The only forseable problem is the amount of players vying for places, it doesnt really effect you's now cos of injuries and Geremi playing in the African cup but its gonna be hard to unless they plan on selling, loaning players.

It's a nice problem to have!

There will always be injuries and suspensions to whittle the numbers down, just look at now. Everyone said we had far too many midfielders but at the moment we've got the bare 4 available, and two of them are knackered!

What? Title races and European football - or stay with Charlton? How do you improve by only playing Leicester etc. every week?

Everyone was saying Lampard, Terry, Cole wouldn't get a kick this season but they are vital to the team. Maybe it's time you dug up some new arguments.

Hey, calm down, its not an argument, its my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, Chelsea is a huge step up from Charlton, but with the midfield you have I can't see him playing as regularly as he is at the moment. For someone trying to get an England call-up this is not the way to do it.

The point I was trying to make is that is Chelsea the best destination for him if he is looking to further his career? I think not.

LOL, sorry mate bit hungover today - makes me a little techy.

Having said that, you are just plain wrong. SGE wants to see how he fares against the worlds best, not Callum Davidson. He could play a zillion times for Charlton and never learn another thing.

At Chelsea he would play as many games (lot's more cup and European games don't forget) learn how to handle pressure, get used to playing with Englands back 4 ;) , and be training daily with Makelele, Veron, Lampard, Duff, Joe Cole, Crespo etc. What's not to like!?

If you weren't wearing your Arsenal hat (which you never take off btw) I'd like to see what you'd do!

...mediocre football skills. You forgot to mention that one.
Butt has always been a poor sub for Scholes and Keane, I think. I can't remember ever being impressed by a performance of his. He works hard, I suppose but we already have players that put donw the mileage, AND have skill to boot.

Thats a bit harsh!! I could say the same about you!!

I take your point about training with other world class players, but he could do that at say Liverpool, and play every game.

Other than Gerrard, Kewell and Owen, I struggle to name anyone world class. And two of them are off in the summer. ;)

Butastita, remember when I said I wanted Man U to win the league because we couldn't win it? You had a go at me and said I wasn't a 'real fan'.

Your opinion of a real fan is someone so biased as to be blind to any other football club.

That's you that is.

This for you Vann. ;)

CECH HAS HEART SET ON BLUES MOVE
Thursday 15th January 2004

Rennes goalkeeper Petr Cech has pleaded with the club not to block his dream move to Premiership moneybags Chelsea. The French side have already rejected one offer, in the region of £6 million, for the Czech international. Rennes want to keep Cech until June, while Chelsea would like to sign him during this month's transfer window.

Chelsea are keen to sign the highly-rated shot-stopper and have re-enterted talks with Rennes to bring him to Stamford Bridge. The 21-year-old is now hoping that both clubs can come to an agreement to allow him to move to West London. "I have that proposition of Chelsea in my mind every day. I know that discussions between clubs are going on," said Cech.

"There will be a new meeting soon between people from both clubs and I hope that something good will come out. I really want to go to Chelsea." Cech revealed he had talked with Rennes general manager Pierre Dreossi to explain his situation that he wants to take the chance to join Chelsea. "I talked with Pierre Dreossi about this. He explained to me his position and the fact that he wants to keep me until the end of the season. Then, I explained my point of view," added Cech.

"Rennes have to understand that Chelsea is a big challenge for me. I won't let go of that chance. "Chelsea want a new goalkeeper now and they won't wait until June to get me. They will probably take someone else if they don't find an agreement with Rennes."I am still optimistic because the offer of Chelsea is very important.

"My agent is in London," confirmed Cech. "I will be disappointed if the deal will not be done." Rennes are believed to be considering replacements for Cech with Bastia's Nicolas Penneteau or Marseille's Vedran Runje among their targets.

I hardly think saying "get behind your team" is having a go. Anyway who are you to call me "biased" and "blind"? Look this is getting off topic, so lets just say we agree to disagree.

Definitely no Vieri at the Bridge. A wise move I think. I won't paste the entire story because most of it is hearsay (pure and simple) and it's very long. It amounts to this from a club spokesman:

"Mr Abramovich was not impressed by Vieri's actions last year and he was asking for silly money. "

Tell'em Roman!

Yes!!! I agree with you on this TB. Vieri is over rated and wouldn't fit in at all. Plus he seems like a right greedy bastard money wise!

Hahaha I wouldnt wanna mess with Roman.

Good for him though, on one hand Chelsea wanna be an attractive propostition for players but wont be held to ransom.

Vieri is a top, top striker though and it'd be great to see him in The Prem, I reckon if he did abit of backtracking and did the old "its my dream move" thing ;) Roman would love to have him at The Bridge.

