eFootball (All Platforms)

Welcome to the dark sight...

... muhahahahaha
Sorry since this is off topic but I was looking for something on the site and ended up reading through some posts month(s) before the efootball reveal here and people's thoughts, but I have a question @Carles P.
Was that part of your post (the one I am replying to) a reference to The dark side of the Moon by Pink Floyd?

Sorry Mods

Speaking about the next week Gamescom presentation, could be a chance that they were working all the time during those 2 years to improve the 2020 mobile version that was already made in Unreal Engine and adapt it for the console/PC instead of working on it exclusively from the ground up for the consoles/PC and adapt it later on the phones?
According to @Durandil67, that's indeed the case:

Interesting video's. I watched it all, but i was hoping to see the solution for fluidity vs responsiveness.
In the first video (@3:40m) where he commented on the batman/spiderman free flow combat system. He says the animation are realistic and fluid, but to compensate for the responsiveness there is some sliding.
This actually confirms my point, there needs to be some compensation albeit it with sliding or something else. Also in the pes series on the ps2 you could also see some sliding going on, especially in the replays. And those games were much more responsive. But now konami seems to iron out all the sliding to make the game look more realistic animation wise.

In the 2nd video (@2:50) he literally says that realistic animations come with more sluggishness. After that he explains you could add bespoke animations in between animations to make it more fluid. But fluidity isn't the same as responsiveness in my eyes. An animation could be fluid, but could still take a long to finish before you have control back. He doesn't really cover realistic animations vs responsiveness.
He also talks about animations and the feel. So the animation has to be in line with the feel of the action. But this has nothing to do with responsiveness. In pes nowadays the animations are actually in line with the feel. It looks realistic and in line with gravity, momentum etc., but still feels sluggish.

Read few posts on responsiveness and saw someone say football games MUST BE responsive. By gameplay design choice and as a video game, the point stands correct, but as a simulation, how would you balance it ? I mean, what should a footy game ultimately be ? Simulation or arcade ? or both?

Just like in real life, you lunge/compensate if you find yourself away from the ball, you are trying to respond by making a quick decision. In videogame, they can have something similar, but compensate the accuracy of the outcome (if its a finished game) or just skip animation which is the lazy way out for devs. It ultimately depends on the vision and efficiency of the game designer. With what older pes had at their disposable, they were master of this juggling act which newer PES seems to severely missing.

Wait, what?

They say they've got an MLS license?

Probably just the player names and likeness license, the league and the teams will be fake. Probably they did this because they want the database to be larger because of the new online mode that will replace Myclub.

During the years they were decreasing the focus from competitions --> leagues --> teams --> players. It's not getting a competition / league license anymore (a pack of various goods) now they are focusing just on individual players: "psstt... psttt... hey you !!! what about if I give you some green dollars by doing some face scans in my roulotte parked near some USA college... " ...and the answer was: " YAAAAA !!! YAAAAA !!! "

This is the proof that Konami are investing their time and money on things that we never asked for... But indeed, why they should invest in a game done right, when they can get scans on more player faces that equals more cards to gamble and lots of $$$... They're up for some monetary diversity in their eFootball google store app, I'll tell you that much...

Yeah, definitely.

Everything says to me they're not really looking at leagues or even team licenses any more. Only players.

Why bother with league/team licenses? You don't need them for myClub-style play. Everyone makes a fake team.

Also, they cost a fortune. So... If they ever do make a ML add-on, it's going to be unbelievably barebones. I would be tempted to bet they'll go back to the old PS1-style fake European super league format, with no separate "country" leagues. Which isn't the end of the world - but it shows how "serious" offline play is dead.

For that reason they showed just "ambassadors" or whatever they're called in that excuse of a "trailer". It's clear that the only direction they have now is focused just on cards and how those can be implemented to milk money with them. The only part that was football related in that montage (I can't call it trailer) was Iniesta talking because he was already in Japan and they gave him some money to talk some boring generics, and Pique showing on his webcam after a good nap...

This is how a 6 minutes football game trailer should be:

New Interview

Q:The name change from "Winning Eleven" to "eFootball" had a great impact. It must have been quite an adventure, but could you tell us how you came to change the title?

A:There are a number of reasons for this, but one of them is the new game engine, which we started working on about two years ago as the current generation consoles such as the PS5 were coming out. The introduction of this new engine was one of the triggers. Another reason is the change in the market environment. Many of today's customers are of the "app generation," which means they are accustomed to the basic free-to-play, pay-for-items style of games, and this has become the norm. We have been thinking for a long time about creating a larger platform, partly because we are focusing on e-sports. At that time, the introduction of the new engine and changes in the market combined to give us the right timing. We made the big decision to change the title and unify the brand as a way to take a major step forward, because it would look like a simple change if we continued as before. That's why the name "PES (Pro Evolution Soccer)" has been used overseas until now, but we will unify that name with "eFootball" as well.

Q: What was the reaction from users after the announcement?

A: On social media, many people said they would miss the game. I'm of the generation that has been playing "WIELET", so I understand that. However, I also received a lot of comments from people who are looking forward to the future. I am very grateful for that, and I will do my best.

