Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

yeah my question did get answered was hoping they would show the connection quality of your opponent in a 1v1 matchup not just the lobbies as you get so many laggers from mexico/italy for example

true that. I always check my status in the lobbies before and after a ranked match.
and if's always 3green bars :)
going thru a wireless router.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Just watched the vid and really liked it.

The physicality looks really impressive and heading looks a lot better now aswell. As trance mentioned with regards to coopz's complaint about the players falling over, the people playing that match looked like they were holding down sprint the whole time which would make all the stumbles and collisions/falls accurate. Playing it normally should reduce that and highlight big pushes/hard tackle's all the more. Really liked the different animation/direction to different collisions, at one point an arse player is shielding the ball and a smaller chelsea player tries to tackle, he just bounces off and falls on his arse, really good.

Also at 85min in the vid ade makes a briljant run off the ball adjusting his movement with a "bend" to open up the pass from the controlled player (rosicky i think). Cant remember seeing that in 08, or euro (although Ive hardly played it).

The goalie for the 2nd che goal was a bit poor, I think we could do that is pes aswell, adjust your position at the last moment and shoot to get the ball past the goalie, it was just the delayed dive, which was in 08 aswell, that looked cack.

Players are looking even sharper and more responsive with less animation used between movements which can only be a good thing. Can't wait.

What I really miss is different pitch sizes, I used to love that is pes2? when we had 16 stadiums which had 4 different sizes between them. Loved how I would [need to] adjust my tactics when playing at bayern/barca as they had the biggest pitch. Would set my team up for counters as I had Owen/Diouf/Heskey up front which would work a treat. The same way you had to play differently at the smaller pitches and try to dominate possesion and score with good movement/1-2's.

Annoys me that Anfield, as a Liverpool supporter, lacks the atmosphere because the pitch is too far from the stand. Although Im not sure the "accurate" scale of the stadium and chosen pitch size is the reason for it. It's a logical one, however Anfield has one of the smallest pitches around (Barca having one of the biggest). Which would mean that the stand would be on the touchline as it is in real life.

Guess that will be in the improvements for '010 thread. It really does add an extra layer of depth to playing styles and tactics.

Who cares? He does so it's important to him, same as I care about manager mode and many people don't, we all have different things we do or don't care about.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

heavy day for footie lovers - first trailer of pro evo + first gameplay videos of fifa ;)

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Take it easy.

The Hype for this game is tremendous - and yes, at times it has looked quite promising. However, the latest videos have done very little for me in terms of raising MY hype.

Haha dude it was a joke. But profit has done it many times before, i just fail to understand the point of wasting your time just to repeat 'its crap its crap its crap over and over, isn't there something better for this person to do? in the old fifa 09 thread i think he said 'its crap and it will always be crap'...lol. Fanboyism drives me nuts and i will never understand it. Anyway I'm sure there are many things someone could say they dont like from the videos and that's fine, I mean your post is the way it's supposed to be, constructive! :)

So far to me tho the game looks quite good from the vids, esp considering its an old build. Shielding looks great!

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

It still looks far too dark in night games on those Man Utd - Barca shots

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

They seemed to have fixed the lighting at night matches. Its no longer bright in the middle and dark on the sides but it could do with being a bit more brighter. And in the Man U - Barcelona match the stands at Old Trafford are close to the pitch.

but it still looks like it's very dark in some areas

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

I love being a gamer for moments like these. All the videos and screenshots look fantastic, I just can't wait to get hold of the demo. September is too far away.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

It has that 4 way shadow thing on night games too, On tv i never notice these shadows at old trafford, maybe im not looking hard enough :P

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Was just about to mention the pitch lighting, they've gone back to 08/07 lighting models with ridiculous dark patches on the pitch. They had fixed it for euro and now they have taken a step back.

I honestly wonder at times what the thinking is behind these decisions, because they obviously can see the f#$king difference, after all we have floodlights for a reason!

I think they do it to increase the diffence between day and night matches to increase the atmosphere/lighting difference. In real life the major difference is shadowing with sunlight/shade and floodlight/lack of shade. Its mostly the colouring that changes between the two, I guess they consider it to be too close to each other and feel they need to do this. Same as it just pisses me off and makes it look like they are having electricity problems with some of the floodlights not working.

@ Mark, it differs per stadium, some stadiums have the big corner flood lights that give the 4-way shadow but stadiums like OT and Anfield have a row of light along the roof of the stands meaning they don't. Im not sure which is more common, guess its the 4-way as its the model they are using.

Well, thats probably because the Euro stadiums had to be made from scratch, and so they fixed it.

Maybe in FIFA09 the new stadiums have fixed lighting but the old ones don't, because they're too lazy to fix them...

I think night games on Euro were way too bright, they have to find a better balance in terms of lighting.

I agree, plus it looks dark and gloomy and not inviting to play there. I get the feeling the dark forces of Sauron are seeping onto the field.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Just checked out the PES2009 trailer and i can safely say that it hasnt the slightest chance of even remotely competing with FIF09.

Well, to me it doesn't better if PES or FIFA will win 'the war'. I just buy the best footie, a few years ago a always bought PES but since the great improved FIFA 08 and the dramatic PES 2008 I know I will be buying FIFA 09 this year.
