Fifa 13: Career Mode Discussions

Was out the whole weekend and haven't gotten the patch yet. I'm guessing it's been released for x360 by now. Has it made any difference to CM? Have some of the freezes/bugs and issues been fixed for those who've been playing?
 
So far in my second season I have had a poor start to the league campaign only managing 1 win and 2 draws after 3 games. However elsewhere things are looking much better. In the community shield I had tottenham which was a great encounter with the final score being 3-2 to me :D in the copa Europe it finished 1-0 to me against cska moscow. So far this I have been competing better in competition reaching the standards set by the board however far from what I need to be at in the league as my target is to win it.

After winning the copa Europe I got offered the England job which I could not resist. Played 2 games with them up to now with a 1-1 draw in the first game against Bulgaria in the first game with me struggling to create chances but off the back off that I got a 6-1 win over Denmark with all three points needed to qualify for the world championships. Rooney was at top form scoring 5 of the goals and then welbeck finished it off with a header in the last minute.

However I was disappointed that I couldn't choose my squad even though the option was there I couldn't select it as it was greyed out :(

I've had the same problem because I was going to get rid of the likes of bendtner and park and bring miyaichi onto the bench so he can get some action in the first team but there not back :CRY:
 
I'm just gonna wait for the patch before I start a new CM and hopefully that can be the REAL Long-term CM we enjoy and not something temporary because of a still buggy game that requires a 2nd patch.

Yeah when all these problems have been resolved I think I'll be starting a fresh
 
Just wondering if there is anyway that I can put a patch on to my PS3 without downloading it on the console. By that I mean can I put the patch file on to my USB and then put that on to my PS3? My University internet only allows one device to be connected for free so I can't hook my PS3 up, well I could but I'm just too cheap.
 
Why don't you hook your laptop up to the uni and then run your PS3's network through the laptop? as far as the uni sees only the laptop is online.

I don't know why they added the player trade option. It almost never happens in real life and everyone just uses it as an exploit to dupe the CPU into bad deals.

Considering just how few options there are in negotiating, at least there is some type of alternative negotiating possible. Also, there are a lot of stupid transfers that happen in real life (so it may not be an "exploit" to rip another club off, that's just real business in some respects)... and while they may not typically include player swaps, I'm sure they include first options on other players, or agreements to not bid on certain players, or all sorts of other terms that we'll never get out of FIFA.

Plus, the way the transfer market works in FIFA... if you trade to another team a player "worth" 10 million pounds, it's basically as good as money. They could easily sell that player for the player's "value" if they would transfer list him. (Assuming there is still time left on the contract and the player isn't 32+ years old). It's not really ripping off the CPU in terms of money.
 
In past games it has always been a way of offloading dirge that you don't want, and neither does the CPU but they take them, while getting a cheap discount on a worthwhile player. I always banned it in the old PES Master Leagues.

Even if it's equal monetary value, Real Madrid don't have a need that will be filled by Stewart Downing.

Of course I can just choose not to use it, as will be the case.
 
can injuries or fatigue occur from internationals...
the main killer for a more realistic experience, in my opinion is iterative fatigue decline. so fatigue in april is different than fatigue in Sept - giving over 30 matches played. seems like a simple formula, but zero experience with modelling out video game fatigue factors and implications on ratings...
 
Bugger, Hourihane is supposedly homesick and wants to return to Northern Ireland :(( Although it's only been reported by the press so far, he hasn't spoken to me personally.

Hopefully it's just some media bull, that'd be nice... and realistic ;)
 
I can't remember if I posted this already, but that MacDonald bloke who was on loan from Burnley; well his loan spell suddenly expired the other day.

This is good though because he was terrible :TU:

Edit: I think that was actually after the patch (hmm... interesting). Although Gorman is still here so nae cheese, basically.

I had this with diaby but unfortunately after two months of the press saying so he confirmed them and he had to be released:( don't know if you can get a situation where it's just the press making rumours but I think it will all happen like in past fifa's

I had that with Jermaine Johnson, despite spending the last 10 years playing in England he's homesick, so I give him his wish to be transfer listed, where he promptly moves to Exeter City, not sure it's that much closer to Jamaica than Sheffield? ;)

Didn't bother me as he's past it and wasn't even in the first team, annoying that the news items makes out it's unrest of Fabregas proportions or something even when it's someone not even remotely close to the first team, really undervalues the situation when one of your star players gets unhappy.
 
