They could have scored 2-nil surely but the problem was that their right back (the bald one) isn't very good at football. The way he struck that ball, I'd say it was flattering that it even hit the post
I think these last performances both in the Premier League and CL (and why not the League Cup exit at the hands of the good Southampton team) should lit up some sort of alert signs at Arsenal. The team isn't playing well, our defending is suspect to say the least (especially with a makeshift defense) and our attacking play is too predictable and easy to mark.
Just because we snatched all 3 points in the end it doesn't mean all is well. We have to remember that with the loss we would stay at 3 points in this CL group (or at 4 with the draw), which would leave us 5 or 6 points adrift from group leaders Dortmund.
We've been scraping through to get 2nd place in our group every season and that is a problem in itself, because we probably get Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern and exit at the Last 16. It pisses me off seeing the same patterns repeating themselves.
And that includes our injury problems. Not to justify our poor performances of late, but the players we have sidelined with injury can almost make up a good starting 11 lineup:
------------Ospina----------------
Debuchy----Koscielny---N/A---N/A--
---------(Arteta?*)---------------
-------Diaby----------------------
----------------Özil--------------
---Walcott---------------Gnabry---
-----------Giroud (and Sanogo)----
*I'm not sure if Arteta was suspended or injured yesterday.
Some things seem to never change, and this perenial injury crisis at Arsenal is one of them. Is it too early to expect an impact from Shad Forsythe in the medical team? Should we wait another season to judge?
The fact is that things keep repeating and Wenger knowing pretty well how it goes, still chooses to leave us so short on defense.
It's becoming more and more difficult to defend Wenger's madness, because the problems stem from inside the club mostly. Yes, we know sugar daddy clubs outspend us comprehensively every year, our players are too injury prone, our season aways collapses at some point, etc. But what has been done to address our internal problems. Not much from what I can see.
