Fifa 12 Career Mode Discussions

Absolutely agree, and the thing I love about good passers, play a short pass well and they put the ball in front of the recipient so they don't lose stride, use a bad passer or make a bad pass and the ball will be to the player meaning they have to stop to receive it, or even behind the player and they have to move back to retrieve it.

Yeah that's definitely the biggest difference with previous FIFA games, you've hit the nail on the head there. Players better at passing will hit simple passes that seem to cause the attacking move to flow better, exactly for the reasons you stated.

As for transfer frequency in CM, I think all EA need to do is copy from Konami and introduce a transfer frequency setting before you start. That way everyone's happy!

There has to be a workaround for transfer frequency. Surely, moving a player to a different squad and then back to his original squad before starting Career Mode would help rectify the problem.

Yes it does. I just imagine that I'm one season further when I start my CM so those transfers seem more logical. It's not a big deal for me.

Playing on semi/assisted (i.e. not manual), correct? I've switched back to semi/assisted everything from manual because it actually seems harder, I was getting a bit sick of playing inch perfect passes with defenders or, conversely, massively over hitting it with Xavi. I'd like to see individuality better represented when using manual controls but I can't think of a good way of doing so!

Yeah I sent one my of scouted players out on loan and even though he hasn't played a match for his loan team (it's a Korean team so wouldn't show matches played anyways) his stats have improved all across the board.

i hope there is a simple answer, but i did not pay enough attention at seasons end...

when you end your campaign, do unused transfer funds carry over to the next season. so if i have 75MM£ kitty, and club ups me by £40MM again i have 115, no?

i am doing a lot of loan to buy situations. have cavani on loan to buy and have the cash to bring him end at seasons end. anyone else doing more of these transactions? a good way to bring the player into the club on a long try out.

Just started my 6th (or maybe 7th have to check) season, last season I finished 7th in the league but won: Charity Shield, Euro League, FA Cup, League Cup and Euro cup winners cup or whatever that one is called, sadly still only start with something like 18m/90kpw, good news is though I had good luck in the free transfer market, Poli an 81 CM of 26 years (valued at £13.5m) and Magauye Gueye a 76LM of 25 years of age (valued at £7.5m) will bring in a nice bit of money in the January window, although I may keep Gueye if he does well and shows some growth. Also signed a couple of other freebies for about £4m, there's some other squad level freebies available I may sign if I make room in my squad selling last season's freebie squad players :)

Sold 4 of last season's free transfers for a total of about £20m, strangely 3 of them were signed by Arsenal, odd...

Have a pretty strong squad so probably won't spend too much, considering a new fullback but sadly the two I want I can't sign as both of their teams annoyingly suffer from the bug where you can't buy them as there isn't enough cover in their positions on the teams :(

From what I (vaguely) remember from my CM, the funds carried over.

Yeah I do semi everything but for manual through balls, I think having a bit of assistance allows the game to take player stats into consideration, and while perhaps hindering someone used to full manual control, to me it seems more realistic this way.

Just had a game 2 days after another very early in my first season as 2nd division (2. Bundesliga) club Dyanmo Dresden.

So it is a problem. Weird too because there aren't even any other matches nearby. First match was after like 12 days and then suddenly then next one is 2 days after! And then another 6 days off until the next match.

Stupid bug but not a big deal.

Transfer deadline day is such a pain in the arse, not sure if people feel it works realistically but I find it so annoying, I wanted to sign three players on deadline day, first player was waiting to agree contract at the start of the 10 hours and the other two (right backs) were initially bid on from the 10 hour mark, the bids were never responded to until hour 6 at the absolute earliest, and a number of times even if I offered a fee that was agreed I still wouldn't get to contract agreed by the end of 10 hours, I know this is cheating but I kept loading my saved game from the 10 hour mark to try to get all the signings done in the 10 hours and could only ever manage 2 of them :( Fortunately I did manage to get a fair few squad players loaned out so that's one consolation, didn't manage to sell anyone though so I'm stuck with a squad of 42 with no room for any decent youth players who show up (unless I release someone of course).