Just been sacked at the end of my first season with Liverpool.

Won the Capital One Cup, semis of the FA Cup, but finished 7th after drawing so many games that it's untrue (except it's very true, if you know what I mean :-P ).

I took the Villareal job where all I have to do is finish mid table so I'm hoping I'll be able to enjoy the matches more with less pressure.

Their squad is really interesting, lots of highly rated players but when analysing the components, a lot of high sixites/low seventies are going to be more useful.

Since you mentioned Exeter City, I was wondering if there is maybe an increase in difficulty for derby games?

I mean, last season Exeter City were one of my main title rivals and I hated, absolutely HATED playing against them. I could generally brush most opposition aside, but not Exeter... oh no.

They were promoted with me up to League 1 and I just scraped a 2-1 win against them (Blanchard also got sent off). I'm sure I'm experiencing a marked increase in difficulty whenever I play them :CONFUSE: They're local rivals, (not too vicious a rivalry as far as i'm aware), but yeah i'm sure the games are tougher against them :THINK:
 
They did some good stuff with the transfer market but two extremely key areas IMO are completely fucked up:

1. Free transfers, despite constantly seeing "is in the last year of his contract" not one single player lets their contract expire and become a free transfer all you get available on a free transfer is generated players and crappy internationals <69

2. Transfer listed players, for the last three seasons not one single player >72 has ever been transfer listed
 
Finally got around to starting a CM last night. I've already started a VP career with United, and was loaned out to Plymouth, but started to miss the manager aspects, so here I am.

Opted for Dortmund as I enjoyed using them in '12, plus I now have a little bit of knowledge on the squad. I'm going to try and avoid signing any big names if I can help it. There isn't a big transfer fund so shouldn't be too difficult!

First 2 friendly games are against Norwich & Sevilla, so planning to use them as a chance to look at the new players in the team, and also try out some of my signings. I decided that as Dortmund are in the CL I need 2 decent CBs to rotate with Subotic & Hummels, a couple of wingers, and a backup striker to help Lewandowski.

So far I have brought in the following (and just realised there's a slight Spanish influence!):
Juanfran, 23, £800k from Real Madrid. Young winger who can operate at RB.
Duelofeu, 18, £2.8m from Barca B. Super pacy LW.
Rafinha, 18, £2.4m from Barca B. Promising ST, who is a bit more mobile than my current backup STs.
Montoya, 22, loan from Barcelona. Cover for Piszczek at RB.
Varane, 19, loan from R.Madrid. Backup CB.
Ogbonna, 24, £7.5m from Torino. Heard good things on here, so hopefully he can rotate with Subotic.
Zieler, 23, £500k p/ex with Groskreutz £7m. Wanted a good young GK, and couldn't afford ter Stegen.

Have about 8 players up for loan. I'd prefer to sell them, but they recently joined so loan is the only option for now.
I currently have 3 strikers, but will wait until the next window before deciding if I need another. I'm sure Reus or Duelofeu can cover up front if needed.

I'll report back after the season has kicked off. I'm hoping Duelofeu is going to be the Buttner for FIFA13, although I'm fighting the urge to sign Bojic as he was a steal in 12 :)
 
Well my first international match was a surprising success!! At this point in the qualifiers Holland were level on points with my Belgium team but had better GD after 4 games. I was amazed that they were caught napping quite a bit in the 1st 17 mins as I went 1-0 up in the 5th minute through a Fellaini bullet in a crowded box then Holland were caught on the break as Witsel broke through the defence and passed it out of reach of Heitinga to find Mirallas on the left to slot it home. 2-0 17 minutes played Holland had only 34% possession and no shots at all.

