Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Hopefully the gameplay will be pretty good in 09 so they can focus a bit more on MM and the BAP season, allowing you to play from youngster to retirement. I haven't read much about "Be a Legend" in PES, but the few lines I've read it sounds better. If it is good I hope FIFA totally rip it off.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

I made it very clear to him and the other developers that the members of our community play a lot of MM and against the CPU and he does know that MM needs to be updated. They want to do this next year. Also try to remember this is his first year on the game.

And then next year when he's replaced with a different producer it's the same old excuse......

Manager mode in Fifa08 was buggy, flawed, shallow, limited, but those of us who like playing that mode put up with it in the false belief we would see improvements in 09, hell I had an EA producer tell me at GCA it would be improved in 09 because 08 needed so much graphics work doing that's where the budget went, and now we're told you have to wait until 10, stinks, really stinks, I'm completely disillusioned right now.......

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

He probaly mean they could not rewrite completely, i am sure they fixed a few bugs plus now u have team tactics that should make each game feel different.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

If they'd fixed some bugs they would have used some PR speak to say that and make it sound like a big deal, the way they use PR speak for everything else, big or small. The new tactics system is useless when the AI substitutes a CB for a left winger, or plays Crouch at CB, or has 90% fatigue yet runs around for 90 minutes full speed.

To say they don't know how to figure out the fatigue issue shocking, absolutely shocking, all they need to do is calculate some simple logic to rotate the squads, not difficult at all, if they gave a shit, which obviously they don't.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Sucks about the manager mode. People don't play AI because its shit, but imagine if it was great.....
i would still prefer to play with real people. beating someone u know is always alot fun then beating the AI no matter how great the AI is, it will never replace real human responses.there is more satisfaction beating Tim7 or even placebo then there is beating manu on pro difficulty:LOL:

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

15 new generic stadiums ? i take it in saying that it includes fifa 08 real stadiums. :CONF:

First i thought that but i am now totally confused what happened to proper stadiums if thats case. :/

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

As the previews have already said, some of the supposed 250 are so minor they're not even worth mentioning.

Sounds as if the game is great, an improvement on last year's already decent game (a first for EA for what: 8 years?). Weren't you the one having multiple orgasms about Fifa 08 last year?

Jesus. Some people are never happy.

Multiple orgasms? Are you 12?

I liked the game last year yes, I still like the game, I enjoyed manager mode last year, I still enjoy manager mode, manager mode was deeply flawed, buggy, limited, I looked forward to the manager mode improvements we were supposed to be getting with Fifa09, I'm now disappointed to find out that the mode I enjoy playing has been left in the same state it was in a year ago, why the fuck does this somehow equate to "some people are never happy"? Last years manager mode was adequate, it should have been better, it wasn't, we who like manager mode lived with it, we're now finding out that we're supposed to live with the same crap for another year, that's irksome, if you have a problem with me being irked then go fuck yourself.

Manager mode. Fifa08 played a decent game of football, manager mode was a flawed experience that could be enjoyed if necessity dictated. As I prefer manager mode over online modes that necessitated it, and I enjoyed it, but was frustrated with the half assed implementation.

ahh i see cool fair enough. for me gameplay comes first and imo teh gameplay in fifa 08 was not that great :( too many flaws for my liking so im glad they fixed those.

i admit manager mode is kind of shit. played one season and diddnt enjoy it. proper pants. maybe thats another reason why i stay away from those sorts of game modes on a sports games. they never implement a proper deep season mode. top spin 3 is a prime example of that. crap career mode. thank god for that xp glitch:LOL:

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

hey at least Mr Rutter isnt making excuses for not updating certain things unlike Mr Seabass does with Pro Evo. He is giving us a reason why the Manager Mode cant be done this year. Fifa 09 is sounding fantastic. I like the nice touch of injured players laying at the sidelines recieving treatment until the ref waves them back on. And the fact that we have refs and linesmen. All little additions that add up to a great realistic game.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Yes the gameplay additions do sound good, and perhaps once I've got the game I will still enjoy manager mode again despite the fact it has seen no improvements, but when you care about a mode, when you've played 17,000 minutes on a mode, you tend to get a little bit frustrated to find out that your opinion as a paying consumer is worth shit. I'm sure I'll get over it, right now I'm happy that this year I'll be getting the game for free rather than paying for it myself like I did last year :)

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

You're probably wondering/not caring who I am but I'm around most days, and have been for many years and the news we're hearing on Manager Mode is as gaulling to me as it is to Placebo.

