eFootball (All Platforms)

For me that is just pure gatekeeping. Why keep players who maybe can't afford consoles from playing a football game?

Also the problem is not that there is a PES Mobile Game. Fifa has a Mobile Game and still has a Console game with Career Mode and so on.

I think 2 things are happening at the moment:

1. Konami is focusing on the Online Crowd and that's pissing the old guard of (understandable)

2. Since they announced they want Cross Play and use a similar Engine people have gone a bit crazy with the "it's a Mobile Game" argument. Anything negative is now attested to PES having a Mobile Port. Nevermind that the Mobile Port is not even out right now. Still people try to put every problem the game has on the Mobile Port. Which for me is kinda the wrong argument.

First of all there are some things on efootball that can't be done on Mobile yet and second even if they have a Mobile Port it doesn't have to influence the main game. So the focus should really just be what they can improve on PC and Console with good arguments instead of blaming the Mobile Crowd or the Mobile Port. Let's focus on getting Konami to make the best Console and PC version with good arguments and examples.

"We started planning this move roughly two years ago to coincide with the console generation transition and changes in the market environment," he tells us, before explaining that PES Mobile's huge success acted as a blueprint for the wider shift. "I believe that we have already proven that this structure can be successful on mobile. By applying the same model across all platforms, we hope that more football fans will be able to play this game on consoles as well."

IGN - Behind the PES Series' Unprecedented Transformation Into eFootball

Their shift was no accident.

They have been open about the change from PES to eFootball being all about crossplay and "simplifying" development from day one. If you have crossplay, you have to have a game that an average spec, majority-owned mobile phone can run. All the Xbox Series X and any $2000 PC out there can do "extra" is some nicer graphics, unless they make 2-3 different code bases (and make 2-3 communities to keep happy in the process), and the entire point of this switch is so that they don't have to do that. They have downsized the game dev team. All of this is because of the mobile focus.

If that's not enough, and the reports that they are moving away from expensive game development isn't enough, just look at what they have done this to all their other franchises. Why spend time and money to make AAA console releases that don't sell because you've got no licenses, when you can give away a free game that hooks you and encourages even the most ardent of us to spend money.

Why sell a $60 game to 1m people when you can make it free, get 1bn downloads (actual figure from Konami, referring to PES), and make an average of $1 from all of them. That's a LOT more money. And Konami are a business, as much as we fantasise that they care about the quality of their product. They don't.

The featured players aren't even stronger than the standard ones. They only have 6-7 levels and in fact if you take the same standard player, you not only can develop them the way you want, but even if you increase the exact same stats as the featured one, they end up stronger!

This is how it should be!

Obviously they hop;e people don't realise theyre same-ish / a little bit worse in some stats at the beginning.
They want to keep this going for the long haul, so the ladders of getting better and better featured players 100% WILL happen.

But yeah, for the time being. they will try to get your money with ''worse'' players for a while

I assume it's motivated by anger, but I'm surprised by the ongoing lack of acceptance for Konami's new direction.

While I'm not happy about it, I've smashed through the final stage of grief and I'm all the better for it.

It's over, lads. She's moved on.

Let's not forget, Coinami have been pretty awful marketing PES. For example - last year, I remember asking myself, why didn't they bother to get UEFA to do some sort of Summer marketing campaign for PES 21 when the game is carrying the official UEFA Euro 2020/2021 license? It was a good mode. It had all these licensed kits for the national teams and stadiums, and they were even updating the kits as early as last year. When EA were making standalone FIFA world cup games, even if you were a casual gamer, they made sure you knew about it.

All these years they have been around, they could have done so many things in the game and outside of out to overcompensate for the lack of licenses.

They tweeted four times throughout the entire tournament:

All the evidence you need. EA/FIFA tweeted about it more, utilising the licenced teams they had.

If that's the best Coinami can do, it only furthers my point about the frailties in their marketing department.

Just give us decent licences, branding scoreboards, offline modes like league and cup mode and I'll pay 19.99 for it
Why unlocking all the teams in friendly offline? Imagine if we have to pay for the game we basically already have thanks to the unlocker
   👍

Agreed about the gatekeeping point. I don't see why they shouldn't have a mobile game at all. (Though I do think it shouldn't have gambling elements in it.)

Re the extent to which the game is a mobile crossover, as Chris pointed out, you do have a lowest common denominator problem here. That's most likely why the ball physics in particular seem to have taken a backwards step.

And it's not clear, but I do wonder if the increased 1-on-1 obsession, the duel camera, the ball-oriented switching – all benefit a mobile player with limited screen "real estate" (as tech people are so fond of horribly saying, for some reason).

The UX of course is designed with mobile in mind, and that intrudes on the console user as well – confirmatory boxes that pop up to block the whole screen (which online users are exploiting now by pausing and unpausing while you're in the game plan). Game plans with just one team on them. Etc.

