eFootball (All Platforms)

The new animations between in-play/out-of-play are nice. The ball boys, the players collecting the ball, the keepers etc. I hope it stays that way. I expect it'll be a next-gen only thing though, and if people are playing cross-gen online, you'll get the normal fades and replays while the pitch state reloads.
what i fear: there will only be those few new scenes... and they will repeat over and over again... whats needed, imo, is varience! why not script to have 10 players warming up, next time 2 groups of 5... different warm up methods... you get me!
maybe its just me, whos tired of those replay/cut/whatever scenes that are nearly the same for over 5 years! same thing with the commentary! any news on that?!

I was referring to the moments when the ball goes out of play for a throw-in or GK. And for those I wouldn't mind if they looked a bit samey, if the flow of the match carried on and so I could sustain my immersion in the sense it's a real game.

But re those prematch things – I 100% think what you fear is right. They will use the same scenes, the same animations with different kits/players, each time. Guaranteed.

That is what they would like us to think. Whether it's true or not, nobody really knows for sure. But considering the changes compared to mobile versions (stadium announcer, next-gen controller overlays added, new cutscenes*, animations that link up with earlier trailers** etc.), in my opinion, this will be the base of the game.

*I really like this one, sounds silly but supporters leaving at half time and/or getting up and moving around isn't something I've seen replicated before:

**I know it's already been posted but:

Is it just me or does the defender get the ball on that penalty in the first clip!

It's not about patience or impatience though. I'm not judging the beta as though it's the final game, and I don't think anyone is. Simply predicting that the beta is an early version of the final game, and then using that as an indicator of what to expect.

got you mate!
ball boys, refs, side line refs... all that stuff next to the pitch doesnt need a lot of varience (just flow as you said). by now i just want it to be in the game! :)

but why is varience so hard to code (cut scene stuff, pre match or at the end or at half time)?! i dont get it. i gave 2 simple examples of wich i cant think they coudnt be programmed.

There's no ball boys on the PS4 version, and sometimes the players collect the ball (like they do on 2021) and other times they just awkwardly stand there for 10 seconds until the screen fades and ports them into a throw in position. I think they're trying to pick the ball up but can't locate it hence the freeze.

I miss how in PES 6 on Xbox 360 there was no fade to black when the ball went out of play it was an instant jump cut to the throw in.

Seamless animations are nice for the first few times you see them but after a while they become a real inconvenience when you want to get back into the game.

As much as I disagree, it's nice to see positivity, and I hope those who disagree can respectfully disagree. Positivity is permitted here, after all.

That being said - I'll bet you £5. :D

Of course, it's going to be impossible to adjudicate as to who the winner is. The final game will obviously look different and probably play a little different to this beta, so that will be enough for DerRobin to claim he wins. But it will almost certainly also be apparent that it is the same game, simply made to look nicer and play a little different, so Chris wins. You may as well give each other £5 now.

Unless, of course, Konami do unveil a completely and obviously different new game on 15th July, although if that happens, we'll all be too distracted by the flying pigs to notice.

I was joking! There's obviously no bet to make, because you can't quantify the changes. One man's trash is another man's treasure. There are people on Twitter playing the alpha/beta/gamma/mobile version/early version/test package/whatever you want to call it, and absolutely loving it.

Yeah, I know. I was was really just making the point that even when the game is unveiled, there will be those to whom it's obvious that it's the same game as the beta, tarted up, but there will be those, upon seeing the dazzling gfx of the final game, will be adamant that it's proof that it's a completely different product to the beta. This argument will never be resolved.

