eFootball PES 2021 Discussion Thread (CONSOLES)

I really cannot believe people have fallen for this...well scam in all honesty. They are playing on your goodwill for a footy fix by making you pay for an update. The least konami could have done was to fix those persistent issues for 21.

And the cynic in me sees their delay of the free Euro content as something to boost their justification for charging for an update. Its a sorry state of affairs.
Fallen for what ? I'm sure there are a lot if adults in here that can make balanced decisions . 25 quid or less for an improved version of 2020 ..either buy it or don't . I did and enjoying it .. I'll sell 20 now and get about 8 quid back

I take anything and everything this guy says with a huge pinch of salt. PES Universe, which he represents, literally makes money from people buying their option file. He's not going to say the game is terrible.

I'll wait for some neutral perspective and feedback on this game/update before considering a purchase.
well, you can take a look at this video and see yourself

I did. Got too annoyed with his voice so I quickly switched off.

EDIT: That's incredibly childish of me, apologies. I'm in a bad mood, baby kept me awake all night. I'd kill for sleep now.

But I'll wait until I read @rockstrongo etc opinion on this before spending (wasting?) money on it.

You can't placebo more animations , they are either there or not
The other thing is the AI press, not tried enough but my keeper had it has the ball at feet and AI pressed him down making me rush the kick. I've not tried standing still with a defender yet although it doesn't bother me too much

Also keepers seems to come off line a bit more when one on one
Mate, no offence intended here but you literally thought PES 2020 was an amazing game for nearly a year before deciding it was bad just a few weeks ago. I'm very dubious about people saying that they've fixed the gameplay in this. Didn't they literally say PES 2021 is just a rosta update?

From the man himself!!

I mean, if that video doesn't confirm how close it is to 2020... Certainly from an AI standpoint... Just look at the AI's goals.

My favourite bit is when he says defending is much better thanks to the improved responsiveness, then immediately concedes a goal because his defender jogs past the danger.

(Love TTB, by the way - he points this out himself.)

In all honesty, I think the increased responsiveness is just bewitching people into thinking the game is 100x better in many ways, when you can see from gameplay videos that... Well...

I can't help but notice all the things from PES 2020 that would stop any sane person from playing the game for very long in a Master League or similar - the dreaded turn-shot goals from the AI etc...

You've also got Salah in minute 20 of the video, unable to use his pace to burst away from the defender, so just kind of jogs in a circle instead. TTB says "oh man, I can't get the ball off Salah" but in reality, he stood off Salah and gave him an empty channel to run down - and Salah TURNED AWAY from it to jog around in a circle instead.

It doesn't represent football at all. Players aren't human-like. Responsiveness is increased a bit and people start raving about movement being organic - if it was, you would see players leaving defenders for dead, instead of having the catch-up issues (again, see Salah unable to outpace the defender). It's just awkward, bumper-car stuff a lot of the time.

...but I understand that there are a lot of people who just want to play a football game and are happy to take a few improvements and enjoy what they get. That's fair enough, and in truth, I'm jealous of that.

Fair play to people buying 2021 knowing what they're getting - but the idea that all 2020 needed was a responsiveness tweak (as if that was the only major issue!!) and now it's (and I quote) the "perfect" football game... Come on now...

Well he kinda said it himself at 8:20, the game "feels" better but the gameplay is the same.. or whatever.

Don't know what (if) they really tweaked but whatever it is it's quite a challenge to appreciate it from the videos.

Quite happy with the gameplay after 3 exhibition games on PS4 Pro (default speed). I noticed it feels faster than 2020, mainly because player responsiveness is way better, but game tempo is the same.

Right stick dribbling has been improved as well. I.e. basic commands like stepovers are not as clunky as last year.

I’ve seen few new CPU AI movements as well, and more shot attempts outside the box.

Graphically I did not see any worthwhile improvements, except 1: Camp Nou night lighting is better and 2: HDR now doesn’t have blind white menus (maybe specific to my TV?)

The rest of the game is the same as 2020, as expected.

Well, Chris, I.ve been literally playing PES 2020 until yesterday. Can I conclude that I’m insane and call up an asylum to help me?
There are better version of the game, but it doesn’t bother me that much.

Haven’t played the update yet, but it should be the same as PES 2020, no?

none taken, i stand by what i said and always said PES was great on release and every patch improved up to Xmas then it went downhill. The first game i played on PES 21 for me feels like an improved early PES 20 - responsive , skill moves are effective to win freekicks, AI is better. No way is this a placebo

They corrected player locking/freezing,Added animations,improved shooting,touch,passing,player reaction..The cpu AI,stats..

