Wolves in the playoff final 2-1. Losing 1-0 with 15 minutes to go, i decided to change tactics to 4-3-3 (from my 4-1-3-2), it worked wonders and I scored twice in the last 10 minutes, with Rhodes getting the winner with a sublime back post header deep into injury.

Great stuff, now to build a squad to survive in the Premier League.

Started a campaign with Liverpool on legendary of course.
2 games played so far, against West Brom and Arsenal. They are full games but i do try to keep the games as entertaining as possible. Nothing worse than dull commentary.

Fucking POS buggy game, just starting my 4th season, week before the first friendly and it keeps freezing when I try to advance, one time I got to the friendly, played it and it froze when the match was finished, tried playing while offline, deleting the game install and running from DVD etc nothing's helping :(

OK need some help, got £12 million and £60,000 wage budget, any recommendations for players that are cheap but can cope with the demands of the Premier League.

Andreas Beck from Hoffenheim is a solid RB that is good going forward and defensively and is only 25 so has the potential to develop a bit more. Not sure on his value but should cost £5m maximum going off my knowledge of him from Fifa 12. Not sure whether he'll be cheaper/more expensive but he is a very sturdy German right back that would serve the team well for many seasons, plus me being a fellow Blackburn fan, I know all to well how the club is bereft of decent right backs haha.

I suggest Southampton if you prefer EPL. Newly promoted side, more exciting than WHU & QPR. Quality youth players potential of 85 like Ward Porse, Luka Shaw.. and of course Ramirez.

Ospina (GK)just rose to 88 overall and with Reflex (94) now. Another player surpassed all my expectations..
and after joining England as national coach, I realized I've no English players in my Southampton team. Not even in reserves..

Good advice for career modes, but I decided to go with Southampton. Really enjoying it so that's all that matters:)) will keep you posted on my squad and what not soon. But currently taking a few days off from Fifa because of Assassins Creed 3!

Jelle Vossen (KRC Genk) is a natural goal scorer.
Andreas Invanschitz and Soto (Mainz) are both quite good, but i don't think they are cheap.
Also like Arango (Borrussia Monchengladbach), but that was in FIFA12

These have done well for me (OK they might not play every game), but have done a good job at Dortmund :)

Pedj Bojic - Australian RB, with great engine. Very cheap as well, less than £500k anyway.

Jerry Mbakogu - pacy striker. Can get on a loan to buy for about £1m-£1.5m

Josh King - another quick striker, who can also play on the wing. Not a bad loan signing, but not how much he'd cost to buy.

Nicholas Yennaris - another youngster, this time a CDM.

IMO when you have such limited funds it's not so much about the who but about the how much, I would target the position I'm after, target the kind of OVR you want then trawl through looking for all players with 1 year or less on their contract, then you will get them much cheaper than their face value, alternatively in January look for players showing as poor form, you will get them much cheaper, for example I got Jay Rodriguez from Southampton for £3.5m (well I actually did a straight swap with one of my players valued at £3.5m) when he was valued at £5m but in poor form.

I've found that Marvell Wynee (the 97 paced CB) can keep up with the premier league game very well, and at the beginning of a new season he hasn't even got a contract, it runs out in the 1st month but he renews it, they ask for £100,000, but say he is too valuable, just offer them £0 and a player you'll never use worth at least £300,000 and they'll accept;)

He was my first choice CB along with Yun Young Sun in thefirst 2season with southampton. He is very effective and those runs even from CB are too.. Just 5k salary. Go for cedrick mabwati if u want a similar 97paced winger

On my Southampton career I don't play wingers really, so he'll be no use to me, but I'll be sure to check him out anyway:) cheers:P

Gobulov has been amazing so far, he's got 4 goals in 5 games now. He's incredibly quick for a player who stands at 6"3. He's got a great touch and quick feet. He also has an immense shot on him - in the last match against Ipswich he cut in from the left hand side and smashed one into the top right corner, with his weaker, right foot, from just outside the penalty area. He also scored a header earlier on.

Problem is, I don't think he's a real, 'legit' player. I suspect he's just been randomly generated and just shoved in the free agents.

Him and Punch on the left hand side are formidable though. I play them so they overlap almost constantly and it is working so well at the moment :BOP:

3 wins and a draw so far in the league

@TheBeautifulGame - If you're still interested,

My contract rebel Gilmartin has told me that he's not sure if he wants to leave now, and that he might decide to stay after all. In the past, this has usually meant that the player has indeed ended up staying and they then sign the contract I previously offered.

I'm almost certain this will be the case again now.

