Yep this was also part of my review, and not just once this happens, you can exploit it heavily everytime when in such situations.
There are millions of problems with the gameplay after playing for hours the past couple of days.
Also for online play, It really depends on who is the host in this pseudo Peer 2 Peer system on how the gameplay reacts aswell. Not that I have any problems anyway, but when not the ''host'' even though your buttons are still as responsive as they are, the players on the pitch really have a harder time knowing where the ball is. Allthough im used to adapting to the lag, its a fun way of seeing a different kind of lag, and it is better then the button delay lag on the last generation PES games I guess, but it makes this already flawed simplified gameplay even more wonky and funny to look at.
And I still think putting a timing game on a Trigger button is the worst thing i've seen in terms of button layout. I never ever saw a timing game on an analog trigger button. The stunning modifier therefore doesnt work half the time for me on PC, It depends a bit on the controller, how my travel is set of my trigger. Losing a lot of freedom there.
Its hilarious when animations kick in randomly where they shouldnt aswell, or seeing how on rails this game is when the nicely railed connection from player to ball gets broken and the game is pinging the player to re-allocate the ball making some players go into overdrive sliding into the same animation 5 times in a row. Cant even super cancel to the ball as a loose entity to override the game... as it is that much on rails.
Oh and the shooting....Man... Having 7-0 games online in event mode one after another today and not a single goal feels nice. Trajectories are bland, the wind up of a shot feels fabricated. The normal quick shooting while you dont even have your body in the right balance or in place feels laser targeted.
The game has an extreme amount of extra video game sauce on it, not a sim in my book and what i expect of a football to the simulation side. Having more fun ''off the pitch'' myself, and taking on the pitch for what is is. You get some video game mechanics to emulate football a bit on the basic side, you can pass around and the inner workings of marking and all that jazz is in. But without ball simulations or even player momentum, foot planting, inertia
All in all, it feels super simplified. It does make for a better videogame for casual audience as well. But the little details I love about pes, The joy of shooting PES5 gave me while i was full on into FIFA 2006 was a world of difference and kept making the difference... That... Is non existent at this moment.
Maybe I will not get the type of football depth I want simulated back for a while in the football gaming scape with UFL and GOALS coming out aswell looking to do the same ultimate team-y thing. They all seem to want to emulate the same space of type of game.
To me this aint 1.0, this is 0.1. Because atleast, the basics work.... And thats nice for a Live Service game like Forntnite, Rocket League, Warzone etc which puts updates out every month. But will Konami? Lets hope!
