Interesting question Prof. I'm not sure what type of football we'd play under him, but he is a good organiser and motivator and he has managed to get the best out of 'difficult' players like Okocha and Djorkaeff. Is he a big enough name to tempt players to the Bridge though?

I don't think it would be him attracting big players, but the club, no? Although he has done very well to attract some top name plays to Bolton, albeit some ex-top players, but still Okocha, Ivan Campo, Djorkaeff, Giannakopoulos, Javi Moreno, they are all pretty good signings for a habitually "struggling" Premiership side. Personally i would have loved to have seen JJ at the bridge, particularly in place of Veron. I rate him higher than JSV. I'm a big fan of the man. :)

I think some of those players were drinking at the last chance saloon though!

No, but if they hadn't heard of him, they might be less keen to come. I wouldn't want to work with Howard Wilkinson for instance!

I've never been that keen on Okocha to be honest. Great skills but tends to go missing against the bigger teams.

ROMAN WANTS PARKER

Chelsea are once again on the trail of Charlton midfielder Scott Parker, The Daily Express have reported. Blues owner Roman Abramovich was interested in signing the highly-rated England man in the summer, but Parker had only just signed a five-year deal keeping him at the Valley. And with the Addicks doing well in the Premiership this year, Parker would only consider a move away if boss Alan Curbishley's stay at the club was coming to an end.

The London billionaires have also told French club Rennes they will buy them a replacement for keeper Petr Cech if they sell him to Chelsea.

LOL, now that's funny. Can't we just give them Sullivan or Ambrosio, heh heh.

On the trail of Parker again ay. It going to take alot of cash to prize him from the Valley after that extension. Worth it Terry? Although, it would be nice to see the English contigent grow even more at the Bridge. I think that will be the making of us in the future.

Apparently Charlton will turn down any bid we make for Parker, while Valencia are hanging on for a bid of €15 million for Ayala.

Tough time of year for us - we've got 5 midfielders and one striker out injured, plus a defender and another midfielder off to the Cup of Nations. Other clubs don't want to let their players leave mid-season understandably, so it looks like we'll have to wait till the summer for re-inforcements.

I think we'll live. Duffer is back in the next couple of weeks. ;)

Havent Chelsea already tried to sign Parker??

And dont Chelsea have two strikers and two midfielder out on loan at the moment?

Even with chelsea's money, no-one is budging, like you said T, letting your star players go mid season just doesnt ad up.

Whats the script with Seba isnt his injury pretty bad??

We had a deal with Charlton before Roman came along, but when it got put on ice, they convinced him to sign a new contract (he'd bought a new car and everything!)

I'd like Carlton and Forssell back now, but unfortunately we agreed to let them stay till the end of the season. Zenden I never want to see back in a blue shirt and Smertin.....err.....dunno?

Seba should be back in early February.

Yeah whats the deal with Smertin, if he's never gonna play for Chelsea, why sign him??

forsell's done a cracking job at Birmingham, he went thru a lean patch but he's done okay, Cole im not sure about, has he done well at Charlton??

It'll be good to see Seba playing football again, we've missed the "little witch" at OT this season.

You going tonite T??

Cole has been scoring recently but he was injured for so much of the season that he's only just hitting fitness now. No idea what happened with Smertin - no one does. :l

We're playing tomorrow, and yep. Got to take advantage of the freebies Ken throws my way!

Pompey wanted to sign Smertin at the same time as we did. They agreed for us to buy him as we would immediately loan him to them until the end of the season. So either way, they got him. I thought we could recall our loan players Terry? That's normally the case isn't it. Defo would bring back Forssell at the moment. Sorry Brum. And cole impressed me no end last season. I thought he was going to get a good run this season, pre-takeover. But things changed.

If we could, I think we'd have done it, but I'm sure we promised not too.