And the addition of team press after the backlash at first looked somewhat innovative, and then I saw a clip of how it works in PES mobile. Look familiar?

Hi
Do you easily execute stunning shot or pass?
I'm playing on ps4, and succeeded only two times. For me very hard to do it

I feel like i don't really understand what's going on in dream team mode. why do i get points or XP to boost my players? so if i play against someone with default players technically they could all be boosted to a max level which is as good as other real players? what's the point in that or am i getting it wrong?

played a few more matches in the event mode to get away from the nonsense that is dream team. thought the USL championship would be good as all the teams are average so nobody can cheese you with great teams. problem number 1 i find is that you can't see what the teams squad is like before you select one so you have no idea of the types of players they have, the tactics they use etc until you get into a matchup and have 2 minutes in the game plan to fix everything incuding having a player rated at 45 as your CF... why?

draw the first game 1-1 with PA4 and it's still just ridiculous so to give myself a chance i go to PA3 for the next match, well, the players seem more responsive thanks to the targetting of the passing but it's like the old PES where the gap between manual and the lowest level of assistance is too great to the point where the AI will laser guide your pass somewhere rather than it just go where you want it to.

i'm also having doubts over the match up defending, it basically just seems to be a free pass to commit a foul without it getting called by the ref. in fact it seems that fouls can only be caused from slide tackles or by double pressing square so a lot of the action of the game is a lot of players colliding and stumbling about and having terrible touches, which i'm sure seems a lot better with the elite players but not with USL championship jobbers.

I will complete this USL challenge but i can't see me sticking with the game. for an old offline fuddy duddy like me dream team is a purely nonsensical game mode and in general navigating the UI is more of a challenge than the gameplay. I do think (unless i simply haven't played anyone half decent yet) that the challenge against another player online is far better than on older games, but the gameplay is 100% simplifed and simply 'okay' at best.

good luck to anyone that is enjoying this, but if you are enjoying dream team then you're probably not the sort of person who's opinion on PES i value, i know that seems rude or harsh but this game has declined because of this game mode and it's predecessor and you've basically ruined PES for me so i think we're even

How good they are depends on how those XPs are utilized.
Of course if someone has Viera and still can develope him, he couldnt go that much wrong but yeah you can screw up a 17 yrs old midfielder who has high potential and only ratings in the 60s OR you can develope a very decent to great player.
Also important to consider the team style, where you can distribute these to so the player could fit in a or multiple style of play. Or none if you want to go only for stat development.

This also has a risk and reward factor in it. I already maxed out a DMF who is really decent anchor but only can play possession and decent in quick counter but since he maxed out i cant develop him to be aligned to other playstyles. Kinda cool imo.

What's your point? This sort of press is a much better solution than the OP shit from PES21. Just because it's mobile, it's bad? There are a lot of good game mechanics in mobile games, shocking isn't it?

Also still ignoring the fact that the producer himself said that if you activate mobile crossplay you will have to play with mobile gameplay (downgraded) - which will be different to next gen gameplay. That's why it's optional. So no, next gen gameplay is not a common denominator with mobile.

feels a bit heartless and soulless like an MMO or an RPG. multiple types of XP that can be used to max out different things, just not realistic and not what i'm looking for. thanks for confirming, i'm deffo out then

Yes its surely something like that. Its not a true footballing experience in that regard, not even close to Master League (and even thats pretty basic). But at least its not that shallow like FUT, it takes a bit of time thinking. Myself i loved Pro Clubs in Fifa, at least the idea, so this is kinda like that but better imo in terms of the RPG elements. Just whish efootball would have Pro Clubs feature with this AI.

Source on that? Pretty sure it was not Kimura that said this, but the Reddit larper.

I wouldn't call the team press solution "good" at present. It's rather chaotic and feels like a slapdash solution quickly plastered onto a game that put all its eggs previously into the 1on1 basket.

But my point wasn't about whether it was good or not; just that it's clear to see the overlap with the mobile game (the present mobile game, not the unreleased one) is there – which supports the idea that this game is inspired by the mobile game (which is what the post I was responding to was denying, more or less).

What's happened here is you've jumped into a discussion with your "Yeah? And what?!", and now look a bit (more) silly really. As I said before, this sort of mishap derives from your compulsion to defend the game at all costs.

Please don't put words in my mouth that I never said. I didn't deny anything I just said blaming every problem on the Mobile Port is the wrong approach and to quote myself: even if they have a Mobile Port it doesn't have to influence the main game.

Now I am not an English first speaker but for me my sentence just says: that they don't have to take the road of taking over things from the Mobile game. Now are they doing some things because of it? Yeah, but I never denied it. My argument is: let's not focus on them having a Mobile Port but to make arguments what they should improve on console no matter what they do for the Mobile game.

I could now use your sentence of: "that sort of mishap happens"...yadda yadda, but instead just for the next time don't say things that I never said.

Looks like a Konami bot malfunctioned. Just stick to simple lines like "I can't wait for Master League to launch"
