eFootball (All Platforms)

I moved to the other side. It's a massive learning curve after so many years away and still has some FIFA issues but it plays a proper game and feels next gen. It clicked when I used Thiago to make a slide rule strong pass (R1+x) to take out the Man City defense and put Salah through 35 yards from goal. It's the kind of pass you couldn't really pull off in Fifa before (and if you could, would look really contrived) .. but was a staple of PES (especially in manual). This time, the weight of the pass felt perfect, and Salah's touch was perfect, which resulted in a desperate lunge from Cancelo to stop him. That foul also felt very human and realistic - a hallmark of Pep's tactical snidey fouls even😂. I think I've found my football fix that's surprisingly decent and not a coping mechanism from the demise of PES. 😂
Are you playing FIFA 22 on PC or console?

my worry and bad feel on the unreal engine for footy game still stands (posted very early when news hit back then)

:SS posted july, the part in ( ) i cannot find in this thread, must be some old thread before we even had gameplay

L2 is a shielding when attacking, but when defending it is a keystone cop chase a motherfucker down and dispossess him button. You can literally defend by holding L2 at all times and not touch any other button. Not even the directional buttons.

i still remember how baffled i was playing pes 2014, the shielding was OP, konami does not know how to implement this, i do not like it on fifa either, from the few demos i tried over the years, it feels redundant and unnecessary to me

They focused in create a new control system that allow the player to have total control of the actions a football player can perform on the pitch.

oh come on, this is impossible to implement no matter what, i never liked analogue controls, illusion of control, a few milimeters on the stick does just not translate well into the game, dont get me started on the sprint, this is not a racing game, maybe skating game at best :D

its d/l now so i guess ill find out myself

I came home and decided to really try to get used to it, 2 trash games on regular i decided to try superstar.

I'm not playing this game again until another patch comes out.

I'm out for now. We have a serious, serious problem with playing vs the AI

They take out second defender press for me but the AI can use 2-3 players to press you, how the fuck is that fair?

Total waste of 3 hours, i got used to the dribbling, defending and there's a good game in there in parts but its a true fucking shambless.

Not going to go into the huge amount of bugs, only there's less bugs on superstar compared to regular where its literally a 1/10 game. On superstar its 3.5/10

Konami fucked up

Pressing seems like it's tied to tactics now and possibly the defensive engagement attribute now(maybe?) , Possesion and Quick Counter teams will automatically press you after they lose the ball now. It's strange I really hope this isn't all there is for tactics and formations.

They have yes and personally I don't mind it.

It was just too much and too easy to apply crazy constant pressure in the previous PES using this feature.
Well that's not ok, imo.

I play against AI on superstar and guess what they let AI use 2 & 3 defender against me. It's just too stupid, 2nd man press was never a problem to begin with.

This was such a painful experience. Towards the end of the video I do get on my soapbox a bit because, as we've discussed here on Evo before, how much PES has meant over the years. For me, it kept me alive, it was my world - it's how I found Evo (before that SG), and to see it in this state...it breaks my heart.

if konami has any decency it will put this game out all of the stores.
the audacity to ask for 40E for a pay-to-win pack
incredible!

I am now 70+ multiplayer matches in with only 2 lost.
The amount of control (or no control if you suck) there is, is just next level! Never have I had so much control over every aspect of a player's behavior.
You guys should play 10+ matches while trying to play it like a new game instead of PES. Because it's eFootball now and everything has changed!

People who just hold sprint get punished with 5+ goals against them. People who don't know how to defend with match-up and physical tackle will get many goals against them. People who only ping-pong pass or don't know how to shield/dribble will never even touch the inside of the box.

This is peak football.

For me Konami only needs to fix the bugs, improve the graphics and performance and the game is perfect.

Totally agree with this. This game has so much potencial, its incredible.

For me is clear we have right now an unfinished product, full of bugs, rushed… etc.

But, one thing i can’t cope with at all, are the replays and menus that look dogshit.

On the field tho, when no bugs, it plays a beautiful realistic football, miles away from the robotic gameplay of Fifa.

Yes, if you play it like previous games, it will be a shitshow on the field. We need to relearn and adapt to almost every aspect. The way you lose control of the ball when you try to dribble but you fail.. it is incredibly realistic and i love it.

