eFootball (All Platforms)

I think they ditched the Mobile crossplay idea and noe crossplay will onky be for console versions.

Game is built for PS4/XBONE eith PC and new gen PS5/XBONE NEW whatever its called are simply graphical cosmetic upgrades. Crossplay isnt ready yet if im not mistaken
I'd be very surprised if they actually ditched it. Shelved, perhaps, because their "roadmap" was in tatters after they released a buggy pile of wank to the public and called it a game.

I don't think we really have evidence it was "built for" last gen consoles either. I mean, didn't PS4 users get horrendous lag initially? It was certainly not optimised for those consoles.

The game on mobile, from footage I've seen, looks very similar and it was clearly designed so that graphical elements would be scalable while gameplay elements were consistent. They wouldn't have even been able to flirt with the idea of crossplay with mobile if that weren't the case. So it makes sense to me that the lowest common denominator point still applies – in which case, the game is still "built for" mobile as much as anything and as a baseline.

there arent cheaters!!! how someone would cheat???

They may take necessary measures. Users breach the TOU, and the response from Konami is in ambiguity. So other words, they ain't doing shit about it. Users cheat all the time in online PVP, and the so called geniuses at Coinami never thought to create a system in the game to either catch or prevent cheaters? You build a game around online PVP, and you don't even have a anti-cheat system in place. Wonderful. We are almost a year into this game's release, and we're only getting this message now. If only the folks at Coinami had HALF of Capcom's brain power, they'd be better off.

Of course not, probably they picked the few highest ranked ones but cant manage ALL.

ps i thought i went blind, thanks for the joke.

Game is much more playable now, for sure, but I miss this fluidity in animations back in 0.9 version...

Now efootball plays better but looks rigid, stiff and robotic.

honestly I think if this game had offline Master League, Online Friendlies vs Friends, Option Files, 3 and 4 Star events or filters, Co-op, and lobbies online.. it would be considered by more than a few the best football game of all time. I have played them all since the start of time...

one thing I know for certain is this is Konami's best online footie game ever made. that's without question. I use to always say how bad their online servers and network infrastructure was. It was always seemed like they were at least 5 years behind FIFA Online. Now konami do have the best 1v1 online footie game.

This passage of play from 1:47-1:57

Stuff like this just makes me facepalm. How do people think it looks good?
  • That weird backheel pass with so much power;
  • the shocking touch to lose the ball; the comical slide/foul that isn't given, with both players on their arses;
  • the other midfielder completely unaware with play and running away from the tackle;
  • then the same midfielder standing motionless with no urgency and only running back as the attack unfolds.
So much BS in one short passage of play – I don't know how you could celebrate scoring after that.

  • That weird backheel pass with so much power;

Not even sure if the backheel was that bad or it just looks disconnected with the weak pea roller of a pass that preceded it, something is still completely screwed with the ball physics and the lack of self-awareness of people that post this stuff as if it was a knock down argument for how good the game is bewildering. By the way there must be about 3 shot animations/trajectories in the entire game because I've seen the exact same finish more times than I care to remember. There is nothing visually appealing about this game, it doesn't look next-gen in the slightest, it doesn't entice me to play it even if there are some decent mechanics buried in there. Even if they now have free rein to leave the shackles of mobile crossplay behind (why am I skeptical) the game still very much bears the stamp of its lowly origin (to borrow a phrase). And being the best online PES game is not exactly an earthshattering accomplishment, I mean just getting through a single game without lag pretty much immediately makes it the best online PES game ever (granted this is quite an achievment by Konami's standards).

eFootball 2023 is a better offline experience, on the pitch, than plenty of Fox Engine PES installments.

Of course, these are my impressions from playing it for a little while, so my perspective on the whole thing could change as I play more of it, but for now I stand by my statement... and I need to emphasize that I'm talking exclusively about how it is on the pitch, which to me is the most important aspect of a football video game... but not the only one. I feel this is where Konami is seriously dropping the ball, especially with offline players. In the past few months they've been able to take something that was downright broken at launch and turn it into a worthy PES installment in its playability. I just wish there was more to do here with said playability... I loved playing leagues and cups with my dad, and it's still not in it, it's not even something complex like Master League or Become A Legend, just basic leagues and cups, something Winning Eleven installments on PS1 had! I'm sure PvP players are enjoying their time with eFootball 2023, because Dream Team is sort of fun so far, and you get so much GP that there's not even a real need to spend money on it, which I appreciate, but forgetting the entire offline fan base, which turned Winning Eleven/PES into what it was, just feels so wrong, it's been a year already...

Now, on a more positive note, Konami keep impressing me on the pitch, which is what matters most really, they've stuck by their idea of making a simulation that feels like football, I'm even getting a lot more fouls that any Fox Engine PES against the CPU! All players feel like they have true weight to them, momentum plays a key role in your movement and decision making, there's a lot of nuance to its realism and mechanics, they've done a good job, it plays well, it flows well. I'd rather play this than something like PES 2018 and PES 2015, perhaps I'd take this even over my beloved PES 2012, they've really impressed me here. All I want now is for them to keep going in this direction while polishing it up, and introducing offline modes... also they need to change the UI/HUD as soon as possible, I though that going from eFootball 2022 to eFootball 2023 would mean a new UI/HUD but those awful colors and shapes are still there, it's such an eye sore... another small issue I have is with the club I support, the kits have been updated, but they were lazy yet again and gave the home and away kits the same pair of shorts and socks, it feels so amateurish, if you have the license to a club then respect it and actually try, please.