Q: The fact that the game is "free to play" on all devices also seems like a drastic change. Could you tell us how this came about?

A: I think this is just the way the market is going, and as I mentioned earlier, many customers are now playing games with free basic play and item charges. Some of the titles of other companies that use this format are also very popular, so of course we took that as a reference. However, the main focus is on e-sports. We are aiming to create a large e-sports platform called "eFootball". Any soccer fan can participate immediately. Anyone who is a fan of soccer can participate in eFootball and enjoy playing against people from all over the world. We wanted to create such an environment, so we set that as our main goal. The barrier to participation rises when you have to pay a fee. In order to lower this barrier as much as possible, we decided to make it free. The only way to make it possible for people to participate at any time was to make it free to play, so we took the plunge this time.

Q: You mentioned that some contents and modes will be subject to charges.

A: We've already answered this on SNS, but we're thinking of making "Master League" a paid DLC. However, not all modes will be paid for, for example, the "Edit Mode" which is necessary for all players will be a free update, and we will change the strategy of free and paid DLC to make it easier for people to play.

Q: When I purchase "Master League", will I be able to play this mode in its entirety? Or will there be the basic part first, and then new elements will be added as needed?

A: We're still working on that, but for the single-player mode, we're going to offer it in the form of a "whole game! But for the single-player mode

Q: Will the operation change as well?

A: To sum it up, it will change. The theme of the gameplay this time is "one x one". Of course, soccer is a team sport, but the fun of a soccer game lies in the "one-on-one" aspect, in the anticipation between the attacker and the defender, so that's what we're trying to promote. If we did that, we would have to make various changes to the game, such as how the controls should be adjusted, or how this would be more natural. We decided that it would be better to leave the existing ones behind and create everything from scratch. For those who are used to the existing controls and have been playing the game for a long time, they may feel that the controls are different at first. We received such comments during the test play the other day, but this change was made to express the fun of "one-on-one". So I believe that you will soon get used to the new controls and will be able to play the game without feeling uncomfortable. Also, not all controls will be changed, such as the move with the left stick, the shoot button, and the through pass button will remain the same.

Q: You mentioned that you emphasize "onex one," but is this also reflected in your defensive maneuvers?

A: Yes, since it's one-on-one, when the attacker dribbles, do you retreat to delay the attack, or do you attack to win the ball? If the defender attacks, how will the attacker dodge? The controls are designed to make this part of the game enjoyable.

Well...Will Konami invest in improving Fox Engine? I don't think so...

All we know how Konami works...so change the Physics/Gameplay from Fox to Unreal will last 10 years. Maybe isn't bad news like Durandil said...but hard to believe.

"I'M SO EXCITE !!! HA' FIVVVE !!! "

That explains it all ... that's why in NFG and the trailer the animations had the same problems typical of the old FOX PES games ... I wondered what the reason was ... because I expected more from Unreal, but that's why ... it's still FOX.

How many disappointments will we endure this year? Konami has no stopping...

Weird, they never presented their scanned Spanish and English league players as La Liga or EPL players. Weird they would use the title MLS in the trailer if they dont have the league licensed too. So probably they have it.

This is false advertising on another level.

They even lied about which engine is game using.

Tbh it has been pretty obvious this was the case since the moment NFG launched. As I said back in June when all the brainlets were saying it "just the mobile version to test the servers":

I thought it was going to be a tweaked Fox Engine build using UE for the rendering layer, and that seems to be what they are aiming for. Looking at it I'm doubtful if anything other than the visuals are based on UE, the animation system for example looks uncannily similar to before, it's hard to believe you would go to an entirely new engine and aim for a 1:1 replication, you'd surely aim for at least some modest improvements as you went through the process.

The gameplay was too similar to have been rewritten from scratch. The irony of course being that they replaced the best part of Fox Engine PES (the visuals) with something far worse while keeping all the bad parts.

That latest interview is a train wreck on another level, even by Kimura standards. There is even a quote where he talks about Master League being changed so that it's compatible with mobile, so it will probably be some streamlined/dumbed down experience.

They are not using MLS in the title. MLSPA is a different thing (PA = Players Association). It's obvious it's about individual players, not the league.

Until now the only thing I saw are just lots of "ambassadors" and those fake happy faces... where the hell is that bloody "next gen" gameplay??? The ambassadors should stay on an embassy not in a football game...

Ohhh, I get it !!! They don't want to show us gameplay to make us surprised... Like was the case last year when they showed "PES 2022 NEXT GEN TEASER". I'm still waiting for that game to be released...

Expect arcadey game where you could dribble entire team one on one. Don't know how people at Konami are informed what is happening with the world, they look like they are cut from it. If you are not sure what is ok just update visuals to be next-gen, made some changes to gameplay and buy time to think about next installement. Actually minor stuff is separating both games to be actually much better. I am really dissapointed from the direction they are going, they made this game for kids, just pressing buttons and shoot. We need hardcore devs (thinking of football manager title) who will release realistic simulation of football game even if the game is not selling well but then we will know how many dinosaurs are alive and play it :D
