English Premier League thread

He's always doing similar things before big matches. He tries to influence refs and it works very often. He might be an absolute winner, but he's not a fair winner.

Man Utd will go down in history as the second coming of German football: they win but seldom with attractive football. Am i prejudiced? Yes, i used to be a Man Utd fan who became fed up with ugly wins. He's arguably the best manager ever but the way he does it revolts me as a football fan. I prefer football to any club and that is the reason i stopped supporting them. People who are not intelligent enough to understand this (they don't have to agree) think i hate Man Utd or Ferguson.

And now the important part of this post: Swansea.
This is a role model of a club. It doesn't really matter if they reach CL or not. As long as they continue to play the most attractive football one can dream to see...For me that is enough. The fact that a club like Swansea is even considered for Cl football is a good thing for football.

As much as i like it, i don't think it's good news for English football. This means that at the moment the big clubs fail. There used to be a top 4, then a top five and people were speaking about a possible top 6 (Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool + Man City + eventually Spurs). Now there is a top 2: both Manchester clubs. Clubs like Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool are on the verge of being overtaken by clubs like Swansea, Everton and others...in the end those clubs will fail, but the 4 big clubs i mentioned are well beneath both Manchester clubs.

Arse and Chelsea, and even Spurs, aren't doing very well because of poor management. Roman is doing his best to beat Swales' record and Arsenal just won't spend the money they have received. They have received something in the region of 100-120m from City, Utd and Barca in the last few years but it seems they have chosen to bank it. They would be more than capable of properly challenging for the title if they had reinvested it. Spurs sacked Redknapp which, imv, was just bizarre. A couple of players in and they could have challenged also.

City only replaced what they lost/sold (probably making the squad weaker as a result - Nastasic apart) so there was a chance for these clubs to step up but only Utd have in the end (partly thanks to Roman), having spent on bringing in extra quality - incl a 50m rated striker.

Not true about arsenal banking the money they received if you look back over the last couple of years they have reinvested most of the money they recieved from players.

Right....

2010-2011

In

Silva 3.5 Mill
Squillaci 5.7mill
Koscielny 11m

Out

Eduardo 6m
Simpson 1.3

2011-2012

In

Mertesacker 10m
Arteta 10.5
Santos 6
Park 5.7
campbell 0.8m
Ox 12m
Gervinho 10.5
Jenkison 0.9m

Out

Nasri 24m
Cesc 30m
Eboue 3m

2012-2013

In

Cazorla 16.7m
Podolski 10.5
Giroud 10.5

Out

Lansbury 1m
Song 16.7
Persie 27m
Vela 3.4

Total spent over those 3 seasons = £114.3m
Total Money recieved in 3 seasons = £112.4

So we actually spent nearly 2m over what we received in. It is a one of those ridiculous things in football where somebody just thinks something, probably a pundit and then everybody latches onto it, without looking into it properly.

But it isn't great because at least we could pretend that we haven't been investing the money and that is why we have problems now.....when in fact we are investing the money...but we are still not doing very well  .....but that is a whole other subject :PP

Basing it off here http://www.transferleague.co.uk/premiership-transfers/arsenal-transfers.html and from 2009/2010 (the year in which City started giving you loadsamoney)

about 44m banked

More around 40m and we still have the January transfer this season where he said he is in for a couple of players, so we can see at the end of the season.

Even so if it is 40m (Without taking into account, the January transfer window) then is that the majority of money that they have received in? It's about a 3rd of the money they have gotten in.

You said "Arsenal just won't spend the money they have received. They have received something in the region of 100-120m from City, Utd and Barca in the last few years but it seems they have chosen to bank it. They would be more than capable of properly challenging for the title if they had reinvested it"

Which isn't right :))

Yea, I didn't mean to say they have banked all of that money. I misspoke, sorry

40+m is enough for 2/3 top players. And perhaps if they had spent some of that money earlier you'd still have RVP

Yeah hopefully they spend the 40m on a couple of great players in January.

But that 40m most of it comes from the 2009 season really (31m)(17m also in 2011/2012 but we bought in a lot of players in that season, so it is harsh to say we weren't spending the money, just they didn't come to the exact amount we got in) over the last couple of years we are spending (or trying to spend)what is coming in. But people still speak because of that season really, because it wasn't reinvested straight away. So now the recent seasons are getting tarred with the same brush.

Arsenal are spending the money they are getting in now and they are buying more experienced players. We just need a few more and at least a couple more top quality to beef up our squad and I think we will be fine.

Manchester derby: the team won it from the stars.
Clichy: how stupid...
I don't like Utd's football but they are so efficient.

Also: the team with the best GK won it. De Gea effectively made saves, Hart didn't.... He looked bad when Utd scored their first goal, but he wasn't to blame for that...IMO Rooney completely missed his shot.

The ref (in the end we always talk about them after such matches...that says ore about football than about refs to be honest): he made mistakes (the wrongly disallowed goal from Young) but it is very difficult refereeing those kind of matches. One example: refs can give a penalty every single time there is a corner...they should do it... Rooney should have got a yellow after a couple of minutes, English NT players are over protected...

