Fifa 12 Career Mode Discussions

Good to know.

Playing as a 2nd division team, I'm going to heavily rely on developing my own youngsters this CM. Something I couldn't really afford to do as much playing with Atletico and challenging for the highest honours.

But with Dynamo Dresden, I'm extensively scouting and going to pick up many talented youngsters and start playing them as they are not far inferior to my first team players.

If I get promoted to Bundesliga in this first season though (which at the moment looks likely as I top the table quarter of a season gone), I won't be as able to do that though. So secretly, in a way, I hope I get out in 2nd season. :P

But at the moment, I look good and will try my best of course but considering only 2 get automatic promotion and 3rd has to play the 16th team in Bundesliga in a playoff, and 3 quarters of season still left, there's a long way to go still and we'll just have to wait and see what happens. :)

Just had an epic Champs league encounter in the first knock out stages against Man city. First Leg away I get a 1-1 draw and an important away goal.

Second leg at the Emirates, Van Persie is back for his first starting place since he has been injured for 3 months. I go 1-0 up with a Van persie strike, so 2-1 on aggregate.

Then Man City score to make it 1-1 and 2-2 on aggregate completely level. Soon after they score a second, which means I have to score 2 to win and I was really under the cosh.

I manage to pull it back to 3-3 on aggregate but obviously they are still going through and my players are getting tired.

It all looks futile until in the 88th minute Van Persie gets on the end of a Walcott cross and makes it 4-3 on Aggregate.

Was an epic game and one of the best I have had on Fifa 12.

I have moved upto World class this season and it has been a struggle. Currently 3rd behind Man City and Man united. United sit 6 points ahead with 11 games to go. Goal difference is about equal. I play United in two games time away from home though, so it is going to be difficult but a must win game.

I have found a bug though (I think it might have already been mentioned) but I wanted to sign to players from my youth team, but they kept saying they want a weekly higher wage, but still dream of playing for Arsenal so will await a further offer.

I keep offering they keep declining, for a laugh I put it upto 90,000 a week....they still didn't accept  big fuck up there, I hope it doesn't happen often, becuase it will ruin the CM game after next season, if I can't bring my hottest prospects into the club?

Okies :)

Out of curiosity, how many people force workrate themselves through the tactics and how many leave it as default to the player picked in that position for a more organic experience?

Also I was wondering if there's been much work done on custom leagues available for download? Would be nice to add the Turkey and Czech leagues back in as well as any more EU leagues available to add to the European competitions.

The latter, for me. I do a lot of tinkering with my Custom Formations but always leave the Work-rate at Default.

The bug you're referring to usually happens when you have a high current overall youth player who's been in your youth team for a year or more. He's not actually asking for more money, he's asking for four years and you can only offer him three. Luckily, the bug resets to three at the start of the next season. It's only a problem if you stop offering him a contract for several months when your board is warning you he wants to leave. If you do that he'll get lured away by another team out of your actual youth team.

Also I can confirm that youth players do grow while in the youth team. Had a guy increase three current points between 14 and 16.

I've been playing a team comprised of only my own youth players for about 5 seasons now. Best players at 71 or so. I've learned that Form/Morale/Winning has a huge impact on development. The difference between 1-2 increase per season and 3-4.

My biggest complaint is positions chosen for players that don't match their stats. You can get a great 65 overall LW with the stats of a target forward and he'll never be good as a winger. Or even worse the forward or winger or CM who is a born #10 with CAM stats. I know I can play them out of position but it's annoying and rules out loans and simming. They should allow multiple positions or allow the user to edit or add positions. We are their managers after all.

Well said. Good post.

@Placebo, 90% of the time, I leave 'work-rate' to what it should be as yes I do feel it brings out more 'individuality' and a more organic experience as you said. Having said that, I do tweak it sometimes like for example when both of my strikers have medium/medium work-rate and I'd like the pacier/poacher one who's gonna beat the offside trap to always stay forward and do as little defensive work as possible. In that case, I change his defending to low and attack to high. But the striker I usually play has that work-rate himself anyway, but for his backup, I change it at times.

So I do tweak it as I see fit and depending on the role I want the player to play against a given opposition but usually leave it as it is.

Thanks Savage for telling me about the bug, Im near to the end of the season, so hopefully the one I want stays so I can sign him next season.

I have signed a couple of players that are in the late 40's overall, what is the maximum points you have seen a player go up in a season? is there any point keeping these players? if they only go up by a couple of points a season, then it will take years for them to be any good! They had great potential when I signed them though.