Now, after playing it on PS5, i truly believe there’s a real gem inside. It just needs polished, ALOT!

The Funniest most Stupid and Lazy thing must be however their so called Training mode..
Like you think , ok iam gonna lern this game now .. but what does konami?
Show you a vid of some useless iniesta stuff instead of a full Training mode haha.
This is Masterclass !

This company does not listen to their fans. They don't engage with us and don't want us on board like other bigger companies and games do

Oh, they listen! If you are a mobile player!

Mobile player... This thing even sounds like abomination. Poor Nokia N-gage... It was released in wrong time...

Well I tried it on ps4. There's potential for a good game here. But then again there's been potential for a good game since I returned to PES in 2017.

That said, that doesn't dismiss anything I said about the game earlier today; there's absolutely no excuse for the 'game' to be released in this state. Because this isn't a demo. This is an official release.

I don't hate this. But I'm still disappointed at the overall state of this. Visually the game is dreadful on ps4. Has to be one of the worst visual experiences I've had on the console. It lagged from time to time. I saw the very well publicizing body deforming interactions.
This sums up how I feel. There's some mechanics I do like and sure the cut-scenes, Seamless Transitions and the dribbling is nice and all but the way this has all been launched and presented is diabolical.

This isn't an indy studio or a solo hobbyist developer releasing a game, It's a professional company with decades of experience, there should be some quality assurance and integrity displayed in the release but shamelessly there's been none of that.

It reminds me so much of the way that PES 2014 was rushed and launched unfinished with many standard features and assets missing, poor frame-rate, barebones menu's and missing player faces.

And the PS4 version has no reason to be this much of an unstable eyesore. Even the New Football Game Test didn't look this bad.

Couldn´t hold myself to load that thing on my PS5.

I went with the following settings:
Full manual, stadium cam (0, 4, 3), game speed -1, regular (to get the hang of it).

I don´t know where to start....
I don´t dig the controls and I am missing two important points:
- teammate pressing:
What´s about that manual defending? Holding down L2 and X is even worse than Square and X before.
That L2 move seems to break up the whole mechanics. Bodies start sliding and falling over.
Defending is crap. I do need the controls of being able to make another player chase down, just to block space.
Maybe it´s doable differently now, but I don´t know how.

- knocking the ball further when sprinting (on former releases double tap R1):
Even before receiving the ball single or double tapping R1 provided the player to cut into space.
How is that possible now? As far as I understood, the more you hold down R2,the faster the player gets.
Well nice, but I want that knocking-the-ball-further feature. Fifa has it with the right stick.

And else...the whole gameplay feels strange. Often the ball rolls like a heavy bowling ball.
Keepers kick off the ball higher instead of further.
Players still run into their mate´s ways and the foul system ist still broken.
Yes, it feels more free, but to be honest....it actually feels like a bad programmed gameplay patch.

What´s so special about this? What´s so next-gen?
The non-interruption when the keeper receives a ball from a ball boy?
Wow!

Net physics are a total let down and I don´t know what else I can say...
Except for: I won´t be playing this.
I´ll be following this thread and if there are several updates out, I might try it again.
But right now, I´ll stay with PES 2021.

People keep comparing this with the release of PES 2014.
I don´t! PES 2014 was miles ahead that time.
But instead of ironing out the flaws, they have gone a totally different direction with PES 2015.

Konami should never release this... if this Game was a Beta from July i would really have faith for a final product!

Faces look great, animations are nice, there is something that is going in the right direction but in this stage, this is just shameful.

did already someone who was invited to Konami compare this release with the "newer build" ??

no one, who was invented, has said that this game is that bad ???

played for 2h vs COM and where it matters this game has one huge flaw, which i think wont be changed either because its by core design, its the own team COM AI team/secondary press or the lack thereof

quick counter tactic (which should be vs ball most aggressive) does nothing, most of the time one team player does the runs and the others stay in shape and watch

COM smaller teams are good on the ball and hold and even dribble around from the back which makes it even worse
clearly a design choice ala fifa, for the dribble kid crowd, disgusting really

shame too, because i really enjoy everything else, beside the odd slow response or train like on rail, or sometimes flat pass the ball played slow but too strong still and the ball just never stops the speed and goes and goes which is almost bug like

Adam Bhatti was the worst thing to happen to PES and its community.
Well, he lied big time. He deceived us more than once. But all in all I believe he told us what he was told to tell us.
Don't forget he used to be a fan before joining the dark side... He did care about the game (at least at the beginning). Then, when put in front of a choice like "choose either the truth or the paycheck" I can see almost everyone fall...
Does this justify us losing all our trust in him? Yes it does.
Does it justify us (and fellow gamers on Twitter mainly) abuse his profiles with personally aimed insults? No it doesn't.

