eFootball (All Platforms)

I laughed when I saw it and see your nick below, thought you were another spammer who played pes for the last 30 years
I wanted to change it from the moment I saw that footage.. I just couldnt find the picture! Piques face is a perfect illustration of how I feel about Pes in recent years.. exhausted, frustrated and depressed..

I don't know if it's "the essence of football", but dribbling past your opponent (we just call them "dribles" in Brazil) is one of the magical parts of football that both FIFA and PES do a poor job at, for almost opposite reasons.

Could very much be nostalgia/mis-remembering, but I felt that early PES 20 demo made dribbling really enjoyable.

I welcome Konami trying to improve on this.

Having said that, I do agree it's a very small (and, sadly, diminishing) part of the game by playing time.
And I prefer if eFootball erred on the side of PES rather than FIFA (so less dribbling).

The fundamental flaws in this game seem to come from a fundamental flaws in the ideas of what football is.
100% agree with this though. I am very doubtful the devs today working on the game understand much about football. Or if they do, and they're being given development priorities that conflict with representing the game well on the pitch, it's probably horrible for them.
That trailer video, with Piqué looking bored to death on a video-link and executives sat around scribbling... That to me says it all, on this front.

The dev team downsized, the remainder (and the replacements) having no idea what football is, having the most basic concepts explained to them by a guy whose face says "why did you need me for this".

(Let's not forget, one of FIFA's head honchos was brought in from the Call of Duty team, based on the money she made with CoD - I wouldn't be surprised to learn Konami have done similar, i.e. retaining staff who've made MTX money in other games.)

I honestly don't think their marketing team is clever enough to have concocted that footage entirely for our benefit - it seems more like they booked the call in and marketing said "great, we can record that and put it in the trailer, bonus".

Lurking on Evo-Web for about 30 years, LOL

ISS didn't come out until 1997
[OffTopic] Sorry I know what do you mean... just when I saw this, I started questioning myself .. … because I'm sure I've played ISS before that!! Luckily for me, I was still keeping all my Konami football games and I saw that ISS Delux was from 1995:

I even remember playing the first ISS with my classmate who had SNES, and 1994 ... and if we go back even further, I even have a copy of the 92' Konami Hyper Soccer:

IF we can go even further back and see that Konami have football games in 1985 as well, but i dont have this one :D

So ... let's just say that the Konami Football Games have a 30-year history.

It's depressing to see these wonderful masterpieces hand draw covers, and put them next to what eFOOTBALL offers as an art style.

I take back my scepticism then.

Sorry @MKC

Its not. Pes20 demo was brilliant. In both departments.
Dribbling was fun, defending was fantastic. I played the demo all the way up to the release and couldnt put it down. Online full manual matches were so, so good!
...unfortunately - social media brigade started screaming that there are too many fouls... defending turned into spamming X and dribbling was dumbed down, so there werent too many quick turns resulting in fouls.
I was honestly disgusted how they destroyed such a great entry.

Edit:
Do you remember physicality from the demo?

I think it's high time we had a "Shrique", using the footage from that trailer. Paging ༺Ƥeຮ༻ (sorry dunno how to tag that name lol).

Master League you could build your team without having to pay for it and online gaming, wins who had the better skills and not who spend more money in it.

Don't know how this could be seen as an evolution for players.

I meant more the evolution of what the player base in general wants. The increase in popularity of online modes over the years is what made Ultimate team/MyTeam/MyClub/Diamond dynasty viable in the first place.

think the guy you spoke with is making pretty silly points. The idea that because sumo wrestling and baseball is popular, Japanese developers place an undue emphasis on 1v1s in a football game is laughable!

But what's the national sport of Canada? Hockey I think? It is not 1vs1. It is IIRC 5vs5, 6vs 6 or what? But yet, "the Others" were first focusing on 1vs1.

I mean the guy explained this to you had a valid point, and a good intention for sure, but i think he is "misguided" but the good intentions.

Checking most competitive games the last 11 years, what I can see is, after people get better and better they tend to isolate the factors that they cannot control, as skill-wise they become more "equal".

And what someone cannot control? Luck and/or randomness, the RNG elements as LoL players used to say.

What can be an RNG factor? In a moba is the critical hit ratio, which is based on a % RNG, so it is randomness or luck.

In footy games, the MC/FuT pro players tend to say that RNG factor is the AI controlled teamates, the headers, the weather, the sunlight, etc.

So companies take the feedback and try to eliminate RNG factors. Everything seems OK, but the problem in this is, the online players share the same gameplay with offline players.

So either the first group or the latter is usually upset by something. For example until pes 2017, that the secondary press was working as always, people used tooam that everyome controls the CF and defends only by pressing :square:. After 2018,that secondary press became broken, being now more hit-or-miss than secondary press, nobody complained again.

Even my favorite trading card game, which is 1vs1 by nature, is so much influenced by this anti-luck trend.

Back to topic, this 1vs1 sound logic in theory for such type of mass multi-player games, but cannot apply in practice.

Especially Teamsports like football and basketball, except for class, Form, momentum, mentality, are still based also in luck. IE, Steven Gerrard or John Terry is taking a crucial penalty kick, he slips and misses the PK.
I think you've both misunderstood what I was saying which is on me.

The comment 1v1s and their perceived significance in sporting culture in Japan wasn't supposed to be directly related to PES dev's comment. It wasn't supposed to come off like 'oh they're doing this because of this'. So my apologies. More coincidental than anything. At the end of the day there's multiple factors that have led the game to where it is right now.

Seems my points haven't been as clear as I'd like them to be lol

I still play that demo now, it's as close as they ever got to recreating the 'feel' of the classic PS2 PES titles. Of course it was still riddled with Konami's garbage like the lack of AI aggression in dribbling and good old Deep Defensive Line!

sorry for replying off topic. I see you in next eFootball game development team with that avatar :D I laughed when I saw it and see your nick below, thought you were another spammer who played pes for the last 30 years :D
Dude how do people now realize this? The 30 years dude was joking.

Not nostalgia. Dribbling with Pavon in the demo was just sublime, the smoothness of it, the rhythm, the fact the defenders bought your dummies...

I know. But Option Files arent. And as far as id like to say I dont care about cosmetics... i do.
I had a period of time when I edited, manually, all the teams to get them as close to real kits as possible.. still - I just couldnt play it once I finally started Master League. It felt cheap and I felt punished for liking the gameplay they destroyed

If you download PES 20 from PSN Store, then do you get the original version at release?

If not, and you have to buy a CD, is any CD okay? Or did they print later versions on some of them?