I usually leave the work rates as they are, just to join in on the debate :))

Most I've seen a player go up has been +4 Bobby but I think they can go up to +5 as well.

And for that reason alone, I personally stay away from really low rated OVR players like in 40's or even low 50's because of what you said. They're crap as it is and it'll take them YEARS, IF they fulfill their potential to be decent. I go for guys who are at least 55 usually and never sign anyone below 52.

I've signed an English youth player aged 16 called Loach. He is currently rated at 48 but his scouting shows this potential range to be 85-94 so even though he'll take years to progress (being at 16 you wouldn't see him hit the 70-80 mark surely for another 4-6 seasons at least) he looks like he's gonna be a future international and potentially net me a huge sum of money, maybe £20/30 million or so if he fulfils his potential.

Is there any way to maximise his chances of reaching that potential given you can't sign coaches or set regimes etc?

Playing time really. That's about as much control as you have and it does seem that if he plays well, he grows better. So match ratings and performances have something to do with it as well.

I've been playing my 48 rating english guy in cup games and against lower league opposition and he has done quite well to be fair, I will keep him until the end of next season and see how it goes.

I've got two good striker both early 60's at the moment but like scoring. A Chinese guy Zhu and a Swedish fella Johannson I think his name is.

I have another swedish player with great potential hopefully ready to come into the full team, but he is tiny, but his potential is great.

Unless my squad is really empty I wouldn't sign anyone with a max projected current overall less than 53-60 (he might still end up mid 50s or so) if he's not put into the squad at 60 I put him for sale right away, takes too long to develop, I am 6 seasons in though and right now it seems pointless to look out for players to develop when I'll be starting again when the transfer window update hits :)

Don't know if this has been mentioned or been noticed before.

But a cool little detail - Just had Ken Ilsø (Bought him to Aalborg BK from Fortuna Düsseldorf) out injured in 3 months with torn knee ligament in his left knee.. He just came back from his injury and I subbed him in in the final of the Danish Cup and he wears a band to stabilise his knee.

THAT IS ATTENTION FOR DETAIL!

Not seen that before, PC or 360? I had Babacar out for 4 months with medial collateral ligament injury and brought him back early without seeing anything like that :(

The best I've had a player increase in one season is four but I'd don't doubt there's room for more as PLF said. Especially for a good young player integrated into a top team, like a 66/86 into barca.

As far as the low current/high potential youth players, I have to agree with PLF. Anyone in the 40s is definitely a waste of time. Low 50s is not worth it either unless their overall is low because they are assigned the wrong position. For instance, I had a 50 overall Italian CM who's stats were mostly CB with good passing, so a Busquets type DM. He's a 58 now after 2 seasons. Just look at their stats and if you see the kind of strengthgs ur looking for in the position they might surprise you. I had a 14 year old English CM with current of 54 who seemed like he should have been more like 65. He increased to 58 by 16 and increased to 62 his first year. His stats were exactly what you'd want in a CAM/CF but because the overall is judging him on a box-to-box midfielder scale he's abnormally low overall. But they are the exceptions to the rule.

For LTFC, if ur after money sign ten guys with 60+ current overall now instead of the one with potential. You'll have your £20 in two seasons instead of six. If its mostly a project to unearth the next Drogba then have fun and let me know how he progresses. I would like to hear about a 40-something that makes it to 85+.

I have begun playing it on PC, because the graphics are much smoother if you have a good Gaming-PC :)

He had a "bandage" to the left of his name in the Team Management screen. Don't know if it has anything to do with that, because he wasn't fully back yet. I suspect it for being in the recovery-period, they're wearing this :)

Did you play Babacar when he had the bandage next to his name? :)

It has to be done before you start a CM, basically you do this:

From the main menu go into club transfers (can't remember the exact menu names to get there but you can figure it out).

Select Arsenal, Sagna and Song are two I've seen move often in the first window but others like Van Persie you wouldn't want to move in the first window either, so select Sagna, transfer him out, quickest was is just press right trigger to switch to whichever league is next, French or such, and put him in the first team, his name still shows so just move him straight back again, do the same with the rest of the Arsenal players you want to "protect".

Then do the next team and on and on until you've "protected" all the players you need to.