We get near to half time Belgium still on the front foot Fellaini failed to hit his chip on the 29th min as the keeper got fingertips to it only for Pieters to prevent the corner. End of that attack...for now!!
Mirallas edges past both Heitinga and Douglas to free Witsel on the left to pass it past the GK 3-0 heading into half time.
Second Half
I changed tactics and decided to try to keep my special 1st half performance.
Back and forth in the start of the second half but still Holland could not find a way through.
Holland Substitution in the 65th Minute, Strootman goes on in place of De Jong. Still it stays 3-0 UNTIL.................................
Nifty footwork from Mirallas in the box!!!!!!
Through ball from Nainggolan to Mirallas who takes it, turns, with Douglas and Sneijder hunting him, Mirallas flicks the ball past Douglas who Outstretches his leg and Catches Mirallas BUT he stays on his feet to blast home Belgium's FORTH goal against the DUTCH!!! Moments before colliding with Heitinga and Van Der Wiel. Any hesitation and the moment would have been gone. Mirallas with his 2nd goal of the evening!!! Holland 0 Belgium 4.
Other then Emanuelson replacing Sneijder in the 85th minute thats how it stayed.

Shots - Holland 0 Belgium 11
On Target - Holland 0 Belgium 8
Poss - 50/50

Next Up Belgium at home v Switzerland

This match went alot different from the dutch game!!!
Belgium 6-1 Switzerland.
First half was v hard swizerland full on attack but i managed to scrape a 2-0 lead going into the 2nd half with goals from fellaini and Nainggolan.
2nd half perked up alot!!!
goals from fellaini, hazard and witsel for belguim and a last gasp consolation from frei for the swiss with a goal that bashed the crossbar into the goal then out again. Fellaini and Witsel missing opportunities for hat tricks when the defence closed around them. Mirallas didnt play as great as he did in the dutch game so he was replaced by lukaku who set up the 6th goal.

I think I gave Holland bad luck giving them their first defeat as they went on to lose 3-0 to portugal

So is it just me or they've removed the ability to choose penalty takers before a penalty shootout? Guess Fifa14 comes with "Total Virtual Penno control™"

I was thinking that too, but I thought i'd just skipped passed it by accident :THINK:

EA seem to do a lot of this, taking out things that are completely illogical to remove, but then adding cool things in so you don't care as much :CONFUSE:

I'm also on xbox by the way.
 
Update on my Blackburn Rovers CM:

I'm in mid November with my Blackburn side now and things have relatively improved since my last update. I now sit 3rd in the league after 18 games with a total of 33 points and a W-D-L record of 10-3-5. However, I have the weakest defence of anyone in the automatic and play off spots as I have leaked 23 already this season. On a better note my 'wonderkid' Edinho is still performing well with 10 goals in the league so far and 3rd in the top scorers.

However, I would argue that the best player for my team this year has been Jordi Gomez whom I signed from Wigan Athletic in the summer. Not only does he generally help to keep a grip on the game in terms of passing the ball quickly but he has also scored 8 goals (5th in top scorers) and has the most assists in the Championship with 7.

I believe the reason for my fortunes turning around since the last update is swapping to a flat 3-4-3 formation as since swapping to that I have only conceded 2 goals in the league and gained 4 consecutive victories propelling me from 7th to 3rd due to how tight the league is. The plan for the January transfer market is to bring in some youth. Players such as Givet and Pedersen are ageing and so I need to look at having a replacement ready and also just having promising players within the squad. Additionally, I only have Grant Hanley for cover at CB so another perhaps more experienced player is needed as well as solving my problem position of RM with either youth or high experience. With a budget of around £2,000,000 this should prove difficult.

Finally, I accepted my first international management job. I am now managing the Czech Republic and my first impressions of the squad is that is relatively good/solid with a few ageing talents i.e. Rosicky, Baros, Plasil. My first two fixtures in charge where 2 friendlies against Holland and unfortunately I lost both games 2-1, due to a late brace in the first game and a last minute winner from them in the second. On the upside, my team played very well and never looked overwhelmed and I'm sure I can get them into winning ways sooner rather than later.
 
Hi, seeing as I can't put my VP in Manager Mode, I created me and put me at Arsenal, then wanted to start a season.

I have chosen all squad options when starting a MM, but I can't find my new player?!

When I do a normal exhibition match, then he shows up, but not in MM?

Does anybody know what I am doing wrong? has anybody added a player successfully? What squad option did you choose when starting up your MM?