Who knows what the hell they're up to over there!

ive heard that chelsea have made an cheecky bid for RVN?? doubt there is any truth in it tho

wonder how much he would actually go for if it happened??!? £90m or more maybe......

I'm not a club spokesman, but even I will not comment on that rumour.

I can see Chelski slipping down to 4th this season. With Arsenal and Man Utd the blatant title contenders, I think Newcastle or Liverpool will pip you to the chase for 3rd. Rich, spoilt bastards. Who's next.. Ronaldo? Why doesnt your thick chairman get it into his head.. YOU DON'T NEED STRIKERS

Highly unlikely that we want him, I think we're trying to make Man Utd raise their price.

Chelsea swoop for Saha

The Fulham striker was thought to be on the verge of a £9.8million move to Manchester United after it was reported the two clubs had agreed a fee following weeks of acrimony. But Chelsea yesterday made their shock move that could either end with the Frenchman making the short trip to Stamford Bridge, or have the effect of driving the transfer price even higher for United.

United identified Saha as their No1 target during the January transfer window, but have balked at Fulham's original asking price of £12m. Saha has scored 13 Premiership goals this season, but has been unsettled since United's interest was made public. Fulham manager Chris Coleman would prefer to keep his star striker but it is unlikely that his club can resist for much longer.

The consolation for Coleman would be that he would be given at least a proportion of the fee for Saha with which to strengthen his squad before the end of this month. Chelsea are also on the lookout for a goalkeeper and a central defender before the window closes, but the Blues have struggled to score goals at times this season and Claudio Ranieri would see Saha as a prize capture.

If Chelsea pull off the coup, it would take their spending on just four forwards since the summer to around £60m. It would also be a blow to United not just because Saha was their main transfer-window target, but following the defection of their former chief executive Peter Kenyon to Chelsea, it would prove again the Blues' purchasing power under Roman Abramovich.

RANIERI WANTS PARKER TO SWAP WITH COLE JOE FACES HEAT IN NEW RANIERI BID

CLAUDIO RANIERI last night sent a clear message to Joe Cole that his Chelsea career is on the rocks after offering him in a swap deal for Charlton's Scott Parker. Chelsea boss Ranieri had identified Parker as his top target during the January transfer window to help him get his Premiership title challenge back on track.

But Chelsea's initial approach was just a straight swap involving England midfielder Cole and it is clear that Ranieri is prepared to sacrifice him in his desperate bid to land Parker. But Charlton manager Alan Curbishley is understood to have rejected the offer and has made it clear that he is not prepared to sell Parker at any price.

Charlton yesterday went public and declared that Chelsea's interest in Parker was "not welcome". They were quick to insist that they had rejected an offer from their millionaire London rivals. But Charlton did not mention that Chelsea did not offer any cash but instead simply tried to trade Cole.

It must be a huge worry for Cole that he is not part of Ranieri's long-term plans. Cole, a £7million signing from West Ham in the summer, has struggled to hold down a regular place in Chelsea's foreign legion of superstars. Mirror Sport had already revealed that Chelsea tried to loan Cole to Dynamo Moscow immediately after signing him as a favour from owner Roman Abramovich to one of his Russian business contacts who was trying to take over the club.

Cole's former club West Ham were also understood to be interested in taking him back to Upton Park on a loan deal just to try to give him regular first-team football. Ranieri has been giving Cole more opportunities in recent weeks but apparently still does not believe he will ever play a central part in a Chelsea team challenging for major honours.

Ranieri clearly feels that England prospect Parker would give his midfield more bite than Cole and it is certain that Chelsea will return with an increased offer, even though Charlton maintain their star midfielder is not for sale. Ironically, Chelsea could have landed their man last summer when they tabled an offer for Parker, who was set to leave for Stamford Bridge and even bought himself a new car on the back of his proposed move.

However, when Abramovich took over he made it clear that he wanted to set his sights higher than Parker and gave Ranieri £111m to spend to try and bring in a host of big names. Ranieri pulled the plug on Parker but has been left to regret not signing him, especially as the midfielder agreed a new long-term deal with Charlton in September.