The way players push and barge and hold players off..Defending,ball awarenesss..So many small tweaks that just turn it into a finished game.

This is the promised land and it’s up there with the best PESs.

The great irony here is they produced the game you wanted😉

Fair enough mate and thanks for being cool about my post.

I really want to try this - is there a demo?

Playing FUMA this game is a beauty.

That through ball from Mendy was a thing of beauty.

I feel like FUMA is the most fun way to play this game, It forces you to really engage with every pass and piece of decision making in a match rather than just passively tapping X to pass until you get a chance on goal.

2020 let's this down on occasion due to responsiveness issues so if it's been ironed out like people say than i'm sure this will be a blast to play.

Ah come on, Stan. I think it's fair to use some creative language (i.e. "insane") when we're talking about ML issues where the AI wrestles control off you and your players don't respond to your input in certain scenarios (particularly when you're running after a ball and your player stops dead for a second, in order for the AI to get there first). All documented stuff, which I've got videos of myself.

If you think it's incorrect for me to call overlooking that stuff "insane", when I'm clearly not being literal, then... I don't know what to tell you. I understand you may not see that stuff, or even mind it - but surely I can describe it that way, when I can prove that stuff happens to me.

In-fact, as I said in that post - if you enjoy PES 2020, then A) I'm jealous and B) PES 2021 has improved responsiveness so you'll enjoy what you get out of it. My point is that it's important to expect just that, and not 100 changes. Which some are making it out to have. I'm not accusing anyone of anything - but I'm pointing out that, in TTB's gameplay video, you see a lot of the same issues 2020 has.

i like the trailer. probably weedens work! :)

edit: 6h:15min:08sec... :D
Wow.

I don't usually watch the trailers but saw a few positive comments so gave it a look.

Bang - right in the feels... That's amazing.

The budget that's gone into this makes me very excited.

Trying to figure out - have they put saved product costs (with this being a season update) into the ad, or... Much more exciting... Is this because they're actually going to invest properly in PES from now? Starting with the next-gen version?

this is by far the most "adult" trailer ive seen for PES... in the last couple of years. sure, some bling bling is in... but really diggin the style. its something aint looking like konami has done it... but more something that looks like a year 2020 trailer. anyway... its another approach id say. good.

Imagine the feeling in their camp when Messi came out saying he wanted to leave Barca...:DD

I've not managed to play 2021 yet, but while I get through a day of work, can anyone advise did we get 12 new songs? Not sure I can hack the same ones for another 12 months...

Yes FUMA is the way to play PES, because it forces you to play patiently and one of the best things about it is that if we set out settings to manuals it will also affect how the CPU plays.

Do you really think the badly implemented Team Spirit, the convoluted tactics, the barebone AI, the scripting, the lack of fouls, the lack of impact of the abilites, the PSX presentation, the horrific commentary, not to mention ML are just simply the restrictions of FOX? And with Unreal everything will be good? Im kinda positive that we will get a solid game which plays well on the ball...but thats PES2020 already IMO, the rest is design choice.

Alright trailer, seems like a similar idea as the Fifa Mbappe trailer, although I didn't fall asleep over this one.
Well the FIFA one was more directed at youth and trendyness whereas i feel PES's trailer is aimed more at older mature gamers because of the theme of age and reflection on the past.

Of course the PES one is more relevant to me than the neon seizure inducing FIFA one.

Is this actually confirmed/proven? I've heard a few state it as fact, I couldn't help but feel it myself that the AI's passing gets nerfed a little to balance things out for the FUMA human but i couldn't decide if i'm just seeing things or if it's a legit mechanic.

Trailer and buzzwords aiming at older adults with income. The meat and bone of the game, MyClub and gameplay are aiming at kids. Profit, everyone buys it.

Nail on the head..If your a pa1 that’s want more ball freedom and influence it’s a great option this year..They have also tightened manual shooting and I’ve been using the manual shot for lower driven and mid height crossing.

It’s the long ball also(great dynamic now )..and the way you dictate and influence the flow of the game.

Individuality has really stepped up and it’s way your teammates intercept,block,push,pull..

Wonderful game,so playable and so reminiscent of classic pes.Uber responsive and there’s so much variety all over the park.I’m in dreamland with this one.

When I play it..I think of all those guys that play retro pes because of the response and playability.I smile, because finally we have a game that matches that level of playability. Its just so enjoyable to play and your reminded why you love pes..The tiny details..

It’s so like real football and just eclipses the other game now on the pitch..

Have the online modes become active today? How is it? Laggy? Scripted results? It is my hope that as konami attention is on 2022 they do not introduce script to increase micro transactions this year in online modes .
