eFootball PES 2021 Discussion Thread (CONSOLES)

I've always like 21 and recommended it when people have asked, but I wasn't seeing the AI variety others were even with latest updates. Started a new ML yesterday and for whatever reason, I do see that variety now. Just played Barca away (Sociedad) and every AI attack was different. Really enjoyed it. What I've always thought with 21 was how you develop a feel for the ball - between the ball physics and animation Konami really nailed that part. Easily my favourite PES (would be better with San Siro) but not one I'm not sure people will truly appreciate. If you're in two minds, I would definitely buy it, patch it up to date, and get a good option file. Well worth it.

Fed up of stonewall penalties not given when the ai fouls in the penalty area because the defenders foot conveniently clips through the attackers foot but the slightest bit of contact outside of the box and the ref blows for a free kick.
That's right! Strangely in penalty area there's a lot of clipping so you players don't fall so no PK!

And the none awarding of blatant free kicks if you've built up a handsome lead.

In my opinion Konami didnt trust their own foul detection system so has all but turned it off in the box for online purposes. A dubious free kick is not a bad as a dubious penalty where money is a stake. This is why we never see or very rarely see an AI penalty. The ones i have, and i can count on one hand, are always slide tackles are always right on the line. It;s like the AI has got confused and thought it was outside of the area when commuting the foul. Its a shame as there have been patches in PES 20 where there has been a few AI pens there was even a patch where diving worked in the box when timed right. Now the dive button is just pointless and doesnt even work if you dive during an advantage

Try and dive with CRYstiano Ronaldo that should work as irl.

I think you should try in editing section, random questions. There someone with the appropriate knowledge, maybe could help you. :)
Welcome.

Spent some time with family and friends this evening and we had a mini PES 2021 tournament.

I thought I would give it a chance. Another one, since I don’t think I’ve played since the update.

Even against human players it’s so damn boring. There’s just something missing in PES 2020 and 2021. Ever since the game has been called ‘eFootball’ it’s been absolute dog shit.

And this isn’t an exaggeration - the night games and yellow pitches gave me a headache. I couldn’t look at the screen any longer. PES 2015, 16, 2017, 18 and 19 all have better colour schemes. What’s going on with eFootball’s over saturated graphics? Who at Konami said “Yeah this looks good, let’s make our pitches yellow this year no other game has that.”

The game is so stiff, sluggish and tedious. It’s just not enjoyable in any way, shape or form.

eFootball PES 2020 and 2021 are the worst games on the Fox Engine, it’s not even up for debate for me (yes I respect the guys enjoying it, each to their own).

Horrible game. I even prefer FIFA 20 and 21 with sliders and they are terrible

I got a big issue with PES in HDR in fact, about saturation. When i remove it, it's better. Edit: but i persisted and found the good balance with my TV setting. All was way too shiny in fact. HDR isn't that good on some games, let's be honest. Sometimes it makes the game less photorealistic, more agressive for the eyes. On the opposite, Demon's Souls with HDR is far better when activated : i checked on my PS5, same goes for PS4 games like Sekiro. But some teams (like Konami) doesn't even check the result of their game in HDR / They left the color panels and system without any HDR calibration.

But personnally, i think it's the best iteration since PES 2017, with zero doubt. Well, i like the physics, and the game is a bit less dynamic than the others (i prefers) but wayyy more balanced. You can't say "i don't want to debate" and "FIFA 20-21 are better" (worst "simulation/realistic" games i ever played) + "Worst Fox engine PES" on the same post bro  PES 2016 is, by far. Then 2015 and... To me only 2018.

Just one thing i hate, it's they've changed R2 to the stick. It offers more possibilities now that i've replayed it and thinked "i couldn't move like that with R2 pushing, but with both stick i can now", no joke. I prefers PES 2019 in some area btw, but not overally. To me it's 17/19 equally then 21.
I recognise it as one of the best football game created personnally, in terms of variety, physics, graphism etc. but not the one i prefers. Just because it's like a loop : same basis improved, since 2014-15 season. So it's becoming a bit repetitive and obviously... Annoying. Fortunately i've made a big break since PES 2019 (that i didn't played too much neither) and didn't played PES 2020 as much.
Fifa 20 was the most "i've completely lost my money" feeling i gotted since... Never in fact. I just can read that even those awful games are better than one i found the best let's say "objectively from my point of view " which means : without sentiments, just facts that on every area, you can more or less do everything.

Well Advanced Tactics works very well too especially gegenpressing, but to me in terms of base tactics it's still too light or too binary. There's a middle between "All out Defense" and "Frontline Pressure", and variant between "Counter Attack" and "Possession Game"... But well.

