eFootball (All Platforms)

Awkward movements in efootball happen when you're trying to move unnaturally and it rightly feels clunky.
the real thing is that are limitation of the animations engine. A free engine chosen for cellular phones games and easy cross-platform and never optimized for a soccer game on platform like PC and PS5

Unreal Engine 4 was first used in a game in 2014, just like the Fox Engine in PES, however, the Fox Engine was developed with investment from Konami, which sought to adapt it as best as possible over the years to its football game, whereas Unreal Engine has always been a free, generic engine, so there was no specialised adaptation for eFootball once Konami took it on for its game to focus on a mobile game where 80 per cent of users are

I just don't agree that they are bad. Of course presentation as a whole is awful, lod is terrible and matchday presentation generally is really bad. But I don't think the animations or movements on their own are bad at all and I think they're both FAR better than FC. That may be subjective but I think FC moves in such an unrealistic way, animations contorting/breaking/cutting short to match input...I don't value that in a game at all.

If I play a pass into a player and have considered the pressure of the defender or played it too hard and the touch might be a bit heavy, I don't want the game to bail be out by making a totally unrealistic movement/animation. I should be punished.

To be honest, I never even consider FC – it’s always been so far removed from the world of PES... I’m comparing it to PES 2021 on PC, and I can tell you that eFootball is rubbish... Don’t even mention FC to me, because it’s never been a point of comparison for me.

I get that for console players, the original gameplay in PES 2021 (without any gameplays mods) wasn’t so great, but I can’t say that eFootball is a good game, (when I’ve long been used to a better game); efootball with its stilted movements that have nothing to do with whatever excuses you come up with to justify them, comparing a load of rubbish to the other game of FC, which has always been even worse rubbish...

Does offline efootball gameplay better than FC26?!? ... of sure! After all It's PES 2021 that has been scaled back to make it suitable for mobile devices and for another engine that was free and easily adaptable for easy crossplatform and competitive online gameplay, but I really don't think all this praise for eFootball is appropriate... That engine and/or the animations used with it – is still stuck in 2014 when it comes to optimisations for a football game.

Koinami has simply figured out how to make a fortune with next to no investment, having effectively gutted and re used (baddly) what was once PES 2021

To everyone praising eFootball Kick-Off here: can you tell me exactly why? From the videos, it just looks like the eFootball we already know, but with an offline mode reminiscent of FIFA Street—nothing more. Offline content is always good, of course, but that’s really not much, if you ask me.
The core issues with eFootball gameplay—such as ball physics, player movement, etc.—the abysmal graphics, and the atrocious menu.
But perhaps I'm overlooking something.
You’re not.

I’m saying this with full respect to all those who are singing its praises, but after having the opportunity to spend an afternoon with it at a friends house, I really don’t understand the hype.

It’s not bad at all, and as someone here who has spoken positively about efootball (especially in exhibition mode) with the current gen consoles, this is nothing special.

The offline focus and presentation is nice, and its plays well, but certainly not to the degree I’m seeing people talk about here and online.

It shows how starved people are for offline football content, but this isn’t it. And I wouldn’t encourage anyone to buy a Switch 2 for it.

You’re echoing my exact sentiments, and the game engine backs that up. For the past few weeks, I’ve been actively playing eFootball for the first time - specifically in an offline "Full Manual" league using players rated under 79—and at its core, it’s just PES 2021 with slightly more dynamic dribbling but various regressions in terms of complexity; visually, it’s a massive step backward, especially regarding running animations. Leaving aside all the nonsense about game modes and graphics, the gameplay isn't any better than the old PES titles built on the Fox Engine only. The offline AI is better, but it’s useless because there are no game modes to play.
Even if Konami were to release eFootball 2027 tomorrow in its current stage as an offline game with a Master League, the game would still be worse than the older installments.

Tried eFootball for the first time in months last night, Only in authentic mode.

This game is so disappointing but not for the obvious freemium stuff, but in this offline mode, the game is very good and improves so many of QoL gameplay elements from a nearly 7 year old PES 2021 (if you consider it's a copy of 2020 that released 2019) and visually on PC the lighting and high quality face models look wonderful.

The AI is very challenging and surprises you with realistic plays, the players and dribbling is so much more responsive, having a mechanic for should tackling/standing tackles instead of being shackled to the experimental or dated mechanics of 2020 such as R stick finesse dribbling or double tapping X for tackles as well as the sluggish dribbling, eFootball feels like a contemporary evolution of what PES could've been.

