Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

Great goal by Lampard, Drogba was amazing in the air (his goal was almost as much a gift as cole's). Thought the penalty was a bit weak, but still Carvalho had one coming, he was using the same arm round the back tactic that worked against Valdes last match...

Only if that walrus ref who kept shoving yellows at people hadn't spoilt it, I mean Ballack went down a little too easy dont you agree?
Ballack didn't need much encouragement to go down, but he was tugged. The silly thing is there was no need to do it, ball wasn't even going to him. You're also very quick to forget Carvalho got away with this against Barcelona, for the goal that decided the tie.

Lampard scored a lovely goal.

The late Bayern goal makes it interesting now.

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

Ballack is a disgrace IMO.

Apart from that, smashing game. Lampard is out of this world sometimes, his technique is unbelieveable.

Sets the return leg up nicely...

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

You think Barca have a poor defence!?

Puyol, Belletti, Gio, Edmilson

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

Edmilson been out injured all season, and GvB was rank at Stamford Bridge. Belletti isn't that great at the back he's a better attacking player, so yes Puyol aside Barcelona aren't great defensively, IMO.

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

I didnt think it was that great a game tbh. It was so tight and compact around the ball hardly any decent football was played. Two great strikes by Lamps though, could he be pushing JT for Player of the Year?

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

I missed the match. Could someone post all the scorers here.

And does this mean that Chelsea only have to make sure they dont conceed twice in the second leg?

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

Chelsea.........4-2........Bayern Munich

J.Cole.....................Schweinsteiger
Lampard 2..................Ballack (P)
Drogba

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

Bayern 2-0 Chelsea (or more, as long as it is clean sheeted) will see off chelski
Bayern 1-0 Chelsea
1-1
2-1
2-2
3-2 (and a chelsea win) will see off the germans... suffice to say, 4-2 for bayern will mean extra time in the second leg

at any rate, goalscorers joe cole (5), bastian schweinsteiger (53), frank lampard (60,70), didier drogba (82), michael ballack (90 PK)

*EDIT* aah you beat me to it mate ;)

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

Good game in the end i thought the first half was very scrappy but u lot were deserved winners!

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

i reckon we can score one or two away goals in Munich and thru to semi.

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

4-2 is an excelent advantage. Of course mourinho will say it's dangerous bla bla bla, but come on... You all know that chelsea in the next game will bet on counter-attack and rock solid defense!

If Robben was playing...

Dammit that Lampard... great goals, both of them!

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

hey blues,

not happy about the 2 goals conceded to a bayern munich with literally no strikers.
Bayern still have a chance, which they dont deserve, drogba was a monster in the air, unstoppable! he took kovac to the cleaners hahah.

Foressal substitution was bad one, i think they should have brought on Jarosik, tall figure, could clear the ball out of the penalty area when we needed so in the end.

Lampard candidate european/world footballer of the year of 2005, come on Frankie your the best, Never seen a more passionate hardworking player than number #8.
Ronaldinho "frank lampard most complete player!"

I really hope some Chelsea players can rest for the 2nd leg on the weekend.
Give Jarosik/Tiago,kezman, Huth, a start on sat.

birmingham coming up saturday, mourinho will be back for that one =).

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

I was disappointed about what Ballack did last night... Diving. But anyway, we still have 2 goals advance and I believe we can score and win at the second leg. Lampard is brilliant last night and Drogba's head passing is amazing as well.

I used to think the squad was a bit nervous at the beginning but they handle the pressure great and back in form soon.

Im not try to say something about referee again but, the performance of the referee lat night is just... shit.

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

i must say, well taken goals by frank the tank lampard... showing that he's got two feet heheh. anyhow, i have a question about the choice of footballs. i noticed it was umbro, and milan - inter's football was sponsored by adidas, milan's sponsor. im assuming that in CL play, the home team sponsor distributes the balls?

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

Good match by Chelsea, in the end they were robbed by Ballack (UEFA really should do something against things like his diving, yes there was a contact but if a referee gives penalty for that contacts there will be 8 or 10 penalties in every football match).
Chelsea again showed that they can win the big cup...if they can eliminate Bayern Munchen (and they will face a very though away match, don't take Bayern elimination for granted)they will win the CL...I would love a final againt Lyon (my favourite team in CL, but they were poor against PSV) or an all English final against Liverpool. I hope Italian teams don't reach the final...

