English Premier League thread

I dont think it's been done in the PL era, 3 teams have won 18 out of 19 home games (Chelsea 2005-6, drew with Charlton; Man Utd in 2010-11, drew with West Brom; City in 11-12 drew with Sunderland). And additionally there are also more teams who went a season undefeated at home (Chelsea 3 times more, Man Utd twice more, Arsenal three times and Liverpool once).

If you go back to 1891-2 Sunderland had a 100% home record winning all 13 home games in the top flight when they won it - but I dont think anyone has done it since.

4 away games for us (don't need to count our customary Old Trafford away win ;) )
Not too worried about big away games. It's the away games to the likes of Palace that I'm more concerned about :FAIL:

Arsenal had a great 1st half and top of the table consistently throughout. Liverpool has been great too, but you just wonder (IF) they don`t finish above 4th spot all could crumble. T^hey must bring in new blood or lose Suarez and any hope for the future(the transfer window is perfect 4 them). City are starting to gel:CRY: ,but they look soulless and playing as professionals.(zombies/grim-reaper )

Chelsea has a manager that makes headlines about him and not the club. Everton are pulling tricks out of the hat(expendables). Mutd just doing their part below the radar as,if to say ('don`t mind us')Newcastle has found character n shape. I think Spurs are playing from the high (new gaffer) once that settles down they won`t be in the running. March will reveal and the rotation bug will hit. I predict

ManCity(injuries/fatigue...their to lose *CL)
Arsenal/Chelsea (CL determines)
Liverpool/Mutd(CL)/Everton
Newcastle
Southhampton
Spurs

I'm pretty sure we'll win most of those game, the only one I'm worried about is the Anfield one, otherwise I expect us to comfortably handle every other game.

Arsenal play better away so that calender isn't that scary, and Liverpool should really take the opportunities they have to secure top 4.

Important to remember LFC will play 5-10 matches less than the other top 4 contenders, depending on cup runs. Could make a huge difference, especially in the early Feb time with both Manchester clubs potentially in 2 UCL and a Carling Cup final around their prem matches.

Playing fewer matches is good if you have a very slim squad, but generally it's better to play more. Liverpool's squad isn't that skeletal so in their case it could mean that their back-ups aren't entirely match warm if there's an injury and they need to step up.

Manchester City at home: 10 games played, won 10, drew 0, lost 0, goals scored: 38, goals conceded: 6, Average goals scored per game: 3,8, Average goals conceded per game: 0,6

Define 'comfortably handle'.

Yeah, we're also undefeated at home, big deal. We'll win that match don't worry, you clearly aren't familiar with the Mourinho effect.

What exactly is the Mourinho effect? Getting away with a lot?

City isn't just undefeated at home, they have a 100% record. And if it wasn't for that Ramiress dive you would've been beaten at home a long time ago.

Arsenal's fixtures from February 8th to April 5th:

Liverpool (A)
United (H)
Bayern (H)
Bayern (A)
Tottenham (A)
Chelsea (A)
City (H)
Everton (A)

I am amazed at how bad English referees actually are. It is awful to have referees like those in, supposedly, the strongest league competition in the world

I think the only big league that has proper refereeing overall is bundesliga. don't be that pessimistic, guys. :)

I haven't said that there are no bed referees in other leagues. But just in last 3 match days in EPL there were quite a few big mistakes from referees:

Liverpool vs. Man. City - wrongly disallowed goal for Liverpool and no penalty given to Liverpool

Arsenal vs. Cardiff - one or even two penalties for Arsenal weren't given, penalty (or IFK on the edge of penalty box) for Cardiff wasn't given

Tottenham vs. Man. Utd - there was a penalty that should have been given for United

those are from games that I have watched and I remember them. There were few others mentioned on different sites overt the internet.

Just to conclude: EPL has nice games, great teams and players, quite a few great managers and TV coverage is fantastic. But referees are getting worse and worse with every season

Was that voted for primarily by Everton fans? Bizarre to see so many of their defensive unit in there.

Is it the season so far, or for all of 2013?

Kompany is the best defender in the league by a mile, and RVP handed his team the title in May.

i like coleman, he a decent player but the other everton players probably shouldn't be on there
i think they aint counting players like ozil, negredo etc.. who didnt play in all 2013 in premier league..:TTTH:

also, berahino for the WC 2014 squad. he can take rooneys place.

Gerrard shouldn´t be there. Also i´m sure Howard isn´t better as Cech or other top teams GK...

i think Hazard should be there as well...

My team would be:

----------------------- Cech ------------------------

Coleman ------ Kompany ------ Mertesacker ---- Baines

---------- Yaya Toure --------- Ramsey --------------

----------------------- Rooney ----------------------

--------- Hazard ------------------- Suarez --------

----------------------- Aguero ----------------------