I dunno - Romans not a guy to be dicked around. If it was a deal worth millions to him, maybe he'd change his mind - but a second chance to give Vieri millions and a load of new people to annoy?

I think he'll pass. Hard lack Vieri, you flamin galaa!

Ranieri on the transfer rumours:

"I am already at the station meeting all these players," he joked about the speculation. "Even my mother believes all the newspapers and TV and does not believe her son." :D

Overrated! Never! Underrated appearently! He bagged 25 goals last season in i beleive only 24 games! He would get on great in England i think, he also speaks fluently English. Vieri was raised in Australia.

I've never heard of him being a greedy bastard monet wise...

I don't think he would stand out quite so much here. Whenever I've watched him for Italy, he's looked distinctly average.

Remember THAT miss lol!?

lol remember skinner doing "my granny could've scored that"

well funny...

Yeah compared to some of Italy's other strikers he's not all that, his attributes on PES3 are wayy off, but he'd do well over here cos he's more like an english CF IMO.

Anyway he aint comin, theres no way Saha will go Chelsea so they should go for Defoe.

Hm... Vann i remember you having a much more of a positive oppinion of Vieri only a week ago.

IMHO Vieri is overrated, and if apparently he is effective, he's not the most attractive player to watch....In my opinion if you have the money Chelsea currently have at their disposal you should win with champaign football...

About the Rennes' goalkeeper (and sligthly off-topic, i'm sorry): Cech, Le Tallec, Sinama Pongolle, Escudé,... one wonders why that team always plays in the relegation zone...

And about Chelsea's transfer(s) (rumours): apparently they wanna buy young players (and English players), which is good for British football...I prefer that to Real Madrid's transfers...

Exactly gerd, this is what i've been saying. I would really appreciate a strong English presence in the squad, it will be the making of us. I think it would be nice to aquire Parker in the summer when we consolidate our squad.

As for Rennes, as you mentioned gerd, they;re often down the bottom half of the 1st Division, they're currently only a few points off the relegation zone and they're denying their keeper a "step up" in football terms. :l

I think Carlo would get the nod in the near future and Cech will be focussed on learning a few things from him, but another foul up like the one at highbury and he might end up spending a lot of time on the bench.

Thing is TB, as a fan of another club, I get the impression that Cudicini is the best keeper in the Prem. Is this another case then of the press building him up to be something he ain't?

As a Chelsea fan, how do you rate him?

He's good and makes some incredible saves, but as you know, some times he makes some right howlers, albeit rare. I'm not sure whether he just stops concentrating for a second or what.

I'd say Niemi is the best in the league at the moment, but I'd have to see more of Howard. When I've seen him play, he looks pretty ordinary and he's only played about 25 games - but everyone keeps going on about him. I don't know if that's hype yet.

Lehmann's not bad either (if he could stop attacking innocent members of the public. ;) )

Well I did say he'd do well over here so how is that not positive, I meant that he's more of an english type CF than an Italian one.

I'd still love to have him at OT so ive not changed my mind.

Is Niemi playing for Southamption (i like Finnish players)???

In what i read about the Premiership (may sound silly but i follow the Premiership in the printed press, i hardly ever see matches) Cudicini is fairly often mentioned as the best GK in the Premiership...Four-Four-Two for example mentioned a while ago that he's unlucky that the two best keepers in the world are fellow Italians, because that Cudicini would be the GK of every other national team (by the way, can he play for England???).
Oh and the Henry Winter article earlier in thi thread is not from 4-4-2 magazine...

gerd, Cudicini could play for England if he wanted to, once he's been here long enough he could claim citizenship.
Niemi plays for southampton. I do think he's good (he's in my ML team)

Looks as if Frey is certain to be on his way to the Premiership, either for Arsenal of Chelsea. If he was to arrive, he might not feature until next season (ie be loaned backed to Parma until the end of the season) as he isn't eligible for the CL.
Heinze (PSG) is spouting the "dream move" stuff about coming to Chelsea, although the club might not want to sell him.

Heinze is pants on PES3.

Without wanting to cause offence to my esteemed colleague, Prof, Cudicini is not and never will be eligible to play for England, something that was confirmed by him late last season. Furthermore, he said he'd never want to!

I'm not sure about Frey, I rather like the cut of this Cech's gib.

ah!

I'm sure you don't use PES3 as a bible though Terry. I mean, ever since ISS PE/PES increased it's attributes, Nokami's player accuracies have gotten worse imo. Heinze is good in management games though, such as LMA Manager and CM4, and a regular feature in the starting line up over the last couple (if not more) seasons for PSG.