I don't know why ea has removed the board strictness selection from fifa13 cm because they can be too strict: I'm playing as everton and board expectation was to qualify for euro competition. I have finished 7th and they fired me. That is unrealistic because real-life David Moyes was never fired for finishing 7th (like for example last year).

If you think the board expectation is nonsense just load your save from the previous season's end and start the season again, I had to do that because of freezes and the expectations were varying from get to Euro league final, to qualify for Euro league to finish mid table.

Although, strange that 7th didn't get you into Europe? I last season agreed to qualify for Europe with the board to get extra money, finished 8th, they told me I'd failed to meet my goal but they'd give me another chance, look in season calendar and I had actually qualified for the first qualification round somehow :)

I started a career mode the other day with Sheffield Utd (npower league 1) simmed every game with a good squad of loanees, won the league, got promoted to the championship, and qualififed for Europe?:L I don't know if that's supposed to happen?

Hello guys, I have recently decided to start up a career mode with Southampton. Mainly because they have brought in Gaston Ramirez! The first thing I did as manager of my new club, was to check the squad for any players players that aren't starting that should be, and good players in the reserves that are better than my current subs etc etc...
Formation all looked good and everything, except from some little problems I had to sort. For example Ramirez was in the reserves?!?!? So I put him in my attacking midfield role, with Jay Rodrigues chilling in my Striker spot, I have some really good looking subs too like; Mayuka, 90spd,91acc,90agi,85bal. and that japanese Lee; 85spd,84acc,81agi. Both players look like really good ST options should something happen to rodriguez. I have finished the transfer window now with no notable players leaving me. Transfer dealings as follows:
Transfers In;
Jean-Fluminense-£2.8m
Kevin Nolan-West Ham-£0+old unused player
Mark Noble-West Ham-£750,000+crappy unused player
Marvell Wynne-Colarado Rapids-£0+unused cheap player
Morgaro Gomis-Birmingham City-£575,000
Martin Bravo-U.N.A.M.-£825,000
Ike Opara- SJ Earthquakes-£0+unused player
Makhtar Thioune-Viking FK-£0+unused player
My team after the window looks like this;
4-2-3-1
GK:Boruc 74
RB:Clyne 75
CB:Wynne 66
CB:Opara 64
LB:Buttner (LOAN) 70
CDM:Jean 75
CDM: Davis 72
LAM:Nolan 75
CAM:Ramirez 79
RAM:Noble 74
ST:Rodriguez 75

Subs;
GK: Davis 73
CM:Gomis 70
LM:Lallana 78
LW:Bravo 71
RW: De Ridder 70
ST:Mayuka 73
ST:Lee 70

Currently sitting 9th in the table after 3 games on only 3 points, 1 win and 2 losses.
Results
Lost; 2-1 vs Moneybags City
Won; 4-0 vs Wigan Athletic
Lost; 1-0 vs Manchester United- Hit the post in the 90th minute with Rodriguez :(

Will update again later Beginning of November probably after 2 months of action!:)

I think that this year's FIFA is probably the most frustating release ever. All the bugs are spoiling the fun of at last a decent CM feature.

I have noticed that the squad file might be one of the reasons of the frequent "freezing bug", the ghost players and the invisible football.
If I play with the squad file downloaded after installing the latest patch, the game becomes corrupted badly. If I play with the original file squad, the game responds reasonably well with very few issues.

On another topic and under my point of view, this year's series is mostly based on developing and nurturing player growth. For that reason, I have found that having the growth database handy helps a lot to get talent on board early and then sell it for a big profit. For that reason, I am truly enjoying starting CM in a lower division (World Class level). The prospects of nurturing talent will pay off.

In addition, the Free Agents mode is generating interesting players each season that can be served as a quick way of grabbing talent for free and selling it later for a good amount of money that will serve to tempt the known talent.

I am skipping scouts and development of youth players and free players because imo that is a cheat. Example: in fifa12 I played as league 2 Cheltenham. 1*scout soon found me a couple of youngsters worth 1-2 mil. That was too easy.
On the other hand I signed a couple of free players and sold them in next transfer window for total of 3mil.
Summary: cheltenhams budget rose from 0.5 mil to 6 mil (sold youth and free players). That is just too easy so I decided not to use scouts/youth players and free players in Fifa13 cm. That makes it more realistic imo.

You shouldn't post such things unless under spoiler tags, a lot of the people that read this thread and don't want to cheat with a list of "super growth" players.

Apologies, it was not my intention to spoil anything. Basically the players I had put there are the same ones that appear with the tag "exciting prospect" in the game.

I am afraid there's nothing hidden in the game this time around. I have deleted the message so doesn't hurt the sensibility of any candid soul.
