ROSICKY CLAIMS CHELSEA CONTACT

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Tomas Rosicky has claimed that Chelsea have been in talks with his agent over a proposed move to England. The highly-rated Czech Republic international told Prague daily newspaper Sport that he has been aware of interest from Claudio Ranieri's side and their Russian billionaire backer Roman Abramovich.

"Yes, it's true. I have known for eight or nine days now of Chelsea's interest," said Rosicky. The 23-year-old joined Dortmund from Sparta Prague for 14.8 million euros (£10.2 million) at the end of 2000 and the financially-troubled Bundesliga outfit would expect considerably more in return with the Euro 2004-bound star under contract until 2008.

Dortmund may be keen to cash in on their brightest star with a much-publicised shortfall in their budget due to the club's failure to make this season's Champions League group stage, after they were downed by Belgium's Club Brugge in the third qualifying round. Having already asked the players to take a voluntary wage cut, Borussia are still likely to yield record losses at the end of the financial year after failing to see a return on their high investment in new players.

A concrete bid for Rosicky would appear to be something the Germans simply could not afford to refuse. "If someone - like in the case of [goalkeeper] Jens Lehmann - wants to leave and the price is right, then we can discuss it," admitted Dortmund business manager Michael Meier.
Rosicky also told Kicker magazine in Germany that he would be prepared to walk away from the club if they failed to qualify for next season's Champions League.

And with the club languishing in sixth position at the midway stage of the season, 14 points behind leaders Werder Bremen, their chances hang in the balance.

And we'll need him, because........

Veron Needs Back Operation

Friday, Jan 16, 2004

Chelsea Football Club can confirm today that Juan Sebastian Veron will undergo back surgery in his home country of Argentina. The midfield player and his family have flown home where he will be treated by surgeons who are well-known to him. He will spend the appropriate length of time in Argentina recuperating from the operation before returning to the club.

Interim Chief Executive Paul Smith said: "We hope Juan will be fit enough to rejoin us before the season reaches its climax and strengthen our challenge for trophies. He has expressed a wish to undergo the surgery in Argentina as he is comfortable and familiar with the medical team, and the club fully supports this decision."

£15 million, what a bargain.....

Chelsea target young African

Sunday, 18 January 2004

Chelsea's exciting search for new talent has reached new boundaries following revelations in Africa that Saihou Nije is to hold trials with the big-spending London outfit.

Claudio Ranieri is certainly prepared to search far and wide for new talent, and, backed by owner Roman Abramovich's virtually limitless funds, the Italian has targeted some of the world's best players.

However, the Blues boss is also aware of the need to bring fledgling potential to Stamford Bridge and Nije certainly falls into this category.

The midfielder, also known as 'Orga', is spending a month with the Chelsea academy, a dream come true for a teenager from The Gambia.

"Joining Chelsea would be a fulfilled dream as I am a childhood supporter of the team," he told Independent Sports.

Nije is captain of Gambia Ports Authority FC and is earning a big reputation for himself in his homeland.

Very good news this, they definitely are concentrating on young players...
And about Rossicky, that's a very good player...but i wonder if he isn't a litle bit too frail for the Premiership...well maybe he's talented enough to overcome this...

Hey Terry, i imagine the Man Utd fans will be a bit quieter this week. ;)

And so are we. :( I hope this kids a magician because it's the only way we'll score at home the rest of this season. No idea how to break a team down, just the same old same old. Plodding down the left, then plodding down the right, hopeful cross in, out it comes shoot from edge of box, out it comes, repeat ad infintum.

We are the new Liverpool - narrow, no movement and a manager who has run out of ideas.

Whilst I agree with bits of that TB, I think you are overlooking the fact that Mail Taylor had a quite outstanding game. On another day you would have won quite comfortably. And thats what I think you need, a good win to get your confidence flowing again.

To say you are the new Liverpool is a bit tough on you, cos your team has soooooooooo much more invention than the current Liverpool side.

I do feel though that Ranieri has lost it a bit and fresh blood in the Managers office may get more out of the players you have got.

Alternatively, just get Roman to put his hand in his pocket again!!

Yeh, but we rely too much on luck - we should be scoring no matter how bad our luck. We'd just come off the back of two 4-0's so our confidence should be fine, but it isn't because the players know how frail our system is.