But IMO United deserved their win...

About refs: i've defended them but sometimes there are things i really don't understand. Two crystal cleart examples from other matches this weekend: Oxlade Chamberlain's push on Popov just before Arsenal's second penalty and Fellaini holding Dembele in Everton-Spurs (even Fellaini himself stopped playing, the only reason i can see is that he was convinced himself that was a foul). Both times the re was very close and was watching what happened. That is something i don't understand. Brittish refs should judge fouls like continetal ones, they give more fouls...

But in the end both players and managers are to blame for the unfair way football is played now, so they shouldn't complain about refs.

Hart had no chance with any of the goals. If De Gea played better than Hart that was because he was worked more than him. Can't remember Hart having anything to do other than pick the ball out of the net.

On the performance of the 2 teams over the 90 mins a draw would have been a fair result but Utd did have a goal wrongly disallowed before we took complete control which would have killed us off so in the end I can't complain too much.

Still, to lose because Nasri is a coward (he's more to blame than Clichy, imo) is a shocker.

I never said that Hart was to blame for any of the goals. I said that De Gea saved some goals.
What was wrong with Nasri? Because he stuck his foot out? Come on...these things happen.

If Clichy had passed earlier or hoofed the ball in the stands the free kick would not have been necessary.

I prefer City and their football to United (by very far), but today United played as a team and City didn't.
Aguero, Yaya Touré, Balotelli and Nasri had poor matches. IMO Barry is not good enough for this level. A couple of weeks ago i had a discussion about Suarez eventually going to City. At the time i said that City's forwards were all better than Suarez. I'm not so sure about that anymore...

Nasri hid behind Dzeko. He ducks out of challenges at the best of times but this was just completely unacceptable. If he had just stood there and let the ball hit him we get a draw and keep our record in tact. Clichy was trying to win the game and for that I can forgive him, he was indirectly responsible but the phase of play had moved on and Nasri was directly responsible.

I think Aguero is suffering from his injury and the lack of a consistent partner. His best position is on the shoulder of the defender and Tevez is the best partner for him in that regard but Mancini just hasn't been playing him for some bizarre reason. We started to play when he came on.

Time to sell Balotelli imo. PSG are supposed to be keen and they offered 40m in the summer. I fear Mario is just another wasted talent.

You are way to harsh on Nasri. He IS a litle shit, but today the biggest mistake was made by Clichy. This is an experienced player, not an 17 year old. Besides that IMO he played a very good match.

nasri cost city a point. what a complete fucking coward. why is he scared of the ball? he should be fined a minimum of a month wages for that. kompany did the same thing vs real madrid when ronaldo scored, what is wrong with city players, they aint like gettin hurt?

He certainly was weak at that free kick. I can understand him taking Yaya Toure off as he looked totally spent, but sometimes having a big physical player at set pieces can be vital, if Yaya Toure had been in the wall chances are it would hve been blocked. I think mancini really needs to think about his strikers, especially Balotelli, Tevez and Aguero seem to be his best pair and Dzecko seems to be the best sub. With no European football resting players isn't really an issue, as city will normally only have a game a week now. Why not play Tevez and Aguero at the start ( they looked far more threatening in the second half) and bring Dzecko if needed? He seems to indulge Balotelli a lot, whereas he has three better strikers than him in the squad.

With the current divisive nature of football, it's sometimes worth highlighting things like this:
tumblr_mes7v9PvrW1rx0atco1_500.jpg

After finishing up a great match of football, about 10 of the United AND City players went to X Factor together.

Perspective to the City fan that almost blinded Rio Ferdinand because of his 'hatred' of the 'rags'. Joe Hart and Rio are friends.

Yeah it's really disgusting to read some of the comments from City fans about something as silly as Hart being shown on camera with RVP and some of the other players. Not saying Utd doesn't have it fair share of idiot fans however, but come on..these are freakin professionals after all, I'd like to think that a certain level of respect can be expected at the very least. And hey let's face it, do you really think those guys went to the X Factor show just because they felt like it? I'm sure Hart would ve rather been home and RVP at the pub.

This whole "hate everything that has to do with the opposing team, no matter what it is" is ridiculous, and flat out scary at times.

SAF started the bang out of order bit calling ManCity 'noisy neighbors' that is a lack of respect from the top! SAF show no respect to others as well ' Typical Germans' . He just loves throwing out personal attacks

I've been saying for ages that i don't understand the tribalism in football.
It seems as if some English fans would prefer to go for another wife than being fan for another club.

Players and managers should also understand that they have a certain responsibility and are role models. They don't always behave like that. What happened yesterday to Ferdinand should never be possible. I hope the guy who did this will be punished (as was the Swansea fan with the racist behaviour towards Bassong, once again Swansea did the decent thing)

modern football fans are idiots. or they are angry internet terrorists who wouldnt say boo to a goose in the real world.

sad.