I feel like we could have something special here... when eFootball 2024 comes out, they've been too slow.

Has KONAMI posted a similar updated roadmap somewhere? The above looks like a nightmare.

The game against the CPU is so much fun to play... In my opinion, much more enjoyable than the game in PES 2021, even with the current problems.
By the way, it's interesting how many players have decided to play and buy coins in the current modes because the game has no offline modes. Certainly not me, I just play trials from time to time and the lack of offline modes does not encourage me to do so.

I dare say I could enjoy the game with the AI / variety it has. But I just can't stomach the ball physics, and it seems too deeply embedded to change without having to make a whole new game. They are, as far as I'm concerned, more basic (and less realistic) than ever. The ball moves and "feels" like a beachball.

There's just no momentum in the ball physics, there's no magnitude - there's no power transfer between foot and ball (no fast acceleration from a hard kick that slows gently with gravity and then with the friction of the grass). There's just the same constant velocity in every kick - exactly like it is in FIFA now (presumably for the purposes of "playablity" - the more "constants" the better and fairer for eSports play, and it helps if every single pass is successful).

It's funny how so many gameplay elements of new football games (including eFootball, but without doubt "the other game" is the biggest offender) are taking huge steps backwards to the PS1-PS2 era, because "eSports tho" and "it's just a game".

In the PS3 era, engines were growing to become more complex, and less predictable, including ball physics - where passes/shots had 10+ different factors that impacted the ball (angle of the foot, spin on the ball, the player's passing attributes, the player's mental attributes if he was under pressure from defenders, even the length of the grass)...

That all has so little (if any) importance now - cos the YouTubers will say "I pressed pass, why didn't it work - it's fucking scripting, this game's shit". So what happens? The games get dumber and dumber.

If someone tackles and the ball rolls free, there is uproar that "a game is just a game" and the ball should ignore physics and stop so that the tackler can run off with the ball. None of this is exaggeration; EA have spoken freely about doing this to the game for playability's sake.

When I use FIFA modding tools on PC and see the gameplay variables there used to be, all of which have been abandoned to make the most "streamlined" and "constant" experience possible... I could cry.

I keep reading Hyperbole like “this could be the best football game ever”.

No, just no. Everyone is desperate for a good football game because FIFA has been rough for years and we’re looking for any crumb of comfort we can find.

Excusing the lack of single player content, eFooty 2022/3 has pretty bad ball physics and a laughably simplistic shooting system.

Best football game ever is a hell of a stretch :LOL:

The lack of power transfer between the foot and the ball has been there since they introduced the 360 movement. Its looks so BAD its offputting. The player whacks the ball for a pass and the ball just rolls to the nearby player. I dont know why but passing and shooting in pes 6 still feels satisfactory and fun than modern pes to this day (personally speaking). There was a time when the release of pes 3 would make you not play pes 2 because the new release would make the older games redundant and archaic, and the release of pes 4 would do the same to pes 3 and so on (till PES peaked with pes 5 and 6).

Now, guys like me would scramble back and forth to pes 5/6 15 13 (and so on) in search of that one game because the modern pes are just a dark void.

Edit: Im not saying efootball is a wreck, i do enjoy it for what it is and i've learned the new ways, but it just doesnt surpass its own 20 year old legacy.

I mean there are certainly things about eFootball that do feel cheap compared to the Fox games such as ball physics, net physics and turf (which has always been a weakness of PES forever) but I can still tolerate these if the game just wasn't such a... Prototype.

It's nothing that hasn't been said before but it's just so baffling that this game is on the market as a full fledged release, a year on and there are still many single player options inexplicably greyed out such as match Time, difficulty & even weather. We have to use one lousy tacky ball.

It reminds me of that tunnel in Shoreside Vale in GTA 3 that remains under construction forever 😂

Is eFootball fated to have these basic general settings "under construction" forever, only to be never intended on being implemented?

I feel bad complimenting a defective game from a publisher who does not care about us. For this reason, I have rated the game negative on Steam, arguing of course why.

For some, or likely no reason, you can switch balls in Dream Team. There are some really nice ones as well. Think that's literally the only thing you can change lol

You are right - in that you are actually wrong 😄 Just Konami Stadium and Nighttime for Dream Team. It's the Konami way: Why make sense when you can just make random BS?
I played division just now and i'm able to change stadium and choose btwn summer or winter. Is it just me? Or division is not a dream team mode? I dunno i rarely play online

Had to open this video cause I thought it was some kind of bait.

If even somebody like this guy, who was always praises and rainbows as far as I remember, talks about the game in this terms..

In the same time, he's not a reference. Like the OP defending, i don't feel it.
Even got a little harder than PES 15 to 21... But offline.

Perhaps it's an online thing, or OP on everything (including defense) when you got super rated players.

Ball physics like Chris explained with way better words than i did but just wanted to explain exactly the same (hard in english to me), that's the biggest problem of that game. The rest could be balanced/re-balanced.
That one seems a bigger problem as it's linked to the core.

-On PES Fox the issue wasn't the weight transfers and all, personally i didn't felt that much that it was a problem : but the lack of variety in ball movement : the ball too straight. Lesser and lesser until PES 2021 (like it or not, that's obvious, more deflections and curves on everything)
Also i don't agree about PES 2013 comparison, perhaps 2011 and PES 3 to 6 but not that one. The ball feels also weightless aswell as the players. No feeling of power at all.
