Newcastle is a great club, but it does not deserve the merit to be compared with the likes of a great club like Benfica.

PS: His name is Pablo César Aimar not Juan my friend. :LOL:

Ok, now that Aimar is our #10, next step should be the buy of a good striker and a decent right back. Il piccolo bomdardiere Miccoli is our passion and Giourkas Seitaridis is my personal option.

Nice transfer hope he shows value cous Quique doesn't seem to go by the names. Im not really expecting a 1st place for the 2008/2009, but after all these transfers and changing the team, i just want to be in the CL next season, second place is good enough for me.

PS: Special one, podes me dizer se o jogo no Estoril pagas bilhete? Se sim quanto?

what do you guys think about adu's loan ?
i think it might be good for him, if he plays more than he did at benfica but i'm a bit worried that if he has success monaco might buy him and we don't know how much is his "clasula de rescisao"

We are bad at forming new players, period. The example of Deco shows how bad Benfica is at recognizing talents, so he does some trainings in Benfica they say he isn't good enough then send him FC Alverca in the second division, he played well there then benfica decided to let him go, he signed a contract with Porto and from there he won everything. This clearly explains how Bad we are and eventually how many talents we let go, how many Ronaldos and Figos could be in the National team and are at home because Benfica didn't give them a chance. The funny thing is that in the Estoril game (1-1) Quique used some Juniors from the academy, but god they are awful, the couldn't create a single opportunity of clear goal, in the end they let the good ones go and the bad ones stay, absurd...
About Adu, i never like to watch a talent go out, and Adu is a pure talent that needs help to grow and become a pro, too bad he is in a bad team for that, he should have accepted the offer of ManU, he would be playing a lot more by now. But oh well, hope he shuts up Benficas mouth and performs rly well in Monaco. Best of Luck to you Adu!

it looks like sidnei has signed for us
i'm very surprised with this buy
firstly because i've never heard of him and we've spent 5 million on him
secondly because i don't see the need for another centre-back as we already had 5 in the squad
i frankly don't know where we're getting all this money but i guess i'll just have to trust on the maestro

Milan were after him back in January and last summer, he's meant to be quite highly rated.

he'll probably be loaned or sold but he's still part of the squad
and even if we had only 4, that's how many we need
i think we should keep miguel vitor and loan/sell edcarlos and zoro now or maybe in january depending on how long david luiz will be out

just because i never heard of him doesn't mean he's not a quality, i hope he is cause benfica can't afford to pay 5 million euros for a player who's not solid

Exactly what he said, word for word.
Now a backup for Leo (Drenthe would be an Amazing acquisition) a new and consistent DMF (Petit is too inconsistent, Katso only when he wants and now he wants to leave, Bynia is good but he seemed so out of the Estoril game that i now doubt about his actual capacitys) a new striker and we may have a chance at second winning or getting a second place this season.

Benfica is betting quite alot this season.

I can understand the reasoning behind this, since next season only 2 teams will get to play the CL.


If it fails, well, let's just say you'll spend quite some time recovering.

Benfica's not that poor! They've just been holding back and trying not to spend that much money in the last couple of years. Obviously, the lack of results made it impossible to keep this sort of "economical mentality". To build up a good a team you've got to have good players... and those cost good money.

Besides, I still remember Domingos Soares de Oliveira saying Benfica could well spend 20 million euros per season without hurting the club's financial stability.

They're not exactly loaded, but they can afford these expenses.

it's time to loan or sell player to shorten the squad i think that there are 4 player who must not be part of the squad
luis filipe, edcarlos, binya (probably the worst player i ever seen playing for benfica and i've seen a lot of bad players) and makukula
it also seems that petit is leaving (good luck to him) so i think the squad should be:
quim, moreira, bruno costa
nelson, pereira, leo, ribeiro, luisao, david luiz, sidnei, m.victor
yebda, bastos, katsouranis, amorim, martins, di maria, assis, balboa, aimar and another winger
cardozo, n.gomes, urreta and another striker

Way too many :P Yebda, Fellipe Bastos, Amorim, Carlos Martins, Pablo Aimar, Nuno Assis (this one will probably leave, though).

I'd love to see Tiago return, but we have other priorities right now.

Good signing Aimar . But he doesn't play euro 08.He played in the 2002 and 2006 World Cups.

The kid seems a lil 2 overrated, and didn't score a single goal last season.. Benfica is not the greatest at recovering players or bringing them back to a good shape so i really don't expect a Good reyes for next season, yet i don't believe the way quique is letting them play they seem a 10% better team from last season but ALL the problems are still there.

how can assis go and binya stay is beyond me....
anyway, regarding makukula, if the 5 million offer is real i'd accept it immediatly, benfica will never recover the investement in another way