I don't play online too much as [a] it's difficult to guarantee a decent game against a decent person at the time that I want to play and I prefer the career element of MM.

Therefore, I'm just gutted that we're going to have to continue to have stupid substitutions, night games during the day, multiple fixture pile ups etc when some of these things would be so easy to sort out.

Clearly, EA are focusing all their energies on on-line play as that's where the money is. They don't give a toss about people who actually want to follow a season through year on year against the CPU.

I'll still get the game but can't get half as excited now, knowing that the main element of the game for me is the same as last year.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

For me manager mode is an extension of supporting the real life team I support, I want to take control of my team, build them up to be better, win trophies with them, get promoted with them, etc. etc. The un/for-tunate thing about who I support means that succeeding with them in manager mode is extremely enjoyable as it counteracts the extreme pain of supporting them in real life ;)

I couldn't get into the manager mode in '08 due to the things mentioned by others - just getting on my nerves too much.

I was hoping for things to change - so I can start playing manager mode again. So I am dissapointed too.

I don't think it would have taken to long to iron out some small things in manager mode - that would have made a big difference.

Of course I am still excited about the game and I usually play online - so I'm not that dissapointed - but it is a shame.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

I would love Manager Mode if:
Different teams played better/worse than each other and had different styles - at the moment an away match against United is as easy as a home match against Accrington.
The AI acted more realistically - No constant perfect defensive lines, perfect passes and brilliant turns and they should try and create proper goalscoring opportunities rather than always scoring headers.
Players varied a lot - In FIFA 08, there are only fast, strong, slow and weak players, other attributes don't mean much at all. You should be shitting yourself when you come up against the likes of Ronaldo, Rooney, Berbatov, Torres, Gerrard, Drogba etc. as you know that they are going to be almost unstoppable if they are on form. The lack of variation in players in FIFA 08 means that signing players is quite pointless, as they are almost no better than what you already have.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

One thing that really bothers me about the BAP season mode is that you get things every match that you should fulfil to make your manager happy (from what I've understand). Well if anyone here has played the BAP Coop season mode on current gen you know how gay it is and I really really hope that the objectives isn't like that. Because they were like "have 3 shoots on goal", "don't be caught offside", "make 3 tackles" and so on.

The more I think of it this is probably how it will be more or less. I mean it's so fucking unrealistic if you have an objective that is "have three shots on goal", what fucking manager would tell their player that? If they do something like this I really hope I can stand PES 2009 and play BAL instead. Probably can't because I can't imagine going back playing non manual controls.

Edit: Not only that, but the league your playing in the current gen BAP season is not a realistic league with stats and so on. It's only a series of matches with a leagues teams. And really, this would explain why it's only four seasons. Because no one would like to play longer than this if this mode is an extension of the current gen mode. It's probably not this bad in 09 but you never know with EA.

hold on now, they keep saying they have improved the AI of the cpu. So how is that not an improvement of MM? I hated MM cause the AI was shit, the other things like day games, and other stupid glitches did not annoy me as much as the core gameplay, which they have fixed(supposedley). So to say they have done nothing to MM is misleading... I think the core gameplay is the most importnat aspect of any game, but i am miffed why they cant get the simulation aspects of MM correct, that is very dissapointing

from what im reading, this could be possible in 09, i agree about the players in 08, not very organic

Not only that, but playing a human player with any team feels pointless since all players almost feel the same. Using Milan feels the same as using Villarreal, so I have no motivation to use different teams. At least in PES using Porto had its benefits compared to using a team like Everton.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

oooo this sounds awesome, roll on the demo!!!!!

fair play to them for working on gameplay rather than the lacklustre and hardly used manager mode ;))

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Wow, that short preview sounds awesome. If only they would tweak the net animations ;-)
It's great to hear that they are focusing on gameplay. This is where the real meat is. Gameplay, gameplay, gameplay...

That reminds me, I've got to reserve my copy at lunch time today. 360 version that is.

Roooooooooooooooooooll on Demo!

Roooooooooooooooooooll on Fifa09!

i rather have manager mode online againts real opponents. thats my dream

i agree, somewhat... sometimes in fifa if your on point, you can force the play thru certain players, thus lending some realisim... i.e. if im espanyol i would always work thru the little buddha...

AI = gameplay.
Manager mode = manager mode.

Improving AI is no more an improvement to manager mode than introducing rain is an improvement to manager mode. Yes it's great that gameplay/aesthetics are improved, but improving core gameplay is not a manager mode improvement as far as I'm concerned and to say that it's "misleading" to say they've done nothing to manager mode is completely false.