I played one game. I won’t waste my time with anymore than that horrendous experience. It’s sad.

I really feel for the people who didn’t know it was a free game, and were under the impression that buying the player pack was the actual game. It was confusingly shown (and slightly underhand) and if you weren’t fully paying attention you could be fooled. Imagine being one of those people, you bought the new PES, did the bizarrely huge download and were greeted with this monstrosity. It’s a shame.

“Just wait until you see the future of PES” they said…

I already see some people after 30-70 games start to think that the game is not so bad, I understand that I see why they think so because yes, there are some good moments that I like, but this can be said for every game, bad or good, big or small it doesn't matter! Even if you find old dog shit on the street and start kicking it in one direction or another, at some point it can be fun.

I see why some people think they have more freedom, yes I see it too (for example, at a high ball to my striker, he stayed under the ball jumped but failed to get it and the blame was entirely mine because I moved it one meter forward, he was not locked to a certain point on the field where the ball would go or humping with the player from another team, without being able to move, as happens in the old games), I can see why some people like certain movements and actions on the field, but is that enough to justify all the problems we have? I do not think so.

I want to remind everyone that in the history of the PES series, we have never had a football game in such a state, with so many problems, bad new mechanisms, and additions. Whether it's Demo or Beta, we've never been in that situation, even PES 2014 was not that bad.

Naturally, this is due to many wrong decisions by Konami, wrong in our opinion, because we get an ugly and empty game, but right for the Company because they think they will emulate mobile practices on all platforms and thus make more money. Now the question is ... what will happen from now on?

"It's not how you launch, it's what it becomes"
Todd Howard

Or at least Konami is counting on it, but whether they have the team, the capacity, whether they will hear the fan's feedback, and what will happen ... is hard to predict in my opinion.
At the moment things are not looking good at all, because the game is in a very bad situation, and if they have done so in 2 years, at this rate they will need at least 10 years to have a finished look.

PES has no future, its dead. That was the hype for.

So... What are people playing?

Pes 2021 with updated option file?

Fifa 22?
PES2021 for me. Couldn't resonate with FIFA on enough levels to make the switch (and money) worthwhile. PES2021 has enough depth and good enough core gameplay that with editing, I can happily get another year out of it by which time either eFootball will have had 7+ patches and will be looking good or FIFA 23 hits the spot. If neither of those things happen, I still have PES 6 and PES 2021 to keep me happy.

It's pes 2008 all over again, except Konami doesn't have any values as a company anymore. And their developers ( the people who actually code the thing) these days are indeed more comparable to indie dev teams in size and expertise, but with a huge pr machine behind it designed to get kids money, so a rushed port to UE4 made to be barely functional because "it's free" and "we can progressively update it to make it less shit" sounds totally and completely on point.

Still haven't tested the game though. Will check for signs of potential more than anything else.

I think it's perfectly normal for people to actually like it for whatever reason, but saying that this medieval torture device is in fact realistic football and we're not getting it, is just the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. This is the perfect time to drop the tired cliché about Konami and realism.

Dreadful ball physics, players are oil tankers on ice, no teammate controls is the dumbest thing ever, defending is garbage and not in a more "manual" way, the AI dribbles ... er, or at least try to, because 1v1s and in fact the easiest way to score is to lock onto them with LT while they don't know what to do with the ball at the back, they're beyond stupid. Slow pace is nothing more than the oil tanker physics + AI stupidity. Did I mention they still have zero awareness of the ball at times? Very realistic.

Offline is dead & buried, if you expect a good offline game with this AI I don't know what to say. They openly said they're making a freaking e-sport game, it's probably why the only people who seem to like it are the ones obsessed with winning online and with "skill gap" rather than with playing football. Nothing more than a trash multiplayer mobile game.
