FIFA 10 360/PS3 Demo Feedback + Videos

Funny how all the PES fanboys go on about player individuality.

Have you played PES demo all the players feel exactly the same.

not true mate, i thought the same before i started using the rb to do slow dribbling and tricks, the individuality is still there in PES. Also gerrard hammers shots whilst other players cannot. I think as with fifa you have to limit how you play the game. Dont hold down sprint, dont press all over the pitch, try and work the ball around, etc.. i think both games are going to be great, fifa for 2 v 2 with mates and 1 v 1 online, pes for playing against the cpu. Also im pleased fifa has more individuality, playing against a mate s a blast but playing against the CPU is HORRIBLE...

Bloody hell I'm confused.

Played the demo and thought meh when it first came out, but I'm really warming to it now.

I'm just getting use to pulling in both triggers and using it to take a defender on. It's a bit hit and miss TBH but that's more my skill than the game. I've also found adjusting the camera to my personal taste actually improves the pace of the ball, broadcast V2 with the camera zoomed out slightly and up a tad really gives a realistic experience.

I have the passing on semi because i cannot find the time needed to master manual, but it still feels free. i mentioned earlier that i cannot find how the passes have increased in pace, but having hit a few thumping crossfield balls i can see its got about an extra 10% of pace.

The heading lets it down, but if you time the defenders jump right you can get some distance and power.

The positional sense is very good, often too good for me as i would love to drop a through ball over the defenders head for a chance, but i can only seem to create a chance by intricate pass movements:CONFUSE:

Anyway, i've applied a bit more patience, with more passing from left to right and right to left, going back to go forward and its become quite joy.

I still hate (with a passion) the cut scenes, the way the camera snaps to the shit celebratation mode and the corners are a bit non descript.

I'd love to see some real power on headers from crosses, downward headers where they bounce up over the keeper are so rare, infact i have only scored one in all the FIFA's and they genearlly do not leap with any power and you get this standing jump that loops rather than drives into the net.

Nets are a bit average but this usually changes on the full game, graphics are not improved but i like the crowd reactions.

Penalties are nailed in this game and so is the overall footballing atmosphere, but it still lacks that something (IMO) that I cannot quite indentify.

Anyway I am slowly getting to grips with the potential depth and enjoyment of this game.

Oh dear... I think we need to cut out the PES stuff, I'm all for a laugh and a joke but it gets serious very quickly and I think we've got to try and get along.

I've took the piss in the past but this is a FIFA thread, it would be a bastard for it to go off like the PES thread has.

That's exactly how I feel. I'm enjoying both this and the PES demo, but the things I love about Fifa are the things I dislike about PES and vice versa, which is quite frustrating.

The silky smooth and free passing and shooting is definitely this game's strongest point for me. Even on semi-manual, which is what I always use, there is still plenty of scope to misplace passes and mess up shots.

You know what i mean (or am I just talking bollocks) I see a superb game reaching out trying to grab me by the knackers but its just not making me go wow.

I have been pleasently suprised the more i play it, so I suppose I need to continue with the patience and lack of sprint pressing.

Played some more of it and i still can't think off anything that is gripping me?

Maybe it's these points..

*Soulless
*Individuality
*Magic
*That feeling
*Lack of control

To me, maybe it is my frustration at not being able to play the game how it's at it's best and just play on assisted/semi everything while holding sprint most of the game, trying to make it similar to PES...Passing from dot to dot upfield and never backwards.

The game's not supposed to be played holding run that's what PES has done to us all and we need to stop doing it to play decent football

Also i want someone to explain this buzzword which is "souless", what the hell does that mean in terms of gaming

I still wanna know what this souless thing is

edit: I was replying to Chris btw who deleted his post, not double posting :)

One thing IMO the other game has right is celebrations.

I hate after scoring a peach on FIFA a split second later its you controllnig a celebration. Much rather have a second or two of Euphoria then the players actual celebration, in game or cut-scene, with maybea a couple of variances, and one for a last minute winner/equalizer, or getting the ball back for kick-off etc

So does anyone actually give a damn about these controlled celebrations? After scoring a goal, I want to relax and savour it, not run about like a dick, then do a robot by accident.

Accidental robot :D

I totally agree though, it's not something that was an issue for me till I heard a few mumblings about it and then after some extensive play of PES, I went back to Fifa for a game and it did bother me.

I don't think the cut-scene celebrations are particularly good either in Fifa, you score on one side of the pitch and then celebrate on another side without any sort of transition.

edit: The celebrations are pretty fun online though.

I like the celebrations and I would not want them removed and I miss them when I play PES. The celebration engine needs to be re-worked (to allow team celebrations, to pick up the ball, and to make them more realistic, euphoric, more variety etc).

