English Premier League thread

What do you guys think about Sven getting sacked any day now?

I think its shocking and the owner needs a reality check!

Exactly, Sven has made some quality club sides in the past, Lazio for example were amazing, give him another 2,3 seasons and City will be maybe fighting for the top 4, but it doesn't really bother me 1 season of bit part success gets to the city lot :)

Yeah that's very poor, tbh it has went a bit pear-shaped after the initial bright start but it's a bit much to be putting the guy to the sword so soon. They have certainly got better, that's for sure.

Another year he could add some more quality and maybe get them higher again.

However this is the case with people throwing huge amounts of money around in the EPL and not getting what they expect. There's Billionaires here there and everywhere now owning EPL team, only 1 can get the big prize, so there's going to be plenty of unhappy sugar daddy's.

Sven getting the sack will be a joke. He's the best manager City have had in years. Can see him going to manage some of the bigger clubs in Spain if he gets the sack.

Its a absolute travisty and im completly gutted, not only this season have we played some of the best football ive seen as a city fan but we were making real progress. Ive been hoping all day that as there were no direct quotes from Sven or Dr Evil that it was just some shit sturring but ive just been told by a very reliable source that he will be gone come the end of the season!

True and even more so when it is foreign investors that lack the understanding and passion of a football club.

Feel bad for Sven, this is got to be one of the worst and rash sackings in the last few years of the Premiership.

So, thoughts on the new law in Britain about immigration that will of course affect football.

All immigrants must learn an acceptable level of english(whatever it means) to be able to work in the UK.

With clear rise of the permier league thanks to alot of foreign players going to england do you think this will affect the teams capabilities to bring in foreign players of high quality?

No I don't think it will make much difference to be honest.

English is one of the most spoken languages in the world and I know most big clubs in Europe have intensive language lessons for new players who don't speak the native tongue. I think if the club can prove to the home office that the player will be learning English they will get round it.

It's not like some guy coming to England on a boat in a crate and then turning to crime and not being able to contribute to society (just an example), I'm sure it will be fine.

It's the 6-to-5 ratio thing Blatter wants introducing that might cause problems!

That's dead on arrival. The EU will never allow it.

I do agree though with that the leagues should not allow too many foreigners in the team.

Portugal is in dire need of such rule.
We can have a full squad of brazilians if we want. It's just too much.

Only 50,35% of our league are Portuguese players. :\

From the 49,65% of foreigners 57,48% are Brazilian, 3,74% are Argentinian. Quite a gap.

Sounds like old Sven might be returning to Benfica after supposedly meeting some Benfica people (including Rui Costa) in Manchester.

He has a fantastic record with Benfica in his previous times there.

I think he was great with Manchester City too...if i were a manager after what happened i would never work for a club that is owned by that former Thai prime minister...

Personally i'm disappointed by Reading's relegation.
Flop of the season: Spurs (once again) and Liverpool (less, but still).
Man Utd deserved to win.
To me at times Arsenal played the best football (and i consider myself a Spurs fan).
Surprise package: Everton. They are getting nearer to the big 3 and Liverpool, but the gap still is more of an abyss...
Players i liked: Cesc Fabregas, Flamini, Sagna, Yakubu, Lescott, Arteta, Jagielka, Evra, Tevez, Carrick, Kenwyne Jones, Larsson, Berbatov, Elano, Petrov, Torres, Mascherano, Greene, Ashton...

There were some good predictions in there also with some shockers, such as 99% of the community thought Torres would be shite, while PLF picked out Bentley who did turn into a quality player. Apart from Torres flopping, Matherto had good predictions and maybe Nani wasn't amazing but had an ok first season (Better than Ronaldo's). It wasn't a 4 horse race but it was fair to say it was a 3 horse race this year and with teams improving on next season Liverpool will be closer, Tottenham will push for 4th while i dunno about Arsenal fortunetly i think next season wont be as good as this season honestly think it was amazing. 1st Liverpool were marching forward for a month or 2 then Arsenal took over for most of the season and it looked like theirs then they choked and we carried onto the end yet got a scare from Chelsea, while the bottom end had teams like Fulham,Bolton and Wigan suprising alot by staying up when all thought it was over, Everton gave Liverpool a little scare for 4th while Villa are also looking like their improving was a great great season for me. also 41 goals from a winger! that boy Ronaldo!:)

Great to see Fulham stay. I really like Hodgson, and I really like Murphy. Big game player. Still would take him back for the game at Old Trafford every season :P

Typical season though. The gap with the Big 4 is still alot. Most teams still die down when facing the top teams. Still, it's only Chelsea and United (the two richest teams) challenging for the title.