But Parker has been in inspired form this season, forcing his way into the full England squad and starring when Charlton demolished Chelsea 4-2 at The Valley on Boxing Day. That made up Ranieri's mind that Parker should be his prime target during the January window and he has now launched a bid to sign him. But Charlton have been left enraged by Chelsea's attempts to leak the story and turn Parker's head about a big- money move to Stamford Bridge.

They are also annoyed because Chelsea have told them that they will not listen to any offers to try to make England Under-21 striker Carlton Cole's loan move permanent. However, Charlton are already bracing themselves for a new offer from Chelsea for Parker and they are expected to return within the next 48 hours with a straight cash deal of around the £10m mark.

Parker insists he is happy to stay at Charlton and fire the club into Europe. He said: "Alan Curbishley has been such a massive factor for me and one of the major reasons why I signed a new deal with the club.
"I honestly think we are a top 10 side and are capable of playing European football - there is no doubt about that."

Curbishley's name is constantly mentioned every time a top managerial vacancy occurs, but has shown his commitment to Charlton by pledging his future to the club, and Parker is confident the boss will not leave.

Chelsea reportedly bidding for PSG's Argentine defender

PARIS (AP)— Chelsea has offered millions of euros (dollars) in a bid for Paris Saint-Germain defender Gabriel Heinze, a French newspaper reported Wednesday. Winning the 25-year-old Argentine would be the latest coup by the Premiership side's billionaire owner, Roman Abramovich, in his plan to build a club filled with big-name talent, Le Parisien reported, without citing sources.

The report said Chelsea had offered millions of euros (dollars) for Heinze, but did not specify the amount. The offer for Heinze was made in the last few days, the report said. It would give cash to financially troubled PSG while offering Heinze the chance to join an English club alongside fellow Argentine stars Hernan Crespo and Juan Sebastian Veron.

Heinze has also had recent squabbles with PSG coach Vahid Halilhodzic over the positions he has been assigned to play, the Parisien report said. Repeated telephone calls to PSG by The Associated Press seeking comment rang busy early Wednesday. No one was available for immediate comment at Chelsea.

Nedved could have been a Chelsea player
by Morgan Pitt

Juventus ace Pavel Nedved could have signed for Chelsea last summer if it wasn't for his wife. According to the Evening Standard all details in the contract were ready when Nedved's wife interfered. Apparently she was keen for her husband to stay in Turin and play for Juventus instead of moving to London

Wives...

What's Ranners obsession with Parker? Joe Cole is a perfectly good young attacking midfielder. Use him!! Goh! Sometimes that man worries me...actually quite often really  not just sometimes. What do you think Terry? J Cole is in the same mould as Parker, don't you think?

Venebles mentioned somewhere that if we didnt get Saha, that you's would go in for him, but its the kids dream to play for us so barring him failing a medical we should see him in The Shirt real soon....

Vann, you've got to stop falling for this line! Every player everywhere says they dream about such and such a club. He dreamt of Fulham, he would have dreamt of Arsenal, Chelsea, Boro - whoever. They only say it to make themselves welcome with a new set of fans.

I've seen Parker lot's of times......and never noticed him. He's probably quite a talent. I think the Joseph story is horse-poo to be honest.

Im not falling for anything, he said it, his dad said it, even his fellow countryman Anelka said "why wouldnt Louis wanna play for the best club in the world".

And no not all players say it, I never heard Makele/Crespo/Veron saying "ive always dreamt of playing at the bridge" to make themselves welcome at Chelsea.

Maka said he was proud and felt respected, Crespo said he jumped at the chance and all his Inter mates were jealous, and Veron said it was a dream come true and the end of a nightmare.

The reason you never heard this was because we didn't come to the manc thread to tell you about it. ;)