Well, i think it's really, really a matter of taste. "Stiff" to me means rigid, but in the good way, i prefers that than players running everywhere for no reason.
Well, the same way i didn't liked PES 3 at the time (no joke, i founded it wayyy too easy to score, until WE7I who was more balanced) and didn't disliked
that much PES 4 / Well in fact i founded WE8LE far superior. At the time i repeat.

@PauloM i gived you a like, but "best ever", well, it's a bit complicated when you compare PS2 limitations to PS4. With my own vision, the best combinated variety about ball physics, players physics/inertia and tactically : of course if you play like the tactic imposed. If not... It will ressemble to nothing. Advanced instructions and Fluid Formation are a bit forgotten it seems. Also the triple pressing, sliding tackle, double tap standing tackles... They're not used like they're should be. I was always about defensive stuffs and managed to control everything when i defend personally.
Like cutting a pass with a sliding tackle, i don't see that often (i saw once the AI doing it : i was like very surprised. Playing on the hardest difficulty of course)

To me, the most balanced game ever was Winning Eleven 9 on PS2. (Not PES 5) and Fifa11 console the best Fifa, to me at least from all time (as i prefers legacy defending by far) then Fifa 14 and 16 far behind > overrated (like PES 2013 with their 30kg players and zero physicality in defense or midfield etc. / you got it on PES 2011 at least. But i admit that CPU AI was pretty good. Defensive system and standing tacles were not as much effective and keepers weren't that good neither, yes in terms of positioning, but not intervention at all. But it's challenging in defense and there's possibilities, you can press first to approch the player and tackle after, Standing tackles are less effective than on any Fifa for example, but reaching the player in possession is by far easier + double pressing etc.

Sorry for the big melting pot of idea from the double post talking about everything lol. I hope it's a bit understandable with my averagely basic english vocabulary.

I agree mate. I’m torn between PES 17 and this one. After removing deep defensive line and playing 30+ games since that, I certainly do enjoy the variety in games played with different teams. If there was more defensive AI awareness and midfield battles like 17 then it would be up there.

Would you remove tactics .. attacking fullbacks etc.. for cpu teams. I think somebody said it plays better with these removed from all cpu teams.

Man that’s slow, and not very realistic imo. Probably coz I’m used to the quick paced PES 17.

Well irl does the ball travel from end to the other a the pace of 0 to +2. The game looks ridiculous above -1 speed. It is a matter og getting used. I played it on -1 for a long time but after a DLC the gamepace was altered and being too fast.

I must say that I’m surprised by how fun online divisions is. I didn’t touch online in PES for years as it had massive lag issues, but I played something like 12-13 games and it is always smooth and responsive to me.

Im more about the fun element than the real life scenario, playing on +2 seems to be the only way to get a good counter attack going, that would be akin to the speed of how it often plays out in real life. Enjoy!

Right now, with the last patch installed, playing with manual passing, advanced throghball and basic shooting on Top Player, PES 2021 is the best representation of the beautiful game ever. I recommend to play without HDR and raise the color settings of your TV to 80%, day matches are beautiful.

I think PES 2021 with future OF for every season will be the best way to play football offline.

Where the 5 bro, you have no idea how much time it take to do "up to date" option file. + Creating new teams.
Wayyy to much work for not a penny. I would do it if i was paid : because i don't joke, it's full time job.
Sometimes 10-12 hours a day (when we were lockdown again and again)

Probably one with most important transfers i don't know, but there was a lot of transfers the two last day. And lots of players to create from scratch.

I building a perfect 20-21 version with all corrected, and promoted teams if i got courage from 20-21 season, with transferrred players on Free agents (my idea was like FM, you start with debut July and up to you to restore the team by building real life or change history)...
BUT Only if i go courage. And honestly i don't think so lol, it will depends if i get faster to create full teams with my high standards.

Checking and correcting ALL ig players errors, and wrong faces... Imagine the work. Welll first height weight wrong foot and errors, faces after (some wil be only haistyle/color/beard if they're +- okay)

My project is kinda related to PES, but i've done it separately to purpose to Soccerway, Globalsportsarchives or Transfermarkt in fact.

But bro, i think there was an OF in the Editing section. I can't guarantee the quality btw.

Sorry I'm a bit old school and don't agree with paying for community mods, it's always been a community and sharing thing. Take a look in PC section no one's charging for rewriting the gameplay , net mods, turf mods etc...on top of that I'm surprised they are allowed to charge for copyrighted kits but that's another story.
