FC Barcelona Thread

So we have signed Adriano from Sevilla. A great player in my oppinion. He can play ar side back both left and right, and can play further in the pitch even as RW or LW. He can play in almost any position in the field and he's VERY fast. A great piece to add to the puzzle and add variations to the starting eleven.

The only downward is he's quite prone to injuries. But let's see how we deal with that.

The cost seems good to me: 10 M€ for a great player that knows La Liga already.

that is a great signing mate! always loved adriano.... he gives his best on te left side, but since barça already got maxwell and abidal on that side, i reckon he'll be mostly employed on the right side.
10 millions are a lot of money, but imo he's worth it. :))

Yes, sad as it is... But it's very suspicious how in 10 of the last 13 seasons, the last match has been played in the Bernabeu... They say it's done by a computer, but really, it's a little odd...

No matter, we've won last 2 seasons there and we can do it for a third time in a row. :BOP:

The title will go to the team that makes less mistakes. I miss the old La Liga seasons when any team was an ultimate challenge and up to 6 teams were possible champions.

I miss the old Liga when a team like Deportivo La Coruna was actually good and entertaining.

That season where Sevilla finished 3rd but managed to stay in the title hunt until the final day was also memorable.

Dani Alves' free-kick that beat Barcelona and put Sevilla top in the second half of the season was a great moment.

I don't understand why they use that computer system nowadays (Portuguese league do the same). What about the old balls system?

I remember some great teams and moments of La Liga from the past such as when Deportivo lost the title in the last fixture because of a penalty, Atletico of Vieri and Antic, Valencia winner of UEFA in Rafa's time, etc (really didn't like too much that 2006 Sevilla team).

That goal was magical, the execution, the timing of it all, everything. One of the only ways of topping that would be to do the exact same thing in a World Cup final.

Yes, but that goal was very important anyway. Last minutes of the last match of the season. Barcelona needed a victory to qualify for the champions league. This goal in the 87' minute put us in.

The bad thing about it: Rivaldo had a bad season, but after that goal no one dared to get rid of him, so he stayed one more season. It was the worse season for Barcelona in the last 22 years. It's curious how one of the best goals I've ever witnessed could lead to one of the worst seasons I've lived.

But Rivaldo was a genius and this goal should be in any compilation.

Well Barca still have plenty of capable youngsters in their cantara should their financial problems mount though at present they are just temporary.

As I did say for the competitiveness of La Liga to be maintained the TV deals need looking at which won't please fans of Barca or Real Madrid but would be to their benefit in the long term.

That said even clubs in the lower reaches of La Liga such as Tenerife still played attractive technical football which would put the lower half of the Premiership to shame.

I think its to late now, the gap is probably the biggest in any given league between Barca/Real and everyone else. their squads read like all star teams.

I dont care if real or barca win the title every year...so does man u and chelsea in the prem... both real and barca got out of the coppa del rey this years making ways for little team to prove their worth when theres no tommorow games

It is curious, but then again i'd be suspicious of a team who only scores unique goals like that. It's a sign of incapability to score from normal plays - which prolly happened against Valencia so Rivaldo even tried that monster :P

Barcelona today scores some unique goals and lots of beautiful ones but if you look closely plenty of those are the simplest of plays. Cause.. it's football. Be creative. Here's a ball, there's a teammate and the goalie - do something. That old Barcelona had some problems in this department.

Yes, so true. Desperate times call for desperate measures, they say.

The irony is that Rivaldo had an offer from Lazio of about 40 M€ (it was a big offer those days) and Barcelona couldn't sell him after that goal. We lost all the money and Rivaldo quit the club the next year at zero cost.

It's bloody difficult to take certain decisions when only time will tell you the outcome. One thing is clear: if you're a big club you can't depend on a player, even if he's the greatest. I'm aiming at Messi here, not Rivaldo. And Messi was the sole reason why we won La Liga again last year. Xavi and Iniesta did poor seasons, Toure played occasionally and Ibra had a great start but went down through the season. Without Messi we couldn't win.

So, for this coming season, we must make sure we're not so dependable of him. That's why Cesc signing makes sense. We need more scoring men from the midfield. Or someone like him, Ozil or Gourcuff, though I would prefer Cesc if it's doable (seems likely, but...).

