eFootball (All Platforms)

Slightly offtopic. I have thousands of times posted about yu-gi-oh and its golden-egg-chicken treatment by KONAMI.

Of course nobody cares, cause not interested in Trading Card Games, and underestimate Yugioh as a child's game.

But the latest actions of KONAMI on game, showcase really clear what's their plan .

Back in 2004, we used to say,"in the future (2020) we will be playing with holograms like the anime.

What KONAMI brings in 2022? A Yu-gi-oh LITE game, with lootbox add-ons and microtransactions, a Casino LITE basically, in the disguisee of yu-gioh. No more RPG games, no more Story Mode since 2011, no more strong single player modes. Only PvP ranked duels and microtrans.

On top of that, as in the previous game, Legacy of the Duelist, they released the same game two times, for money, first the OG game, than the SAME GAME with a major Update though, but in a full price, (DO YOU SEE Similarities with PES 2020 and 2021 Season Update ? ) and now they release the latest game, typically as a service, in all platforms, from PS5/XboxX to iOS/Android.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel
Original release date(s):[89]
TBA
Release years by system:
TBA—Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC (Steam), iOS, Android
Notes:
  • Published and developed by Konami.

For those have hopes about e-Football, to have some better fate, i doubt so. Believe it or not Yu-gi-oh, is a bigger franchise than PES, bigger playerbase, bigger income, cause it has the physical cards game, the mobile DUel links, the previous console/PC releases.

As a prospect it is financially hotter and with bigger potential than PES. Despite this it is just milked for money..

So for those expecting a better e-Football "next Spring", i honestly wish you a better luck than Yu-gi-oh.

I genuinely don't understand why people think single player is going to drastically improve, Konami openly said in an interview single player modes were not their focus. That's not to say single player modes wont be available but you can probably guarantee the AI will be one dimensional like 21. Which stands out like a sore thumb when you see the AI variation and shape on next gen FIFA

I would even be happy if they dont release next version until august/sept ... It would mean at least they worked on it. That is offcourse unless all the work goes into microtransactions, player cards, cross-gen, NFT etc etc ....

I think KONAMI is stupid and gready enough they will go with second option, and that will be the end of PES.

Knowing how Konami operates, they'll probably view the diminishing player base for this game as an indicator to push even more online multiplayer content and loot boxes to get them reinvested in this sorry excuse of a game.

Unfortunately it doesn't mean they've worked on anything. Look at the 2-year gap from PES2020 to eFootball2022. Finished PES2021 was basically PES2020 with a dozen hotfix patches applied and roster updates. eFootball2022 has been out for 4 months and still nothing.

Weird to say this, but honest opinion, the gameplay is quite rewarding, but the initial weeks of getting through the learning curve was very painful. I hated it in my first couple weeks too. I only started liking it like a month into it, a few games a day

Fluidity seems like an issue, but once u understand how to manage the animations, it becomes silky, a lot of things u can do on the ball and off the ball now, with the new controls and gameplay

If u can live through the initial weeks, you'll find something worthwhile

I may make a video of it a bit later (full manual, ball control, defending, buildup etc) when I have enough material

No idea about AI and offline tho

I agree, still a lot of issues (like previous chapters anyway) but also many things improved

I agree too (offline player), a lot more freedom than PES 2021
However, scripting is already immense (conceding goals in min6, min12 all the time) etc.

Yes at top player and superstar it has the same issues as always. But playing full manual this year professional level is playable, not so dumb. Are you on pc or other platforms?

I gave eFootball another shot after not playing it for some time, overall I have more positive feelings now than at its launch, though it's still negative.

Still, there are positives, and here are mine:
+ As usual with PES, having the ball feels good, passing it around through the ground or air, I like having possession and making plays.
+ An attempt at a more manual defending system was long overdue, and it's decent here, flawed, yes, but better than any of their previous attempts for sure.
+ Players have weight, I do find it excessive, but I prefer this to players feeling too light, still, it could be tweaked and improved, still decent though.
+ You're punished for sprinting too much, your players are less responsive when sprinting and it's easy to run more than you'd have wanted.
+ Passing error is more common when playing with assists, which makes for a richer experience overall, more like the actual sport.
+ Player models aren't the best, but their anatomy is sleeker and better than the chubby players with baggy kits in PES2021.
+ Turfs still don't compare to PES2019, but at night it's not toxic looking like PES2021, so another improvement.
+ I feel like there are more animations on the defending side of things, which is welcome and shows that their focus isn't just on attacking football.
+ I like the UI when selecting teams and kits, it's immersive and just needs more polish to become really good.
+ CPU is more competent at keeping its defensive shape and tackling more aggressively from different angles and situations.
+ I like the circle and arrow around the players, I know many don't, but it's possible to turn it off, so it's fine, and it reminds me of ISS on the N64.

Now, for the negatives, I feel that many of these are well known enough here, but it's important to keep them in mind so they can be better:
- While I like the lesser responsiveness when sprinting, it's too unresponsive when you're not sprinting, which doesn't make sense, it should be quicker.
- UI looks dreadful for the most part, the colors chosen are an eyesore and it just looks like a bad mobile game at almost all times, which is inexcusable.
- L2/LT still goes against the manual defending concept they're going for, it should be removed until they properly sort it out in future updates.
- I'm still getting crashes sometimes, more than any other game on my PS4, I'm not sure how it is for the other versions, but again it's inexcusable.
- Launch was 4 months ago and it still has less content than ISS for the SNES, it feels like a demo, a beta, which makes me a beta tester with no salary.
- When playing offline you still only have a few clubs, this made sense for PES Lite, but with the new F2P model it makes no sense to do this.
- Still only a couple of difficulty settings, no weather conditions, few stadiums, you can only play 5 minutes against the CPU, again, it makes no sense.
- Sometimes textures looks blurry as they're still loading, and then after a few seconds they load properly, it looks amateurish.
- Graphics are mediocre, I like the anatomy and colors, but overall it looks like PS3/XBOX360, with textures not only loading slow, but being mediocre.
- You pretty much can't intercept passes at all without holding X/A, I know they wanted defending to be manual, and I like that, but this can be too much.
- The lack of responsiveness and excessive weight can make possession feel less fluid than in previous releases, it's a good direction, but needs tweaking.

Overall the situation is still dire, I'm happy to see here that many are enjoying eFootball, and more power to you, but to me there's just too much wrong with it to make it enjoyable, mostly because most of what it gets right was either already in PES2021, or was done better in previous PES titles anyway. I wish they'd have just made a PES2022 using PES2021 as the base, like they usually do for yearly releases, and then tried to add things like the manual defending, realistic anatomy and other features on top of PES2021, it would've been somewhat underwhelming I guess, but it'd have been better than what we got. I'm seeing eFootball 2022 in almost every single "Worst Games Of 2021" list there is, I didn't see this happen with PES2008 or PES2014, this is literally a new low which I don't know if they can recover from, because at least with previous PES titles with a poor launch they still had the name as a safety net in a way, but now they ditched the PES name, all the reputation eFootball has is from the disaster launch, and now I'm seeing former PES partners joining UFL, a newcomer which hasn't even released yet, I can't shake off the feeling that it's already too late, and maybe it's better this way.