Finally you need to go into team management and fix the lineups for the teams you've "protected" as the players you transferred out and back will be at the bottom of the squad list so need returning to the starting 11 (if applicable) and selecting as set piece takers/captain (if applicable)

Bit time consuming but shouldn't take more than say 15 mins per league

Thanks a lot for this, Placebo! Usually my friends and I play CM as players, and almost every time the best players would leave in the first transfer window, especially Jonas Gutierrez that whore... But I have one question for you sir, what happens in the january window? Will they be allowed to leave again as they are not "new signings" anymore?

Weird - It would be a weird feature to omit from one platform to another :s

I saw it once during my Madrid CM (on X360).
Marcelo had just been cleared to play after a 7 month knee injury, so used him as a sub for a few weeks. He definately had a knee support on, but only for 1 or 2 games, although he had the plaster next to his name for a bit longer.

Maybe it happens when they declare themselves fit to play? In my newer CM I leave returned players out for a couple of games to add a bit of realism (unless it's my VP;)))

I don't know how, but I jsut thrashed Barcelona 6-1 in the second leg at the Emirates of the champs league.

The first leg at the Nou camp was tense and they were 2-1 until the 87 minute when I jsut about got a crafty goal. They dominated me though and it probably should have been about 6-2 overall.

The second leg, I know I need one goal and then they need 2. so I play reserved trying to pass the ball around and not make silly mistakes. Especially because it seems whenever Messi gets the ball it is going to be a goal!

Then I just created goal after goal, Barcelona just didn't turn up! I scored this with Walcott aswell

http://www.ea.com/uk/football/videos/ugc/110973851

He has been shit all season aswell and scored this and another volley I didn't save.

Crazy game!

Now the final against Real Madrid.

My aim was to win the champs league this season, but because I was struglling on world class I thought it wasn't going to happen. So because I hadn't brought anyone in, I signed Ronaldo for 70mill in the Jan transfer to give me that extra in Champs league and he is doing well...he turned up against Barca for once :DD

I've seen the knee brace as well, quite a few times in my Forrest CM, Derbyshire and three other players all wore it after knee injuries :D

Sweet, maybe I'm just not being observant! I do play with Tele zoomed all the way out (and I tend not to risk my injured players as I have a big squad).

I've seen it even after they're injury is over (icon gone/stamina full), maybe the severity of the injury determines it. I've also played a player who recovered while his stamina was low (last 20 or 10 of a game to keep morale/form up) and seen it. And after shoulder injuries I have noticed healed players still rubbing/rotating their shoulder after a collision, little touches :D

Finished my 3rd season. My first season on World Class.

Found it tough mostly. Got knocked out of the League cup early on and struggle initially in the league and I never topped the league all season, although was easily in the top 4.

Had a good cup run in the FA cup and managed to retain that.

I bought Ronaldo in the Jan Transfer window as I knew I needed a boost and a player of real quality to help my team go far in the champs league, I sold Gervinho the season before, to let Wellington and Miyaichi rotate, but although they are very good, I needed somebody world class to take the team forward.

The Champs League I mentioned earlier with my epic two games against Man City, then Porto, Barcelona (as Mentioned) and then Real Madrid in the final.

The final was epic and I went 2-0 up with two Van Persie goals (He finished top scorer in the champs league), then Real stepped it up and scored two goals, to go into extra time and pens.

Scez was the hero with 3 pen saves and we won the champs league :DD

Straight after the semi final win over Barcelona I played Man City which I needed to win to stay in contention for the league (to be 1 point behind Man City with one game to play). I lost 4-0! So from the great high of beating Barcelona, I was brought back down to earth and the title was Citys.

I had lots of 3 month injuries throughout the season which let me play alot of youngsters. Because of this I am selling Vermaelen, Merts and Koscielny and sticking with Miquel, Bartley who are real Arsenal youngsters and then Nobel and Taylor, who are two English players that I scouted and doing very well. I will also be playing Jenkinson more than Sagna as Sagna is getting on a bit.

So my defence will be a bit more vulnerable, but hopefully they will all grow alot more because of it.

So my first team will be;

.............Scez...................
Jenkinson..Bartley....Miquel....Gibbs
.......Frimpong........Wiltshire.....
.............Fabregas...............
Walcott....................Ronaldo
.............My VP.................

My VP just about got top scorer in the league he is 74 overall and only went up 1 point this season :(( but was out for the last 3 months of the season aswell.

I might sell Ronaldo and Fabregas and use a really young team and see how I go....we will see.