But do I want them removed? Hell no. Re-worked, yes. All cutscenes must be gone! (and that you are having a problem with them, well, EA should allow you to turn them off, simple as that)

It would be nice to have at least a button that just automatically does that player's normal celebration routine.

That way you can make Anelka do his butterfly thing, or you can do cartwheels, whatever you prefer.

lol @ Urban, pathetic .

Agreed, I really like the PES celebrations, always have... The way they celebrate with the players around them in real time is great.
They are contextual in terms of the match situation - if you are 2-0 down and just scored for 2-1 with 10 mins left, your player would grab the ball and run back quickly, if you were 3-0 up and scored in the last minute your players would just jog back and not celebrate much, if you scored a last minute winner/equaliser you would get massive celebrations etc...

Also, there were LOADS of individual celebrations for different players, brilliant.

(Agreed with a negative point about FIFA and positive point about PES, take note PES fans from the PES section...)

completely agree 100%

What is also annoying in the demo is you cant change team mentality (attacking/defending) when the ball is out of play, only during the ball "in-play"

I posted this on PES demo thread. Is this fair?

There is so much ignorance, and pathetic defensiveness from people in this thread.

Dags has it spot on. Its a forum for people to discuss this sensibly, why should people have a one line sentence and leave it be, and not come back.

We are here due to our love of Pro Evo. Whether that was 5 years ago, or now, its irrelevant, everyones opinion deserves respect.

That said if anyone can honestly hand on heart think that what has been dished up in the past 2 years is anywhere close to the genius of the PS2 PES/WE games needs their eyes testing.

I wish it was. And the only reason it isnt is the game has gone from Simulation to Arcade IMO, and due to peoples fondness at the start of this century to the PS2 PES/WE games, they have a phenonemal amount of brand loyalty, because PES gave so many good experiences, and also consumed so much of peoples time. Lets be honest it was the ONLY football game to play 6 years ago.

What is inexcusable is how the E in PES for Evolution, has occurred in my opinion for the worse. I feel the game I once loved has regressed, whilst the competition (thanks to the recently arrived Peter Moore's perfectionist attitude) has improved dramatically. Imagine our old beloved PES with a similar improvement growth curve. We woudnt leave the house!!

I do not care which game is better, I'll buy the better football Sim, which first got me into PES, I care about a Japanese man, moving a once fantastic game in a direction, I find inexcusable, so it is now everything I used to admire in Fifa (graphics), and the gameplay has got worse, whilst FIFA's has IMO overtaken it.

How he has let this happen and regressed the series in 5 years only he knows.

If you lot like the demo fine. It just frustrates the hell out of me how such a once amazing football simulation is now like this. Lets be honest it isnt the PES that got us here all those years ago now is it? The "holy shit my imported Winnnig Eleven has finally arrived from Lik-Sang" game. The only game people bought a bloody x-port for so we could put option files on. The reason I bought a swap magic etc etc. I still remember in 2004 at unit me and my mates doing a Tournament with England and me scoring from 25 yards with Gerrard, with the ball going in off the bar, in the last minute to get us to the final! We still mention it

Now its just a game. And unfortunately not a very good one at that. Oh well, some of you like it. I just feel frustrated for all the reasons outlined.

Diehard PES fans know all of the above to be true and agree wholeheartedly with you. Don't listen to the fanboys- they have this idea that if they keep spending $50 year after year, they'll eventually get a good game. Doesn't matter to me though, neither PES or FIFA has produced the perfect game this year. I only pay for perfection.

The positional sense is very good, often too good for me as i would love to drop a through ball over the defenders head for a chance, but i can only seem to create a chance by intricate pass movements:CONFUSE:

This really bothers me because it was a tactic that would work with some rate of success in PES, but defenders always seem to be in the exact same place every time you try to play a long ball.

WE9LE was perfect yes! but it's outdated :(

fifa has the upperhand this year although I will buy pes for pc as I like playing it with patches(new leagues etc)

I think the celebration idea is brilliant but needs work, It adds to the individuality if they were to make "Signature" Celebrations for example in real time instead of having Lampard perform cartwheels he'd throw his arms pointing to the sky Kaka-esque.

Indeed, and possibly a "For Pat" message can pop up too.

Also I cant be the only one who has attempted a proper Cahill boxing the corner flag celebration and failed miserably ;)

The celebrations should definitely be like PES

There's are in context while Fifa's aint at all, in Fifa the cut scenes dont even match where you were standing when you left real time play and they even celebrate like you have scored a last minute winner when your 5-0 down