This season it was plain to see that this Barcelons squad lost its "beauty", so to speak. Without Henry, Toure, and Eto'o, Messi was operating more in the middle to cover the loss of attacking threat. I saw very little of the Alves- Messi partnership back in 08-09. That treble winning squad had a unique chemistry with that front three. With Henry stretching the team to the left, Messi had all the freedom to express himself in that extraordinary season. Take nothing away from Messi's performance this year. He's still the world's best.

What's the news on Ibrahimovic?

If Fabregas or any other midfielder arrive it will be hard for him to play with Pedro and Bojan also looking to play.

I'd actually love it if Ozil came. Especially since he's been hinting at us as his childhood club since january. And... we could even tell him to wait for us and he'd wait a year out to come for free.

Cesc may indeed prove to be too expensive. A lesson to youngsters who still dream to play for the big squad. Pique was lucky. Cesc might not be. Leave at one's own risk.

I would love Ibra to stay. His first half of the season was great. He adds variety to our attack line, he's got different attributes than Villa and can play as a target man, no one else can do in the squad.

To me, it's more important to secure Ibra and make him feel important than to bring Cesc. Though we NEED a player like Cesc. It can well be Ozil, of course, but I think he's still too young and unexperienced compared to Cesc.

It makes more sense to gte cesc next year then now. you still got iniesta and xavi who are both better and similar players to cesc.

Ibra, i cant see why you would keep him unless he is happy to play second fiddle due to david villa being in your side along with messi

It depends. If Barcelona play with three strikers, Ibra has no chance with Messi,Villa,Pedro,Iniesta, and Bojan who are favoured over him I think., maybe not Bojan. But Pep last year played with 4 and put Messi in the middle with Pedro and Iniesta on the sides and Bojan ahead, Ibra might get some playing time.

A defensive player is expected to arrive soon to Barcelona to replace Toure unless Cesc goes through.

Villa will spend a lot of time this season in the left wing. I prefe4 him there than as a striker. And I prefer Ibra to Bojan a thousand times as a striker. Let's see how it unfolds.

Of course, the arrival of someone like Cesc or Ozil would change this, because Iniesta would play up the pitch and then Villa to the center, but I prefer the "Ibra" version with Iniesta and Xavi in the middle.

And yes, we need someone to replace Toure, that's the main critical spot in our squad now.

Adriano is a great buy! Provides some great utility, versatility and depth to a number of positions in a quality fashion. Happy for him and Barcelona! Sevilla's loss of course but I'm sure they have somebody lined up even more promising. ;)

And even Del Nido gave him, his blessings and has very good relationships with him still.

The price they got him for is very good as well. :BOP:

I agree Ozil might be young and the chemistry isn`t the same ,but Marcos Senna is linked , He is a good option for a 2nd or 3rd choice at least their is chemistry with him. As your attacking side it`s perfect ,because messi won`t have the burden to carry the team w/ Villa providing lethal attacks xavi n iniesta could be on cruise control allowing them to be fit most of the season. OK if cesc came in it wouldn`t be much of a change on the pitch ,but more of a lift in the squad morale w/ an over the top chemistry another mate is always inviting . You see I can post objectively :SMUG:

Of course I see it, that's a good post. It's simply that sometimes you had written harsh things while I always tend to respect everyone so I get a little jumpy. You know me too. :))

The point is I hate Senna being an option. I really doubt they sign him. He was a super player... 3 years ago. Right now he's too old. I know they try not to sign someone too young because there's a player in the youth team (Oriol Romeu) who is considered to be a new "guardiola" mixed with the good things of Busquets. His future seems incredible so it wouldn't be a good thing to sign Capoué, for example. But I fear we end up having a blatant hole in our midfield, we need someone to recover balls besides Busquets.

About Ozil and Cesc, to me the difference is basically chemistry as you say. Cesc played with Messi and Pique his whole youth. Ozil should adapt. I don't doubt his talent or skills, he seems to be a great player, but Cesc is an absolute star.

well watching u-19 Spain team mostly from the Barca youth team lol Thiago Alcantara looks very impressive not sure if Rochina is going to make it w/ Bojan in front of him. Nonetheless Spain`s future is not slowly down.