If we don't score in the first 25 mins, we rarely score at all.

Apart from our early kick-off on Saturday, due to an all mighty bender Ive seen no other footy all weeked, when I was finally coming out of my coma yesterday I saw the post match interviews and it seemed (abit like our game) that the Brummie keepers was the star of the show.

They rode their luck a bit, but we didn't force the issue. We were far too happy to just try the same things over and over again. It was just plain dull!

I left about 15 minutes from the end because I already knew the result! It was like watching an egg timer over and over again.

You asked the question. I went to dig them up - or do you think we use your quotes everyday as a symbol of knowledge and humour, that we could only aspire too?

No, we think you are a childish little fcukwit who posts scarcely understandable dribblings every time we get beat.

I find it funny that you get the hump when people do what you've been doing for ages.

Confusing - who do you believe? Personally, I'd rather we were looking at a winger.

Rosicky's Chelsea claim
By Matt Hughes and Raoul Simons, Evening Standard
19 January 2004

Czech international Tomas Rosicky today claimed he has agreed personal terms for a proposed move to Chelsea. The 23-year-old says he is ready to leave Borussia Dortmund providing the two clubs can agree on a fee. Dortmund are in serious financial trouble and German sources claim the club will accept a £10million offer for their star midfielder.

Chelsea's interest in Rosicky is unconfirmed and in many ways would be a surprise considering their interest in Scott Parker which should resolve itself this week with the Charlton player moving to Stamford Bridge. However, Rosicky claimed: "I've known for eight or nine days of Chelsea's interest. It is now down to the clubs to see whether it happens. But if I was them I would not refuse the offer."

Sources close to Rosicky say the player has been told that Chelsea want to sign him now because Juan Veron and Emmanuel Petit are injured while Geremi is on international duty with Cameroon. Dortmund are desperate for money having failed to make this season's Champions League group stage - losing to Belgium's Club Brugge in the third qualifying round.

Club president Gerd Niebaum said of the move: "We don't have an offer from Chelsea and I don't talk about rumours." Rosicky joined Dortmund from Sparta Prague for £10.2m in 2000 and his contract does not expire until 2008. He will be a central figure for the Czech Republic at Euro 2004. "

Czech Cech chooses Chelsea

Czech international goalkeeper Petr Cech has agreed to join Chelsea from French team Stade Rennes at the end of the season, his agent told British newspapers on Tuesday. "Petr's transfer is almost done, but the two clubs still have to confirm everything in writing," Pavel Zika was quoted as saying.

Do you really think its more new players that Chelsea need? You have the quality in the ranks already, plenty of it. I still reckon (and I`ve said this since the day Roman took over at Stamford Bridge) that it will take a season or two for Chelsea to gel - I would also try playing the virtually same 11 every week so the players get used to each other (obviously try a change here and there) I`ve seen Chelsea play some real attacking, exciting football this season, there is no reason why the blues cannot finish top - there is still hell of a way to go in the season yet, and too many people make early predicitions - it`s not over until the last match in May.

He doesn't join till the end of the season, and Carlo is going back to Italy so it's 1 for 1.

Unfortunately, neither of us is manager - everyone else in the world would play a settled 11 except Ranieri. Injuries haven't helped, but he has made the situation even worse.

We do need to beef up the midfield however, Makelele and Lampard are knackered and their replacements Veron and Petit probably won't play again this season (or ever if they're not careful). And we are crying out for a right winger!

A right-winger, eh? Roman should try and prize Beckham away from Real Madrid! Imagine that . . .
What about Dyer? He is quality, still young, got loads to offer, would he consider Chelsea? Would Newcastle let him go?

Also, its good to see Joe Cole getting games now - I think he is brilliant. He will be massive.

Plus i'm sure we'll offload either Sullivan or Ambrosio come summer, no? Certainly Pidgeley I would imagine. Petit could be going back to France too. And yeah, a pacey right winger would be nice. A young one of course, as that seems to be the gameplan.

Professor - "My love for you is like a truck BERZERKER! Would you like to make some f**k BERZERKER!" I think thats how it goes? Keeping on subject, do you guys reckon Parker will move from Charlton to Chelsea?
