your kidding me right? all sports teams try to be GLOBAL. Now the only reason chelesea has never reached the hights of man united or real madrid, is because they have never ever won anything..... everyone likes a winner right... but my point is, dont kid yourself if you think chelesea is now just trying to be global, that is insane. They have always tried this, but now since they are one of the top teams in europe, people are taking notice and thus you will have more as you say "glory hunters" which i think you implied that i am. Well in 1986 my dad got me a Manchester United jersey from England cause he was on TDY there, he also got me a bryan robson traninig book(that might have been later)... ever since then i have loved the club cause of that one t-shirt, at the time i had never heard of manchester united.... you decide if im a glory hunter, i have no tie to man u other then that jersey, but so what if i wasnt born in england, or manchester for that matter, i support a team that is miles and miles away, but the point is, im intrested, im intrested in football, this has lead me to enjoy and watch more football, thus more money is put into the sport, here in america and abroad, if you europeans want to keep your teams to yourself, thats fine, but you probably wont establish the dominance of teams likeProfessor Nutmeg said:Seems like a lot of cash, eh. I was under the impression we were to let the Umbro deal expire. This is all to do with Kenyon and Chelsea wanting to market the club as a global brand. Saunders, as a person who associates himself with Man Utd from his DC abode, you should be familiar with the concept. I personally don't care about Chelsea as a brand, i just want to see the club do well on the pitch and challenge for honours. The brand thing just entices a new genration of glory seekers from overseas, or anywhere nowhere near Chelsea, or even London, to start supporting them. I mean just look at the amount of Real Madrid and Man Utd supporters around the world. What connection do they possibly have with the clubs?I remember at school in the early 80s, all the kids supported Liverpool because of their success, and that was in London! In the 90s you started to see people pledging their support to Man Utd, as they began to dominate that decade. In more recent years loads of people (in London at least) seem to be supporting Arsenal. If Chelsea become successful, and sustain it over a long period of time, sadly this will happen too
People seem to think that when Roman leaves, in 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, 10 years, that the club will be up the creek without a paddle. The truth is it's not likely to happen, now that our outstanding debts were cancelled. Even if the club didn't become globally recognised and begin to bring in more revenue from around the world as a direct consequence, the fact remains that we wouldn't have the debt that we once had, hanging over our head. Yes, we wouldn't be able to sustain paying the high wages if Roman left: a) we then begin to go into debt again (way below most other clubs. b) we sell the players on, and recoup.
cmon classic, some will piss off, but not all of them, you all love a team for a reason, and once you get some people hooked, there hoooked!! i can honestly say if man u sucked i would still root for them, i have ZERO ties to the new york giants, but threw thick and thin i have always loved them and watched as many games as i can.... glory hunting is one thing, but it does not all lead to fair weather fans.... I would like to know what your definitions of glory hunter is, how can you prove to me your not one for celtic what is the criteria?ClassicD said:When he leaves, and assuming a similar person doesn't take over, like you say you'll no longer be able to pay those kind of wages or deal in the transfer market the way you do now. It will have to be a clear-out of Leeds proportions when that day comes, but the most depressing thing for the actual Chelsea fans will be having to accept a poorer quality of squad being the norm, having been used to such a great team. The glory hunters will just piss off when that happens.
OK, i am glad you cleared that up, so a glory hunter is another term for a fair weather fan.... ok i get that part..... i guess my point is, if someone likes a team and decides that is thare team, adn they stick with them unitl death, then thats ok...... but only liking a team when there good, well that sucks and you should be called a glory hunter, prof, i probaply would redo my post, now that i have a better understanding of glory hunter.... and if next year i am a chelsea fan, then i deserve to be called one...ClassicD said:Someone who's support for a team wanes as they perform to a poorer level, and who don't mind supporting more than one team or leaving them to support another. People who continue to support the team through thick and thin aren't glory hunters, of course they ain't!
As for me, I started supporting Celtic when I started getting into football, around 1989. Dunno how up to speed you are on our history but that was the beginning of being trophy-less for six years, and Rangers winning the league for 9 consecutive seasons. As well as my club being hours from the wall. I'm hardly a glory-hunter .
What a Prediction!pbchillin said:Any predictions for the game against Portsmouth?, i reckon 3-0 Chelsea.
Butatista said:2. Robben - This boy is class, its frightening to think how good he can become.
RuneEdge said:The difference between Chelsea and Man Utd was that Chelsea were much more organised and had a smarter manager. You deserved to win cuz the team wanted it more. Sir Alex was more concerned about the FA Cup tie on Saturday which IMO was a big mistake.
You lot could win a treble but I can't see you winning the CL. Man Utd aren't playing at their best right now and we still made it difficult for you so imagine what bigger teams like Barcelona and Juventus will do.
BTW, When do you lot play Arsenal in the league?
Butatista said:20th April at the Bridge. Could be all over by then.....
i thought that was one of robbens least impressive performances, seemend the united defenders had him in check most of the game(with the exception of the two shots he had on howard), and i dont recall him blazing past giggs, as i dont think i have ever seen that happen from anyone....Professor Nutmeg said:I know, at one point he appeared to be jogging, yet Giggs was sprinting behind him, and this was whilst Robben was dribbling
Vannizzlefashizzal said:lol, pathetic, its jan you support the current champs and you already think they've won it.
Butatista said:No I don't think they've won it but I am a realist. Its looking good for them. We play them 4 or 5 games from the end so realistically it could be. You will be right out of it by early April so I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.
Vannizzlefashizzal said:we'll finish second and im happy with that......
LOL now that was funny!! good one there Butatista!Butatista said:At least if you finish second its an improvement on last season.
Butatista said:Well who's pathetic now.....first is everywhere, second is nowhere. If we finish second I won't be happy, we want to win it!! Every season!!
At least if you finish second its an improvement on last season.
Milan playmaker Kaka has admitted he is flattered to be linked with Chelsea.
Moneybags Chelsea are thought to have made Brazilian international Kaka their top transfer target for next summer.
Reports emanating from England have suggested Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wants to bring Kaka to Stamford Bridge.
Kaka admits he is flattered by the reports, but insists he plans to stay at Milan for some time yet.
"I'm flattered by Chelsea's interest," said Kaka. "It's a good thing to have interest in Europe, but I'm a Milan player and Milan are my home.
"Should Chelsea make an extraordinary offer? It would be Milan that will have to take a decision.
"Anyway I prefer to stay at Milan."