Classic, as much as i like you, your judgement is still clouded by Celtic-Porto two years ago. When will you be able to be objective concerning Porto or a team managed by Mourinho (what would you do if Mourinho became coach of Celtic???). Yesterday Munich made defensive mistakes but they were forced by Chelsea's way of playing (constant pressure from Drogba and Gudjohnsson). And Barcelona have a weak defense because they are one of the most attacking teams in the world.Football for Barcelona and Rijkaard is about scoring more goals than your opponent.Chelsea adpated to that. I think Chelsea could beat Juve or Milan aswell...

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

Gerd. About Classic? is that based on his judgement of the game last night where he posted up the top of the page? :-s I don't see what he's actually said much wrong apart from the penalty decision and Barca decision that he commented on. Sorry if I've missed something.

I think Chelsea have done enough, I can't see Bayern coming back from that without losing a goal over there. Although I have to say it was route 1 footy with Chelsea. I've not been impressed with their actual play all season, nothing actually makes me say 'Wow, that was fantastic', it's more rush rush footy, but it's damn effective. I thought Lampard was getting run ragged at the start, however he came right into the game and his 2 goals where blinders and Terry is one of the best centre-back's around.

I think Chelsea will make the final now, but I think Milan will win it, they look very impressive all over the park.

You are joking aren't you? He had a great game. You can't blame him for Ballack's cheating. From where he was it did look like Ballack had been really pulled back/impeded, when it first happened I thought penalty. Then on the replay we can all see that Ballack made a shit load more of it than was.

The only law governing the ball is UEFA Competitions is that it must be FIFA Approved, so basically the club kit maker will provide the matchball to get more media coverage. For example whenever a nike team are at home a Nike ball will be used, Adidas team ---> adidas ball etc. Except for the final, where the actual CL ball will be used.

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

im sorry but theres no way chelsea can moan about the penalty considering half their players do exactly the same thing whenever anyone touches them in the box. im sure joe cole is trying to single handedly destroy the claim that english players dont dive.

to be fair though chelsea have done brilliantly in the champions league and if milan dont win it they probably should. all in all not bad for a team whos main rivals used to be qpr 10 years ago !!! seriously can you guys remeber when qpr and chelsea were big rivals and qpr used to be better ? its quite amazing how far they've come.

for them to beat barca and munich without robben is really impressive. if they can add the likes of adriano, joaquin and gerrard to the team model and ethos they have at the moment they could easily go on to dominate europe for the next 5 years atleast.

Yes! I totally agree faiers. Joe Cole does dive quite a lot. The Carling Cup final was his worst show in terms of diving so far IMO.

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

FD (and Classic): no i agree partially with his last posting: yesterday Chelsea were cheated just like Carvalho cheated against Barcelona (although i still think they deserved to go through). Some postings before that there was a discussion about Chelsea's defensive and offensive record in this thread and someone said that Chelsea scored quite a lot. Classic replied that it was against teams who have weak defenses like Barcelona and Bayern Munchen... My last post was a reply to that one...
I have the impression that Classic is still embittered by Celtic's loss in that final and i have an on-and-off-going discussion with him and others that british teams (possibly with the exception of Chelsea under Mourinho)can't adapt their playing style against diving teams. I would like to continue that discussion but this isn't the right place to do it.
About the ref yesterday, not that i think he was outstanding, but you can't blame him for the penalty. Referees can't see everything. UEFA should sanction players like Carvalho and Ballach post factum, that would help referees.
Generally speaking i think there's far too much and easy criticism on referees. It's a hard job and i sympathize with them. Why is it that fans and managers always complain about referees in matches where forwards (inevitabily) always miss big chances...every forward misses chances in every game...this is accepted by everybody. Why don't we accept the fact that referees have to take decisions in a split second and that they can't always see everything that happens on the pitch???

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

:applause: Well said gerd.

One thing I think should be implemented is that currently the referee books a player for diving. I think this should be increased to a sending off. It's blatant cheating. If he cheats by diving then he will cheat in other ways.

If ref's started sending players off for dives they would get the message.

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

I agree but i think they should be punished after games if the refs haven't noticed the diving. That would end it.

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

Gerd - Okay, just wasn't sure, ta. I don't actually like Mourinho myself more because of the way he acts and contradicts himself time after time i.e. defending, diving etc, not because he was the Porto manager. Although I don't like Porto too much since that game as the way they played, most notably Deco and Derlei. Grudges can be kept, Juventus?

Yep definetely after the game, no way could you do that. Can't remember the countless incidents where a player has been booked for supposedly diving but in the replay he's been fouled. The game could become a farce.

Re: Chelsea FC thread (13 points clear)

Six months hard lanour should sort the diving cheats out. :applause: ....or am I being a little harsh here?
