Almost everyone who normally plays fifa but is going to try and play efootball on the basis itā€™s free will move back to FIFA when that becomes free.

The only way Konami were ever going to steal a march on FIFA was to make the true next gen sim that everyone on here wanted and built modes upon that - they instead cheaped out, tried to copy FIFA but offer it for free as the differentiator and then after only a year that master plan is all going to come crashing down.

Edit: Also, if both games go f2p with a FUT/ myclub mtx focus there will be no better time for a third competitor to enter the market focusing on an offline experience. Iā€™m certain there is a huge market for this (despite most of us thinking itā€™s just old folks on this forum). I would be thinking along the lines of a football manager style career mode with next gen sim gameplay. It would be huge.
If it does happen, and if EA decide to neglect the career mode like Konami will reject ML probably, then it may open up the way to licensing deals, most significantly. If your main F2P mode is FUT, it seems like forking out millions for licences is a bit unnecessary.

So that's positive, because no large publisher will try working on a footie sim at this point without licenses.

What i get from that part is that they will develop, with the device that will increase the number of players, in mind. So as you all know 400M downloads probably is going to be the base game, for all platforms, and that would explain the Demo online test we had. Then you will have shinny graphics on PS5 and Series X, and thats it.


One other thing that boggled my mind was the fact they he specifically said that they started to develop this as an Engine upgrade for PES, but then (few months agoo :LMAO:???) decided that this should be a F2P, WFT. But that would explain the lack of information, rushed demo, and lack of a well structured road-map with mode names on it, and specific dates.

This all seems rushed just because they decided to change the roadmap mydway to development

I have been playing this game ever since the ps1 days.
Before that I did some Fifa, but then I bought international superstar soccerā€¦ā€¦and was amazed by the gameplay.
Since then I was a pes guy, always defending the game to my mates who were all fifa guys.

Then the ps2 era came. I had that ps2 modded, and a friend of mine downloaded a patch with his modem.
I did not have a pc in those days.
I will never forget the moment when I put my original game in the dvd reader, an empty cd in the burner, and (donā€™t remember how exactly) applying the patch.
And then the magical moment : putting it in the ps2 and starting upā€¦ā€¦.it worked!
My teams had licensed kits, wooohooooo!!!

Some years later I bought a pc via work. Then bought pes5, pes6.
Me and a mate used to play online against 2 guys from Northern Ireland. What great games these were.
We all tried to play actuall football, we won some and we lost some but I enjoyed every minute of those games.
After each one we saidā€¦.one more. Finally turned off the pc at 3 in the morning and the next day in the office was always tough.

I modded the hell out of pes6, had the patch switcher with classic patches and the up to date ones.
Loved all the stadiums and crowd chants, great times.

Around pes2008 I started to dislike the games, tried a few fifaā€™s and did not like them.
But have to admit, for a while I played only Fifa, who slowly got better.
Picked up Pes again around pes 2015, and bought all of them since on the ps4.
Downloaded option files and applied them.
To me those games were ok, but I never got the pes5 / 6 feeling again.

The last years I bought both games, going from one to the other and back again.
Never stuck with either one as simply they both were not good enough.

To be honest I hoped for a good pes game when they took the year off but it seams it was not meant to be.
I guess this is just the direction gaming is going.
Developers still want to do the right thing, but the suits just want the money and donā€™t care about offline dinosaurs like me.

So, I will give the game a go once itā€™s there but have no hope at all.
Same goes for Fifa, so for the time being I will play the old versions, drinks a few beers and cry.
Nostalgia is not a bad thing.

I agree with everything you said here mate. I started playing PES4 and PES5 on PS2. I would spend countless hours editing the kits and emblems to make it as close as possible to the Premier League kits at the time.

Then I was lucky enough to get PES6 on a modded PS2 and that is where the real fun began. I would spend countless hours burning DVDs and .ISO files just to get the latest bootpacks, kits and balls. I bought a stack of 50 DVDs and went through all of them just to make sure I had the perfect PES6. I was then lucky enough to get a laptop that was able to handle PES6 and I spent countless hours in university downloading the latest mods and patches from this GREAT Evo Web forum. I do still think that my obsession with PES6 was one of the reasons why one of my ex-girlfriends split up with me šŸ˜…

I was heartbroken when PES2008 released as the game was awful and ruined everything that PES6 was building on. I tried to get the PES6 that released on XB360 but it never had the same feel. I ended up playing FIFA games for the whole XB360 generation and only when I got a PS4, I switched back to PES. I agree with Eflie above, those games never had the same feel as PES6 did. There was always just something missing. The defending was piss poor and the dribbling was too jagged. The matches were too scripted and unenjoyable as much as you wanted to fall in love with PES again.

When covid first hit and the first major lockdown happened, I ended up downloading and playing all of the modded PES6 World Cup and Euro tournaments on this forum and it brought me all back. There was just something so special about PES6 that was never replicated.

I have enjoyed playing PES21 and hope that there will still be mods released. Although I am now married with two young boys, I hope I can one day show them all of the old versions of PES and let them know that this was the best game out there. RIP PES. It is a shame that KONAMI never truly appreciated you.

I assume the download counter in rigid and linear, counting each download, regardless of deleting or insta abondoning.

IE myself I have downloaded it approx. 5 or 6 times. If you count devices, that I downloaded but couldn't run it, due to older Android software, it could be even 10 times just by me.

I don't doubt that mobile platform has a lot of users, maybe more that consoles, but 100 million seems a very big number.

Well, as i read a bit more about Konami over the weekend, I feel more stupid now as i realize it was very clear this "evolution" was coming.

Konami are a pachinko making company, they are done with creating AAA games. Its just not worth it for them.
Same thing happened to their biggest franchises: Castlevania, Metal Gear, Silent Hill and now even Contra, etc

I say i feel more stupid now as it clearly is the way to go for them as a company, while i was still romanticizing in my head that they wanted to give the best football experience for offline players.

I played a couple of matches in 2021 ML last night and i truly feel this is the best PES made to date. I will keep on playing it and i truly enjoy it when playing with a mate.

If they come up with something for offline gaming even close to what it was in pes 2021 or they even improve it somehow, I will be really grateful as they clearly are not focusing on that.

My real hope would be if they keep the ML but make it accesible to play co-op with your mates online and they add some new features to it (hopefully not mechanics driven by chance (playing lotto for players instead of manual scouting) or real money related).
I would be very happy to pay for something like that.
Having it look better/have smoother animations/AI having different and adaptative tactics would be a big plus.

I guess i have now realized whats going on and will resist to cope against something that does not even make sense or is pretty much beating a dead horse.
A.k.a. im in the acceptance and hope stage i would say.

Let's see what they have to say in the coming weeks/months.

I wanted to try FIFA 21 on my PS4 as it seems PES is no more. And same as other people stated here, I gave PES 20/21 so many chances, but it gets so boring after a few matches... Then, I remembered! The best football game of these generation was made by Ubisoft:
