FIFA 10 360/PS3 Demo Feedback + Videos

from last night, on fully manual and world class, one highlight from a night of missed opportunities! (seriously missed some glorious chances)
:::VID ABOVE:::

Genius Andy... Thats what manual is all about...

Also i've been slagging off the runs that the AI makes recently but watch Drog realise he should be in the box when Anelka gets that ball through.... nice

I still can't get used to the heading... i've tried everything - there was no real reason to change it from 09, the defensive and midfield headers were fine on 09 and you could get some nice flick ons from one of your strikers to the other... now it just bounces off their face in a random direction.
Headers at goal are better though.

i know what you mean, i was getting well annoyed at them at first, but i'm starting to get the hang of them now, i think the positioning and timing are alot more more important this year. this could be a good thing, cause if you master it you'll be unstoppable (height + stats obviously count aswell)

Yeah Oct 2nd cant come soon enough... Our club will be mint this year...Having played 2v1 on the demo last Friday i know how holding pressure will be the death of teams this year. I know the AI does it on single player/world class and gets away with it, but in our 2v1 games it meant LOTS of space elsewhere on the pitch...

Seriously, playing the PS3 version there's a whole difference between playing with my old non-rumble sixaxis pad and my new rumble dual shock or whatever it's called.

Subtelty in movements in this game is so important that a good pad with a good analogue can make the difference. I played again with m new pad and I was a beast dribbling, passing and shooting. Easier to change between the different paces (walk to run, to jog, to burst).

Really no one else has noticed this big difference between pads?

By the way, playing yesterday I had quite a lot of instances where my quality players in midfield (Xavi, Iniesta) were skinning the opponents with subtle moves only to find hard tackles. Am I the only one that jumps out of the sofa shouting at the opponent when my player does a flashy move and get slashed? Luckily for all of us, referees seem very strict and protect quality players. I really LOVE that.

Definitely positioning and timing are the key. Glad there's that depth in heading. I've managed to head in so many different ways... power headers, subtle ones, to the ground, to the sky...

I'm still failing miserably sometimes but I've found there's a lot of factors to be considered. For example, you won't score with power headers if your striker it's in position and the ball goes to him. You've got to cross earlier or better to put the ball ahead of him so he can "charge the neck".

About positioning, you simply move your player though it's hard sometimes and the fact the AI sometimes does the usual cheats doesn't help much to improve, but playing against another human is in another league.

I had that yesterday! The AI does not like being made to look like a fool!

Have you found the style of play you were after with Xavi & Iniesta? As I've said, last night those two were all up in Bayern's faces. It was superb.

As I say, i've tried everything... Timing it late, early, when the player should jump and even with a taller player in the perfect position, they still can't header the ball properly nearly every time.

Heading isn't that much of an art in real life that it needs to be ultra precise in the game...

Naah I disagree with that completely TBH, heading in 09 was just wayyyyy too easy, jostle for position then hold down the button and win your header 99/100, no skill or risk to it at all, now you have to time it almost perfectly to get your jump right and that's how it should be IMO :)

I did that last night

What do you all have player switching set to?

I have it on full manual but the cpu is able to move his player at least a second earlier because it takes me time to switch to the right player, putting them at an advantage. It takes the piss.

Yes, I have it on one notch too - it's the best setting I find. It's absolutely retarded otherwise as there is no automation.

One notch. I tried fully manual switching last night- it was awful. By the time you've switched their striker has headed the cross in.

1 notch for me too. Didn't like full manual switching at all.

Why is it the CPU can be touch tight to my attackers ALL the time, yet my defenders leave them so much space? Why is it also that the cpu can control every single ball perfectly? And why do they appear to have so much more strength no matter what player I am? Everything feels really biased at times, I just don't understand it? And why does the wingback ALWAYS stay furthest behind all other defenders playing any stray attackers ONSIDE (Just like 09)

I said that from the very first moment. The game is incredibly rich and everything is well done except positional play and AI. The worst of it is that while poor CPU AI doesn't count much on Human vs. Human, positional play does. It's awful dominating your opponent knowing that the moment they recover the ball (mostly after a crossing or a missed chance) they can automatically do a short pass straight to the striker who is always unmarked in the midfield line.

Yes, I can do wicked things with them, but sometimes get fustrated by the strength>skill in wolrd class so I play in professional to enjoy building play. Besides, the weak positional play of the game also makes the same set-ups to repeat too much. I'd love my players to have more free will in attack and swap positions, switch between being further down the pitch or up, doubling a player...

I ask a lot, I know, but AT LEAST have my defenders or MARKING the opponents while I attack so they can't instantly start the counter easily. Chris, could you tell this to some EA reps? I'd be glad if you can.

I'm glad I have a modded 360; I'd probably kill someone at EA if I had to deal with paying $50 for a buggy-ass game.

I wonder how great FIFA could be if they just got these SIMPLE tactical errors sorted. It's like people say, Rutter's blind or he just doesn't watch football.

These were my biggest gripes in FIFA 09 and it seems most of them are still in. No doubt the game is going to be incredible controlling just one player for VP or clubs...but I want to be able to play 1v1 or 2v2, or a manager mode, or a cup, without the same annoyances that were in FIFA 09. It's like they've tweaked the fundementals of football, ie control, passing, shooting, crossing, etc. Things a footballer can do. But they have neglected the other side of the game, the things that don't happen in real life like player switching and a biased CPU to play against. I just want it to feel fair when I play a game against the computer, which I know is obviously hard to replicate.

Don't get me wrong I am going to fully enjoy controlling one player. I just wish they made controlling a team a bit more fluid.