This is why it's disappointing to play, you end up wanting the game to offer so much more in terms of offline modes, editing or modding but this is as far as Konami allow us to sample. If you have the sanity to venture online, it's clearly a different game. Latency issues, having no control of defenders who run around in every direction but at the attacker and the usual shameless buffing and nerfing.

I can dream one day someone can decompile or unlock the game files once and for all and free this game of it's capitalist hell.

it's esactly the opposite... There hasn't been any progress in e-football since PES 2021; efootball it's exactly a regression of PES 2021 caused by its bad adapting to another engine like unreal engine 4; it has only other parameters of gameplays and of CPU beahviour that change every new update konami release... (nothing that konami couldn't already do also with PES 2021 in its latest evolution of FOX ENGINE); Latest update of PES 2021 gameplay (v.1.07.02) was deliberately ruined by konami to port its Pes users (disappointed by latest gameplay) to drop it and play and hope in efootball

efootball was the regression of pes 2021 to adapt it to mobile phones target to earn by microtransation and gacha style business

Anyone saying ball phhysics are bad in eFootnall/Kick Off...I don't know man.... after watching two World Cup games it seems like ball does not have tnat bounce and just stays flat snd heavy when passed around. South Korea passing around so mucj, I really didn't saw much of a ball physics in the real game of football.

Well at the very least it's evolved from 1.07.02, I still enjoy 2021 but I can't deny there's decisions made in 2020/2021 foundationally that are regressions from the previous Fox game's like I mentioned in my previous comment, and eFootball revises and solves some of those problems which is enough for me to be satisfied.

I agree, I think they're still decent, maybe a little more tethered than 2021 but still acceptable. I think presentation matters, the sound effects aren't good in eFootball and it makes the ball sounds like it's plastic when being struck or saved by a keeper.

I understand your point of view, but we’re looking at what is meant by ‘evolution’ from different perspectives:

The gameplay parameters that can change with every new release are one thing…

The application of those same game-play's parameters on the Fox Engine and the Unreal Engine 4 is another matter.

I’m talking about the technical evolution of the game... technically, the game is a neutered version of PES 2021... I’m telling you this as a PC gameplay modder.... I can mod the gameplay myself on eFootball and I made it on the exe of it, but I can guarantee you The way the game engine and its animations are “optimised” now just doesn't give me the same satisfaction as when I tweak the gameplays settings in the PES 2021 or Football Life executable file...

Konami has no interest in specifically developing a free third-party engine for its game, and I don’t know to what extent it could do so even if it wanted to; it makes more money leaving things as they are, as the number of users who are happy with the status quo and pay for their gacha-style game is constantly on the rise.

Yeah I think we have a different interpretation of evolution in regards to gameplay.

For me, I chose evolution over revolution which would imply eFootball has innovated, however I chose evolution as the game and graphics have evolved from PES 2021. It's evolved to be more responsive and have a more realistic AI behaviour than 2021 and I think that's factual. Visually maybe it's more subjective but in my view visually in lighting, rendering and technology, it's superior to the vanilla 2021 too. Modding would take both games visuals and assets further of course but for now that's a distant dream with eFootball.

And that last point brings us to the sad reality of why would Konami rock the boat. I guess in keeping with the theme of evolution from a biological standpoint, evolutuion doesn't aim for fulfilling potential, it aims for good enough to be sustainable, so if this is enough work for Konami to accomplish it's goal of making more money than the effort put into it, then why go above and beyond?

I would argue there are developers in that company who would love to make an expansive football sim but are at the mercy of their bosses and corporate.

I don't really think anyone has been massively hyping up efootball Kick Off. It's a fun basic game that doesn't take itself too seriously. I kind of the like the simplicity of it.

I've made some positive comments on it and have enjoyed playing quite a bit but it's nothing groundbreaking..

The thing is, it's really decent for the price and feels good to play a standalone football game again without cards, packs, events and micro transactions, even if it is less than half baked.

The thing I'm hopeful for most is that it could potentially be the catalyst for something bigger, better & more fleshed out in the future.

It definitely feels different and better compared to PC eFootball. Is it as good as PES? No, but PES is dead and it's not like we get many decent options in terms of offline football games these days...
