Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Goalkeepers can get sent off and Injured now as well :))

Ditto, hadn't heard that either?

If it's true I hope it doesn't mean we're forced to name a keeper on the bench, we should be able to gamble and have to put an outfield player in goal if our keeper is sent off/injured.

Ditto, ditto... Can the keepers get injured and sent off?

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Hopefully they do something about the ball physics.. ball still seems floaty

That Podcast said it. The bar is the middle of the O when they mention it.

And they say they give away Penaltys

This is what they said
"Alot of questions about Goalkeepers, can he be sent off? yes he can. Can he be injured? Yes he can.

Then they talk about weather and finish with

"The goalkeeper can give away penalty's yeah"

On another note after watching them videos im not liking the collisions at all

Nearly every tackle that's made makes a player fall over, now in real life players fall over from slides tackles but not standing tackles. Watch the videos and watch how frequently players fall over from standing tackles.

Im not liking that at all

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Didn't notice many players fall from standing tackles. It was either sliding tackles or shoulder collisions from what I remember.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Listening to the podcast and they made it sounds like you can use sliders for a single player on the pitch. That's not in is it? I think Adam misunderstood it and Suff didn't get that. I would love to be able to tell individual persons how to play but I have never heard Rutter talk about it.

Edit: Weird hering Suff talk so well about FIFA 09, it's like nothing is wrong with it. I hope he's being honest and not just want to please EA... but I guess the first impression will always be great, I mean I thought 08 was amazing until I had played it for a while and noticed all the annoying bits.

l

It is Arsenal v Chelsea, though.;)

Bit of realism form EA?

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

I believe this isnt a flaw. It happened in 08 because of momentum, if you wrong foot the goalie he will dive late because he has to 'regain' his momentum. With the drogba goal, he does a quick unexpected turn before his shot, with I believe wrong footed the goalie.

True. I would also prefer too slow goalies than too fast.

But, my real gripe is that he does an unnecessarily long dive after the ball has already passed him. In real life, it would be more likely that the goalkeeper would just take a step in the direction of the ball and put his arms out, but seeing how he is clearly beaten, he wouldn't throw himself. It's not a normal reaction or reflex, if a ball is well beyond your reach your reaction is more one of standing still and observing the ball. Also it would be far better to not throw himself since if the ball hits the post he will be on the ground form the dive save attempt when the ball bounces back out.

They should make it so that the goalkeeper doesn't even attempt to save balls well out of their reach, they should just move towards them so to speak. If the ball is so wellstruck and you've no way to reach it, your main focus is following the ball anticipating where it might go next (post, bar etc).

It could be the case of the guys playing it doing a PES5, constantly running into players holding A for dear life. If you were a bit more cautious and controlled it would probably look alot more realistic.

Though, most of those standing tackles should be freekicks. Most seem to be just players running straight into their opponents bodies bringing them down. or taking their legs out with a sweep of a foot or such.

To be fair, if the keepers didn't go for shots EA would probably get criticised by the community as well.

Although I do agree with your comments.:TU:

I like the improved physicality.. it will keep the scores realistically down

Yeah, I agree. Getting it right would be the best thing hehe. :)

SO far I'm happy wiht what they've done. Everything seems to have moved in the right direction, and while it could get better, I'm just happy to play a game where the goalie doesn't save almost all shots that are directed at the very base of the post from medium range. :D

you can control what every player does with the custom tactics and what area of the pitch they stay in or advance to.. or cover...

Finally watched the video, looking really good, one thing they still haven't fixed, Cech taking drop kicks with his right foot, should be using his left foot.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Just listened to podcast would of been nice to hear some negative criticism surely there must of been.

But anyway sounds good some interesting points EA have employed a ball specialist to help obviously in the way ball reacts physics etc. And also other point is they know people who removed network cable in online matches as people said on forum that this person quit match they looked it up and most of times in turned out to be them.

See your fatique question was answered Placebo and question from you Sweetkilla. :))

Thanks for the heads up, I've missed that entirely. I thought there were only one set of sliders for the whole team, really great that you can control down to the individual.

yeah they didn't say anything from previews but I asked one of the guys that played the game at VC and they said they have a mapped area of the pitch for each player and you can set where they roam when you have the ball and where they track back when you lose it :)

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

lol kuranyi on the cover? omfg. I shouldnt buy this. Ok need to start making a custom cover tonight

Well, if that works well, that's impressive! It's the only thing I was missing from good old PES, the tactics depth. But I like a lot how are they conceptualizing the whole thing, I'm dying to try different tactics with different teams, agains my mates, and see the different results... Things like that really make for a lasting game appeal.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

yeah my question did get answered was hoping they would show the connection quality of your opponent in a 1v1 matchup not just the lobbies as you get so many laggers from mexico/italy for example

yea... i dont understand why Kuranyi ... especially in the german dress ... he make only one game for germany in euro 2008 and shoot no goal...

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Anyone know if the "highlights" at half-time and full-time actually show the 'best bits' from the FULL match? rather than just 2 or 3 clips, or sometimes 1 clip repeated over and over again. They had no consistency in Fifa 08.

It's not really a big deal, I'm just wondering if there's any info on this.
