FIFA 10 360/PS3 Demo Feedback + Videos

Don't know about anyone else, but this always happens to me when I play a new footy game/demo:

Stage 1: The first few games I play it I think "WOW this is great"

Stage 2: After another 10 0r 20 games I spend so much time trying to master all the new moves etc that I noticed in the first few games that I start getting frustrated when I can't do them again and I'm thinking "fuck I'm not sure this is as good as I thought it was".

Stage 3: Then I revert back to just playing football instead of focusing on taking on men and skill moves etc and I start to see these little gems that I saw to begin with cropping up again and again as I play and moves start coming together like I want them to and I'm back to thinking "Yes man!, this is awesome"

This was always the case with the older PES games too, it's like DeJa Vu

I was starting to get frustrated trying all this "Skilled Dribbling" etc but now I'm at stage 3 and starting to really enjoy it again :))

ok ok, I was round here yesterday and finally got a chance to play last night so here are my opinions...

firstly let it be known that for years I hated the FIFA franchise, I am PES through and through since the old days and can proudly say I have played every PES and Winning Eleven ever made...on every console...

FIFA 10, even in demo form is spectacular...me and my mate )both PES heads) loved it, in fact, last night was the first time ever we didn't play PES...

everything about it is brilliant, totally immense experience.

Still a tad floaty in places...but all in all enough great touches to convince me to buy my first FIFA game since...1999

FACT

I have decided to get FIFA for the one player leagues etc and online, but I still think PES's gameplay will shine through this year, but as I said to my mate, how many times will we accept just minor changes to the gameplay when FIFA makes leaps and bounds every single year

hats off to EA this year, every title had been an improvement, Madden 2010 especially

I really don't get the argument about animations when it comes to fifa vs. pes. Well actually I do.

Watching the videos from this demo (I will download it myself later today), the animations in FIFA 10 are pretty much the same as FIFA 09 in the way they work.

While it's obvious that FIFA's animations are smooth, detailed and realistic, the have a major downfall which some people are apparently oblivious to.

This is the fact that the right animation is rarely triggered in the right context. On their own, the individual animations are amazing. But players do the wrong animation at the wrong time. This is where the animations in PES trump FIFA. They don't look nearly as smooth and realistic, but contextually they're way closer to what a player would do in real life.

To give you an exampler, you take a different kind of shot (different body shape, different technique, different timing) depending on how far you are from the goal. This principle can be applied to every aspect of what a player does on the pitch, and is something FIFA still apparently can't grasp.

nice move, not sure why they have changed skill dribble to both triggers? Sounds like it may be clumsy to use..:CONFUSE:

They haven't.

Or maybe I don't understand you. Skilled dribble is like in FIFA 08. Skill tricks with the skill stick is the same as always.

LT & RT is the Skilled Dribbling.

LT and right stick is the trick stick.

Two seperate functions :)

Yeah skilled dribbling isn't really as fancy as it sounds. It's about being able to quickly move to the sides. You're not really supposed to hold it down for long. Press it down when close to a defender, do quick feet movement and let go basically.

I can safely say there is no more magic AI who know exactly where you are going to go with trick stick...if you get near a corner or something, try slow dribbling or skilled dribbling...the defender will square up to you. Try doing a step over then drag it past him. You'll smile :)

And watch the defender fall over his own feet while you hold down the sprint button and ZOOOOM passed him

Anyone worked out how to upload slow motion replays? I don't see the option for it in the demo.

Also it is possible to change the height of the Tele cam? Again, can't seem to be able to do it in the demo

Looks like it's been removed, don't know if it's just because it's a demo or because it causes problems with the uploads (making them take up too much space because the slower it is the longer it lasts, which obviously makes the file-size bigger). With so many people downloading the demo perhaps they're looking to cut down the amount of space all the replay uploads will be eating up.

Interesting one...

You should get out more!

1) I think Chris Davies said you click in the left stick and it changes to slow motion?

2) Change your camera to custom and you can change your tele cam settings that way. I've got mine as Tele but zoomed right out.

Didn't Chris mention you click down on the stick to go into slowmo mode?

You can change the zoom and the height of all cameras I believe (only tried tele as it's the only one I use), change its setting from default to custom then you can change the sliders.

Were impressions of the 09 demo this positive?

They were and it was the same with 08. My worry is that after a couple of months I will have seen all the new animations and little touches and the same old complaints will rise to the surface again.

As good as Fifa 10 is it still lacks a bit of personality. I can't get past the feeling of being a spectator on tv rather than being deeply involved in the game. That's always been my problem with Fifa and I still feel that way after playing this demo.

Dags/Placebo, you can't do it in the demo.

I was giving the same controls as FIFA 09 but for some reason slow motion is disabled in the demo. Or if it isn't then they've hidden it because I can't find it anywhere.

What do you think needs to change to give it the personality? Interesting way you've described the demo there

I feel left out.
I enjoyed the demo yesterday but today I just can't be arsed with it. There's nothing there now to keep my interest. Now I've started to notice how you can use that Messi break forward sprint run thing to get past everyone easily time after time I'm finding more and more spots where the same exact thing happens and I score.

What config do you use?

I suppose it's refreshing to hear people that are finding things different and not quite as how the expected, with a few negative comments added to the mix. It's obvious problems will be picked up, no matter how trivial. What's nice to see is how many positive comments have been made about the demo. I think we can safely put the goalkeeping issues down to bad coding (especially on the part of Cech and Buffon), so that should and no doubt will be rectified for final release. It was also pleasing to hear that the demo version is at least 3 builds behind the final release, so other little niggles will have been found and sorted, too.

It's certainly a better game of football than Fifa 09, and on that basis alone it's the greatest football game around. PES will have to go some way in bettering EA's effort, yet again.

FIFA 08 had a lot of sceptics due to the response times, I hated the response times in 08. People here associate me with moaning and I'd say 70% of that was due to the response times in 08 making me throw my toys out of the pram

It's difficult to put my finger on it. Player individuality may be a part of the problem but it's not just that. When I play the 'rival' game I feel connected to the players and the weight of the ball and I feel more involved. I don't know why, but Ffa10 still lacks a bit of emotion and all the other clichés that are associated with the other game.

After hammering the demo yesterday I just can't be bothered with it today.
