English Premier League thread

Woodgate, King and Keano are all on about 60k a week and their our highest earners, Bent certainly isn't getting a lot more than Berba who is on 40k a week.

Its too good to be true.

Berba on 40k? well know i can see why he may want to leave he could easily get double.

Money isn't why he wants to leave, for the record he is still on his original contract and when he signed 40k a week was more than fair to pay him.

I think he'll do a good job there but their star players will leave though.

I hope he does well - I think Blackburn have taken a big gamble but he's the sort of character that won't be fazed by this. It is a big step-up though.

It would be nice to see a few more top Premiership clubs gambling on English talent rather than always going foreign (my own club included).

Yeah I think he'll do well. In his short managerial career he's done pretty good where ever he's been and he's no stranger to the Premiership having played for West Ham, Man Utd and Liverpool so I don't see it being a problem.

I hope he's a success, like has been said, I want more English coaches given a chance.

It had to be Newcastle , how long ago did Mike Ashley buy them, a few weeks ago? :))

Daft question but is there any particular reason West Brom don't have a sponsor on their shirt?

I think its's odd too Chris...last year thehad a very good sponsor (Deutsche Telekom)a being a premiershieam they should be more attive...i think WBA face a very diffult season.

I found Arsenal's play yesterd awesome...Denilsson's goal was fantastic IMHO...

Oh and i'm a spurs fan...another disastrous start...

They are still negotiating with potential sponsors, they said they'll print the sponsor on shirts for free for those who have already bought the kit.

It can't be that hard to find a sponsor though, they are a Premier League club after all.

What the heck happened there...
I saw an interview with Keagan on MATD and he was sure to have reïnforcements at the end of the transfer window...
I don't remember if that had any major signings sunday or monday but i don't think so...that could be the reason.

And yes for once they had a good start.

The board are telling the BBC that they definitely haven't sacked Keegan now and that as far as they're aware he's still manager. So nobody knows whether he has walked out of the club completely or whether he just stormed out of a meeting.

Keegan's Newcastle future unclear

The future of Kevin Keegan and the manager's role at Newcastle United is unclear after the club insisted it had not sacked him.

BBC Sport understands Keegan, 57, had left the club following a series of meetings with the board.

But in a statement, the club said: "Kevin has raised a number of issues.

"We'd like to stress Kevin is extremely important both now and in the future and want him to continue to play an instrumental role as manager."

However, the statement did not go into detail as to whether Keegan had left the club in the preceding hours as BBC Sport had been led to understand.

How do people reckon Berbatov is going to get on at Man Utd?

I think he and Tevez will become a great team, I wonder if Rooney would want out if that happened...

I think he'll do well for us but he was signed in the first place due to Rooney not being allowed to play his natural role(SS), But at the moment Tevez is the one on form and if we had to choose one currently to partner Berba it would probably be Tevez. I think we'll play all 3 against Liverpool or until Ronaldo returns to fitness.

Berbatov has shown that he as fully adpated in England. He will be a great signing for Man Utd, probably the missing link in the jigsaw of a team that already won the Premiership...let's hope (ans neutrals) that Chelsea has a good season because otherwise it could turn out to be a very boring season.

I don't believe in Liverpool, Man City and others (Everton is weaker that last season IMHO).
And as much as i love Arsenal's playing style, i'm afraid they will not be contenders this year.

Sadly, I agree! I think he'll take to it like a duck to water.

I'm guessing the plan is to offload Ronaldo next summer though and he'll use this season to bed down a new system. Fergie may be an angry alcoholic, but he's a canny fucker!

I never looked at it that way...you could be right. Very clever of Ferguson...

i think we're in for a surprise this season, with the new money man city has got now, its very likely one of the 'big four' is gonna miss out on a CL place for next season-that's gonna have serious financial consequences on that particular team....i reckon its gonna be arsenal

Get out of Town!!!

Arsenal will beat city twice in the league and humiliate them!!!! and they will not get higher than 6th this year in my opinion. Then Hughes will get sacked. and in the next 3 years they will have about 6 managers and they may win the odd Carling Cup but thats it!!

At the moment i expect us to finish top 7, but if were within 4-5 points by January and can bring in a couple on big guns then i think we would have a real shout at 4th place, Oh and we beat Man Yoo home and away last year and we didnt finish above them....

I got a bit excitable then.

I do think they will do well - but really. Just because you spend big, will not neccesarily bring you instant results. It happened with Chelsea (to an extent) - but they had a good set of English players in their team. and I think that was a big reason why the team functioned properly.

There are alot of factors that make a team great - just because Man City have money now - doesn't mean they will do that well in the next 3 years - alot of things can go wrong.
