FIFA 10 360/PS3 Demo Feedback + Videos

hahaha sounds very funny.
I don't know if any of you guys also noticed this but on 09 if you were to press the pause button the commentators would just cut their sentences but here they just finish it even if you wanna replays and such. It's something minor but I like it

Wonder if anyone else has seen this.

Was in goal with Buffon against a Frank Lampard penalty. He shot right, i dived right and saved with both hands and pushed it against the post, and off the pitch.

The result - 1-0 to Chelsea. I hope this is a bug that is fixed before the final release.

Yeah has happened to some people, even a bunch of youtube videos on it I think. Keeper pushing the ball through the net close to the post.

Yeah I noticed this as well and was really happy about it, sometimes you start a match and realise you wanted to swap someone's position or hadn't changed set piece takes or whatever and I always like to hear the commentary as it helps set the atmosphere :)

Got it downloaded and have to report as follows

Positives

+ Genreral refinement from 09, just feels smoother in general from menus and presentation down to the actual game.

+ Animations!!!! they are awesome, the ref telling me to calm down without a cutscene, my player after being fouled pointing to an injury to the ref, the cards without cutscene, the fact that now when im able to take a throw in the teams havent magically reset themselves.

+Likenesses and Graphics - Just beautiful a big step from 09.

+ The ball physics, I get the sheer excitement when it starts pinging around the box at 100 mph, it's just superb now.

+ It's improved nearly every major gripe of mine from 09. Cant wait till the full finished version is in my ps3.

Negatives

- The keepers, but this is obviously due to the error with stats
- Card happy refs - love the new animations but christ they like a booking.

So all in all no real major annoyances yet, beautiful game. Cant wait till release.

Regarding the referee's and them dishing out cards like it was Christmas, I have to admit I've only been booked twice in about 9 games, and I've gone in with some pretty wreckless tackles at times. The advantage rule has definitely been tweaked to create a much better fluidity. No longer will play be pulled back when you're through on goal. I was also played through as Messi by Xavi and the defender made a final lunge at me which clipped Messi's leg, bringing him down but he got right back to his feet in one motion and continued his run through for 1 on 1. I missed, but even so...

I really don't get the argument about animations when it comes to fifa vs. pes. Well actually I do.

Watching the videos from this demo (I will download it myself later today), the animations in FIFA 10 are pretty much the same as FIFA 09 in the way they work.

While it's obvious that FIFA's animations are smooth, detailed and realistic, the have a major downfall which some people are apparently oblivious to.

This is the fact that the right animation is rarely triggered in the right context. On their own, the individual animations are amazing. But players do the wrong animation at the wrong time. This is where the animations in PES trump FIFA. They don't look nearly as smooth and realistic, but contextually they're way closer to what a player would do in real life.

To give you an exampler, you take a different kind of shot (different body shape, different technique, different timing) depending on how far you are from the goal. This principle can be applied to every aspect of what a player does on the pitch, and is something FIFA still apparently can't grasp.

You have nailed that for me. Totally agree. But I dont want to piss on peoples parade so I will leave it at that. I played the demo last night for a good hour. I think it's much better than 09. But it's still not my bag. It is nice to see people loving it though.

I love a cup of tea, but I just cant drink Coffee. Thats it.

Im dissapointed with the speed of the demo. At the Emirates we played, at the time, a 6 week old code which was much slower paced and was in mine, and most that were there, opinion.....perfect. Then we played the demo code which everyone now has access to and i said at the time it was much faster. It was suggested that it was because it was being screened on jumbo sized tv ......guess i was proved, sorry to say, ....right! Yes i have it on slow. Heavens knows what it is like on normal and fast.
At the Emirates i played many games where i was able to use midfield maestro's, Cesc for one, to control the game and dictate the play. Now with this ultra fast paced demo its just like 09, no time on the ball.......I'm really gutted! I hope it gets sorted for release

What is the L1 manual player switching like, has the CPU stopped cheating now?

Does it change the cursor to the obvious player (the player closest to the ball)? Or does it still insist on changing the cursor to a player that it miles away thus bringing him out of position and leaving a massive hole in the defence for example.

Just had a session of ten games with a friend and the more I play the game, the more I love it. There will come a point where I feel like there's some glitches in there that make the game too frustrating I'm sure; no game is perfect and I'm dreading reaching that point. However, as of right now, it just feels so right.

(Positives)

We played a ton of different matches and different things kept happening. I like playing as Chicago Fire because I hate playing as teams like Barcelona with all of their five-star players and silky skills. I played against Chelsea twice and got beat 3-0 twice, without feeling frustrated. It felt exactly like it would in reality. They were too fast, too skilful and Anelka is just a pain in the arse to defend against!

Playing as a team like Bayern, defensively you're always a bit panicky, but in attack guys like Schweinsteiger are so strong and you feel like you can take on the world with them (without it feeling like it's too much, like a glitch). Playing against Marseille I managed a 2-0 win followed by a 2-2 draw. There was a great own goal - the ball came across and there was a goalkeeper, defender and opposition striker in the mix. The defender stuck his toe out to knock the ball away from the striker but it was tapped into the net. It looked so real, like a real defensive mix-up.