not sure here. you may be right, but might be its that tricky to get deals done (in the real life). executing this all in one day could be the exception opposed to the norm. makes the desperation that much more palpable.

that being said, sounds like it could be a programming issue where response time is not "step-up" during the accelerated period. then you are completely righ

That's why you gotta get your business done nice and early like Fergie always says. :P

Nah I know what you mean though but in a way I find it realistic as well. There's the added incentive of not leaving everything for the final day. Usually by the time deadline day comes around, I have everything done and have the squad I want except maybe like one player who I'm trying to agree terms with last minute.

Deadline day for me is more about holding onto my players as clubs put in bids and sometimes great desperate bids for those you were never planning to sell and so then you suddenly have a dillemma on your hands in should I or shouldn't I ? especially considering it'll be hard to get a replacement that early and time can expire.

In other news, I just had 2 players who I put on the transferlist from first day the CM mode was started not get a SINGLE bid even on deadline day and so finish the summer window not being able to kick them outta club and get something for it. One I've now released anyway as he didn't have much market value but the other is a half decent 27 year old Brazilian striker called Cidimar with 800k value which is quite a lot for my poor 2nd division club so he'll have to warm up the bench until January where hopefully someone will put a bid in for him.

For me that was new as usually at least at latest by deadline day, I get offers for my transferlisted players and can get them out. This was the first time, a player and a decent one at that was listed for the entire period and never got a single proposal from any other club! Frustrating for me but realistic in its own way again. I guess you don't always get to get rid of EVERYONE you don't like and some stay longer...

I really enjoy reading these by the way, keep 'em coming. CM sounds superb this year, I hope PES steals some of the cracking ideas. ::

Simon Humber deserves a lot of credit for the work he's done in what is a relatively short space of time. He's definitely got a knack for getting the right things brought to the fore. And to think 13's when he'll be in stride...

True. Well done Mr. Humber and yeah I can't wait to see how he takes things to the 'next level' and move up a notch for FIFa13 now that we've FINALLY got a nice solid base to work from in FIFA 12's CM mode.

Yep couldn't agree more, happy to be proven wrong after I was doubting him so ;)

Apparently there's another guy who may or may not be the one responsible for scouting/youth/academy stuff (read on the EA forums he was) apparently he welcomes feedback on his twitter: @thisismunny

I sent:

grt job for 12 so far how about seeing academy for all other teams and being able to play some academy matches eg FA Youth Cup?

Yeah, he and Simon were both asking the GCs about CM both in the GC forum and in teleconferences after playtests at Guildford.

Does anyone have a better idea as to how good a youth player will be before you sign them? I guess it's just a case of scouting them for longer (which narrows down their potential) and taking the risk of other clubs nipping in and signing them from under your nose. The are currently too many youth players to sign at the moment, most have a potential range from 70 odd to 80 odd, which from a business point of view would be worth developing as a player ranked, say, 75, will still fetch a sizeable transfer fee if you chose to sell them. My problem is that my scouts are finding too many players with large potential, at least when initially scouting them.

When you sign them to your youth team, you usually get a good idea at how they will be after a few months of squad updates, sometimes players fall below what is expected and I let them go, others stay at a healthy potential and I keep them or sign them to the main sqaud eventually.

I don't think there is another way other than signing them and looking at them for a few months in the youth team?

So to answer your question, I don't think there is a way before you sign them. The better players will get snapped up if you wait to long.

had a really exciting Jan Deadline Day (season 2), though not much got done. After saying no to two previous bids, Blackburn came after Szescny for the tune of £28MM pounds. This was with three hours left. I quickly scouted for GK ont he transfer list and loan list and accepted the huge bid. after dreaming of where to spend the money, the window passed with no deal being done! I didnt want to sell him, it was just too much money!

Do youth prospects still grow if you sign them to your youth team? I don't remember them growing, if they did that would be nice, I've found some great potential in there but was always cockblocked by some random team snatching them away while I tried to narrow their ability down.