The relegation battle was great though. Fulham pulled our a miracle they really did. I started following them after they defeated Villa after going a goal down, and have really impressed me. Great spirit.

Hodgson would get my Manager of the Year award. Fulham were destined to go down, but he pulled them out.

Player of the Year is simple. Ronaldo. Torres deserves a mention just because it's his first season.

Best signing has to go to Torres for me. Santa Cruz was also a great signing. Tevez was very important for United. Sagna was a great buy. Yakubu was pretty good as well. Skrtel was also important for Liverpool's revival at the end of the season.

Most disappointing signing has to be Malouda. Been shite for Chelsea. Bent has been disappointing too. Anelka hasn't lived upto his price at Chelsea.

I think several players have left their mark on the season. Bentley has really turned into a class winger. Not the fastest, but very effective. A continental style winger. Glen Johnson has been the 2nd best right back in the league for me. I see these 2 as the future of the England NT right side. Flamini really turned it on, and still doesn't get as much credit as he should, while Fabregas remains overhyped. I also liked the looks of Giles Barnes from Derby. Hopefully a Prem club will pick him up.

This would be my team of the year

-------------------James----------------

Sagna------Ferdinand-----Lescott-----Evra

----------Mascherano----Essien----------

Bentley-------------------------Ronaldo

-----------------Tevez-----------------

----------------Torres-----------------

Subs: Reina, Vidic, Clichy, Flamini, Carrick, Petrov, Adebayor

For next season, I won't do many predictions on the standing until the transfers come out. Just a few players I think will make an impact. I really, really like the look of Hutton at Spurs. Think he'll be the best right back in the league in the next few years (and thank god, this league needs good right backs!). Anderson looks made up for this league. Hopefully, Ferguson gives him a more creative role next season. Think Babel will turn it on for Liverpool next season, and become a class player. Lucas might still take time. Agger, if fit, could establish himself as one of the top CBs around. Think Walcott might surprise a few people next season. I also like Michael Johnson from City. I really feel he can be the future Steven Gerrard under the right coach. Next season could also be a break through season for Micah Richards.

Friedel was fantastic gomito, but Birmingham's first goal was a big mistake, and unusual mistake...

And now that i'm talking about relegation teams, i have my own opinion on the relegation battle.
I have nothing against Fulham, but to me their great escape is a litle bit overhyped. Ok, thye came back very strong, but i have the distinct impression that the last weeks of the competition they played againt some lame, under-motivated teams (of course they also played against Reading, which is probably the match that saved them). But if you look at the way Portsmouth played against them, to me that is a disgrace...and the way Manchester City let slip a 2-0 lead...i don't know...if you are in a relegation battle, it's obvious that you can be helped by the calendar...
Knowing that Fulham had to play againt Portmsmouth a week before their FA Cup final...one could have known that Fulham would stay up. And to be honest, Fulham were very, very poor in that last match...
To be fair to them, they had bad luck with the long time injuries of Mc Bride and Bullard (i don't understand why that one isn't playing for a bigger club). If those two key players would have been fit the whole season, maybe Fulham would never have been in relegation danger...

Friedel is an exceptional goalie, he has been for years.

Not too bad, I predicted Man U to win the league and the 3 teams to be relegated in the correct order.

Bent has been disappointing but only to a degree, he never got a proper run in the team. Hopefully Ramos will keep him and use more often next season.

An interesting fact about Bent. He's in the Top 20 best paid players in Europe. Furthermore, he's paid more than anyone in Serie A, apart from Kaka, who is the only Serie A representative, in the Top 20.

I saw that table and I dont think its 100% accurate, he certainly isn't the top earner at Spurs and West Ham offered him 75k a week and he turned it down.

Brian McBride is quality. I reckon he could play for one of the teams playing for European places no problem. Shame he's so old now.
