I have a question.

A friend of mine was temporarily shut off from internet by his provider (around the same time when the 5vs5 patch was released. When he was reconnected by his provider he started up Fifa but the game did not ask him to download the patch. He has been online several with Fifa several times since but the message that there is a patch does not pop up. Does anyone have an idea what he should do to get the 5vs5 mode?

You have to have it to play against other players online, otherwise you'll have different versions and the game won't let you proceed. So if he can still play online, at all, then surely he must have the patch?

All I can suggest is, if he's got an Xbox 360, clear the hard drive cache and see if that helps.

He can only use the online options that were available from the start. He does not have the be a pro 5vs5 online option that was added later. It's on ps3 btw.

That is very weird, I would think the game wouldn't let him play online if that was the case because the versions will be mismatched with the other players. Perhaps if you delete all of the FIFA 08 data stored on the PS3 (making a backup first if possible - bear in mind I don't have a PS3 so I don't know if it is or it isn't), then it will be forced into the update the next time it's booted?

Or do you have to manually download game patches on the PS3?

I have a ps3 and as far as i can remember it works the same as on my 360. Boot up the game and the game will tell you / ask you. To download the patch.

I'll tell him to remove his fifa savegame/profile. That might be a good idea. Thanks Jack.

As answered a number of times already, if he's not getting the update automatically he needs to turn on automatic download of updates in his PS3 settings, doesn't common sense tell these people if they're not getting the update to look in their settings?.......

Fuck it. Shitty AI meant our AI controlled players kept dallying on the ball and were CONSTANTLY being tackled and leaving us completely open at the back, constantly. What's the use in being one player when the rest of the AI team is shite? Can't be arsed, if we lost because the human players were shite then fair enough. But it pisses me off to constantly be on the back foot and under pressure because the AI walks into the opposition with the ball or spins around in a circle waiting to be tackled.

Enough for me for tonight, game has pissed me off too much after only two matches.

Edit: Bitter and J79 have came online, maybe that'll prevent the AI from fucking up games. It's odd how the AI is shit when you play Be A Pro but playing a normal game and it's MUCH better?

Its soooo frustrating.

The reaction times, coupled with players running in to each other, and the shit AI really ruin it. You have to have a human at the back to distubute it properly without getting tackled.

Was having connection problems so I'm gonna pack it in for the night. Was 'fun' none-the-less :D

The AI is so shocking it's untrue. And I have to admit, it does ruin most of the games.

But just that feel of when you make a good move and combine some passing and fashion a chance, totally trumps the bad AI feeling :)

Hey, I'd be great at that. I'd be a lot more comfortable only having to touch the ball three or four times a half than being anywhere else...

I meant 10v10 actually, but still, I wouldn't mind being the goalie!

I'm about ready to give up on playing online altogether I think. The AI really winds me up and it doesn't matter how well the human players do because 9/10 the goals you concede are because the AI fucked up. No offense meant but I also see more cut-back goals on FIFA than I ever have on PES online, which again is frustrating as it's taking advantage of shite AI and the AI of the DC's not having a clue.