Yes I think, it`s the mobile game, as a console port, because they can test the servers and in the same time, continue developing on the real game. The Graphics, the whole game we saw there wasn`t what we will receive in the end. I won`t say that it will be the best game ever or that it will look 100% of the 2020 teaser, but it will defenitly look much better than this. I won`t asume that the gameplay will change much, but the presentation, atmosphere and so on, will be a lot better. Just wait. :) @janguv

I think you've flummoxed yourself dude, there is no "if you are right" scenario, you are basically just agreeing with everyone else. No one thinks this is the "game we are going to get" or that the graphics won't improve. :BORED: I don't want to "go back to PES 2019-2021" because I don't like those games, I don't like any recent football games, and you are saying that the gameplay likely won't change that much and this is the issue people had in the first place, you are just confirming what the "critics" have been saying all along. Also these "just be patient, wait for the announcement" platitudes people come out with do not make you some kind of wise old sage, none of us are recommending storming Konami HQ we are just speculating on what is the most likely outcome in order to have a reasonable level of expectation.

(Sorry for the roast, nothing personal but just seeing this kind of argument all over the place, especially on Twitter)

Speak for yourself mate. I'm trying to get this going, over in Windsor:

I wouldn’t worry about visual quality for the final release, I would believe Epic Games will provide additional support if needed, no way a game that is marketed around “Photorealism” with Unreal Engine will look bad.

And there are visual improvements in the current online test, look at the better facial expressions, even when using same face assets (in theory) from Fox Engine, players don’t look creepy anymore.

Anyway, I don’t mind a delay to late October/early November if the devs need it. I don’t want another PES 14 release.

When they release this, then we'll know it's an entirely different game.

When I posted that link yesterday, I was partly being facetious in suggesting that it's the best football game I've played in years but in reality, I've been playing it for hours over the past day or so. It's simple fun with addictive gameplay, something that EA and Konami have lost sight of. (And it does actually require a little more skill and strategy than first meets the eye).

It's also a game that is, in a way, a fairly similar concept to Rocket League, which is a game that's never previously appealed to me, but this makes me realise why so many people still play it.

Incidentally, this version of the game has a knock-out World Cup format - https://www.miniclip.com/games/soccer-physics

Unreal is like any other engine, it comes down to how capable the people working on it are.

This in Unreal.

This is also Unreal.

You're right, but 90% of games made with UE look great and naturally people expect great visuals. Also, KONAMI itself said "we're going to make a photorealistic game" so it's not unusual for people to expect great visuals.

Also, I happen to not believe they are going to make a photorealistic game. Good old Konami. Good old PR. Good old marketing shit. Goold old business. Gold old akndosbhgjfgafgdfg

Also, if we are talking about Unreal Engine, can anyone with good eyes for graphics and animations confirm is this online beta is UE4 or UE5 ... my guess is UE4, I think UE5 would have much better animations

It's highly unlikely to be UE5 given that an early release version for devs was only released recently, iirc. Konami are not new to UE4 and will be reusing stuff from the mobile game to an extent (it's why everyone's saying it's a mobile game on Twitter etc lol). They'll convert stuff across for UE5 eventually, but this will be UE4, I would have thought. There's at least no sign of things like Lumen involved at the moment.

Had a first match. The lag was pretty decent compared to most games i've played online with PES2021. Its difficult to critique anything at this point in time but overall you get the feeling the gameplay will be more FIFA-ish and bit less arcade. Not sure if this will turn out to be a good thing, keep to your strengths i would say. Then again, for now ill keep confident they can strike a balance and will not mess up the fundamentals that set PES apart. Especially that feeling of flow when you feel in total control over your players as long as you are aware of and respect and micromanage the exact timings, player skills and player positions.

People still play this mobile port to death?
Probably its 2022 on mobile. The only question we should be asking how similar is 2021 on mobile and on console. Because if its very similar this demo is indeed a very very bad sign.

It's not the mobile game. Dunno how much more this needs saying.

Today the official PES Twitter account publicised the beta, announcing it was a limited test and that all elements (gameplay, graphics, etc.) would be "changed and improved" for release. It makes little sense to suppose at this point the beta is anything other than an early build of the next main PES game, whatever it's called.