Through the rest of the game I experimented with different things and just had an absolute blast against a friend. I'm finding skilled dribbling really hard to do, to the point where I'm running into players FIFA 09 style, but I think I'll get used to it. Some of the shots you can hit are sublime, and the same with the crosses. I love hitting a curled cross and a hard low screamer!

Which reminds me, the people who are complaining that there are too many "goals of the season" being scored... Well, this is my opinion; every week when I watch Match of the Day, I see at least one, if not two, stunning goals. The teams in this demo are five-star teams. The recipe is there for that to happen.

I'm not scoring a wonder goal every game. I'm scoring it at just the right ratio for a single five-star team (when you watch Match of the Day and you see a wonder goal, it's not always for the same team obviously, so they won't be scoring a wonder goal every game - but every few games seems right to me).

All of the videos of superb strikes are coming out at once because the demo is out now and with the teams/players in the demo, it's going to happen. Not every goal is like the goals you'll see on YouTube. But without wonder goals the game would be flat, and it would be nothing like real life when you're using these kinds of teams - so I think the balance is perfect. But that's just my opinion.

I do have complaints though, I should say.

(Negatives)

First of all, I'm not happy with the amount of bugs and glitches appearing IN THIS THREAD. I would imagine only one or two will be fixed and that's quite disappointing. I can live with them, for now, but knowing they're there is frustrating. Even the smaller ones, like the referee blowing the whistle for throw-ins, are annoying.

Secondly, I think it's way too fast on the normal speed setting, but on the slow speed setting you lose a little bit of responsiveness. So I can't decide whether to allow the game to be too fast or whether to slow it down and get less of a headache looking at the screen.

Finally, and this is the big one... Goalkeeping. The majority of it is great I think, with shots going in that leave the keepers watching the ball go into the net. I love that, but, there are definite issues. Yes there's a bug in the demo where keepers like Cech have a 1 out of 99 positioning rating, but playing with a keeper where the bug isn't there (as Bayern/Marseille), you still see crosses and shots going into the net that shouldn't.

All of the goals bar one that I've scored today have been fine, but last night one goal was like this - the goalkeeper stood still for a ball heading straight at him (towards the underside of the crossbar), put his hands up, and the ball went straight through his hands like they weren't there.

A keeper would get beat by a cross occasionally, yes - AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THAT! But in an instance where he's standing on the goal-line, he shouldn't just let them in.

But, all that said, none of this has overshadowed the game for me so far - a game that will be the best football game I've ever played judging by this demo.

Good analysis, Chris.

I really must play this on Slow to see what the fuss is about, as I usually just leave it on normal speed and get on with it.
I'm also avoiding the thread you've linked to detailing the bugs and glitches, as if I find out something is there, I'll constantly be wary of it and it will do my pan in. Better to just be unaware of them and perhaps find them for myself. Or not...

Mike on the EA forums basically said its going to be the same in the final version.. He said 1% played on fast and 1% played on slow last year... 98% left it on normal.

He decided that meant people loved the speed of 09.

Stupid way of thinking if you ask me... There is no doubt in my mind the game benefits from being played slower...

What I love about this is how in the glory days of PES I used to always try and score special goals via reverse chipped through-balls, first time volleys, neat one-two's, cheeky dinks etc

For the first time in years and for the first time, next-gen you can truly do it this time. Very organic, cant wait to get on it tonight

That Mike guy really loves his statistics, problem is that he can't analyse it correctly. Put the default speed to slow and you would still have 98% playing the default speed...

Gab I'm pretty sure their stats don't say someone is playing on a "default" speed because then every single person would play on the default speed wouldn't they? They'd set it to what they prefer and never change it, if they did it would be 0.1% of the time not 1% of the time.

They see the speed people are playing in terms of slow, normal or fast. Not default or changed pre-game only.

I wonder how many people were aware that you could change the speed anyway?

Not many people knew they were using assisted controls either.

I love manual shooting, wow.Without being too unrealistic, I feel like I can aim where I want and with some shit players there are some equally shit shots

People wont change it because they either dont know its there as an option or dont want to change it because it wont be like that online.

I think normal can be classed as default. When you get the game its set to Normal.

What i'm trying to say is.. If when you get Fifa 10, the game was set to slow the stats would say 98% of people played slow....

Something will need to be done about the radar as right now it's impossible to see anything. Can't even separate colors

My point is that people never bother to change stuff like this. Like I said if normal was much slower people would still use that because it is the default setting. It doesn't mean most people would prefer the speed at normal to the one at slow, and that is what Mike seems to think.

Oh sorry, I see what you mean, yeah you're right. Most people don't change the settings, they just pick up the game and play it as it is.

A thread that half of us from here can't contribute to because we were banned from the FSB forums by Adam.
Any bugs/glitches I see in here I will copy and paste in there, don't worry. ;)

Some great goals being scored. Love it!

Having some real success with holding up on the left stick when powering up corners. Puts in a really good cross. Was curling them in before but this seems more effective. Espeically with defenders going on, John Terry just powered one in for me.
