But we don't spend that amount of money nearly every season like the other big clubs do. Think about that.

Just on that whole 4 'local' players thing - wasn't that announced to be a requirement for the UEFA comps soon? Or was it just an idea? Something like at least 4 local players in the first team and 2 in the squad, with those numbers increasing over time? Can't remember if the head of UEFA got it passed though.

I'm with whoever on here was saying as long as you play your heart out for your club it doesn't matter where you're from.
 
Ok so if every 'english premiership club' had all foriegners in their sqauds and no team in the premiership had any english players in it, would you be satisfied with that? is it right that a socalled english league has no english players in it?

How many times are we gonna have to hear this. This issue isnt about what "counts" or what the rules are. Chelsea havent broken any rules when Roman spends all that money yet people still complain. Why? Because its unethical and breaks unwritten rules that we all have but dont bother mentioning cuz we expect everyone to obey them. Its the same issue with not playing any English or British players in your side. This is also like when players like Deco who was originally from Brazil, now plays for Portugal. Just cuz its in the rules, it doesnt make it morally right. If this was about whats allowed and what isnt allowed, we wouldnt be sitting here debating this.
And dont give me the BS about not having enough money cuz of you look at the English or British players at Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool, excluding the BIG signings of SWP and Rooney, how much have those teams actually spent on their players?

Thats £62million in total and £5.6million on average per player.

Sure some of these teams spend big money on individual players but the amount of money they save on homegrown talent makes up for it as the average figure shows cuz this clearly means they're better off if you look at the long term effect it will have on the team's finances. So I guess its partly a problem with Arsenal not spending wisely which then questions whether or not Wenger's judgement is as great as you gooners think it is.
If Arsenal had the youth system that dedicated its time to English players then maybe you'd also have save some money on transfers that could then be used on big signings in the future.
Its too late now cuz your team's expectations are too big and this doesnt give you the time to start from scratch and base this team around young British blood. So bascially, you dug your own grave.

Wenger's spending record in the transfer market is unquestionably good. We have a net spend less than Utd, Chelsea, Spurs, Newcastle etc and yet we are still up there challenging.

Toure - £500,00
Senderos = £500,000
Eboue = £1m
Ljungberg = £3m
Vieira = £3m - Sold for £13m
Fabregas = £500,000
Anelka = £500,000 - Sold for £23m!!
Henry = £10m
Overmars = £7m - Sold for £25m

These are just a few examples. Need I go on? The guy is a genius in the transfer market.

I would love to see more English players in the first team but they are so over-priced, I mean £6m for Glen Johnson? We have promoted many English players from youth team but none of them have made the grade. Pennant, Bentley, Taylor, Hughes etc but they weren't up to the high standard required to play for Arsenal.

I really don't care what nationalities the players are who play for Arsenal are as long as we are successful. Arsenal's priorities are Arsenal not England.

All the players you listed do not collectively have anything in common - O'Shea and Finnan are Irish. They are about as British as Kolo Toure.

I didn't miss the point, I was explaining that I don't care where the players come from who play for Arsenal, maybe you missed the point.

:applause: Well said CE. It doesn't matter where the players come from. And if we had the spending power of Chelsea, Yanited and Liverpool we'd invest in them. But I'd much rather we go abroad for players who have hunger and are just as good if not better than their British equivilants.

And FYI, You DID miss the point. I just explained how easy it is to have British players in your team like how other teams around you seem to have. So Wenger has no excuses for not having any many British players in his side.

Even after all the millions that Abramovich spent, Mourinho said he never wants to sell Lampard or Terry cuz a) he wants a English core in this team and b) he (rightfully) feels that when coaching in England, its one of his duties to develop English players to support the national team.
Two very important points that Wenger doesnt understand and I'm sure most of this country (excluding gooners) agree that its a shame.

Arsenal are not known for their ethics or class. Any english player they have given a chance has either been a plain thug or got a reputation.

Why would we want more English players? We could have the English national side and we still wouldn't win the league. And why do you care? Just because you have 7 or 8 English players in your club makes yours so much greater? What an a-hole.

they could be great with a good coach and tactics. but after the first 11-15 players there's not much else.

If you want to challenge for the big prizes, you need good players and there simply aren't that many English players that are good enough. It's an entertainment business and the fans want to see the best players.

Lets end this stupid debate with an analogie.

A new multiplex cinema opens but they show 90% English films. Only one or two foreigners (US, etc) films are allowed to be shown. Would you go regularly?
