Arsenal Thread

I'm thinking we'll see the following tonight..

Arshavin----Eduardo----Bendtner

----Denilson--------Diaby------

-----------Song----------------

Clichy--Vermaelen--Gallas--Sagna

---------Almunia--------------

I think it'll be a comfortable game, and we should press from the off. I just hope we're not caught out by a long ball, or makers of our own demise.

Thing is you guys are devastating on the counter at the minute, as you showed against Everton. The onus is on them to score so if they're pouring forward you should be able to kill them with Diaby, Arshavin and Eduardo.

Im just hoping for a good game and not a complete humping for the hoops.

If, and its a big if, we score early it might make things a bit interesting, but Im not holding my breath :)

As Wenger said the job is not done yet.

I dont think we will bomb forward as we know Arsenal's counters are awesome. I think we will play pretty much like the first leg, but try and get a few more shots on target at least!

Here's to a good match.

I think it will be physical and possibly a bit edgy from the off. If we score early then it could be a mauling but if we concede early it will be the first real test for this side. Interesting either way.

Very light rain in North London today but still temperate outside. Perfect weather for slick football I think. My first home game of the season, hope it's not our last European fixture.

I'm starting to dislike Arsenal, they are reminding me of that old Arsenal with players trying to show how manly and tough they are, just like Ljunberg and Henry in old days.
Whats up with Arshavin celebrations who is it that is suppose to shut up every single time?
I have the impression that he is a big big douche. Is he? Can someone confirm it?
Not to mention diving Eduardo, common Arsenal are better than this.

ironicly in the old days you mention, thats when we was winning things nevermind challenging for the major honours.

Yes eduardo dived but lets move on. if he carry's on diving then it will be a problem but again is eduardo the only player to dive? Torres, Gerrard, Drogab etc etc all dived

The dive was a bit unnecessary, it's not like Arsenal were desperate for a goal to tie the game or something, but like you say he's not the first person to do it and won't be the last.

The other 2 goals were great though.

Well, Eduardo was looking for the tackle and the GK knee bump his boot even though he decided to fall before the touch. If anything Celtics started playing better from that point until Eboue goal which was a peachy set up. Anyhow we got some funds so lets bring in 2 players :BOP: If we get an injury it could all crash down , but for now Well done tonight :WORSHIP:

Andy Townsend was going on like it was the first dive ever. I love to hit that fucker on the other side of the nose to straighten it out.

It was a dive, and i was mixed about cheering the penalty - kinda embarrassed. Now i know how United fans must of felt with Greasy Ronny in all those games.. ;) Just Jokes.

I see your point and don't get me wrong I used to love that Arsenal, but their attitude sometimes felt a bit unnecessary, that Keown RvN thing for example.
I remember a lot of teams getting into trouble against Arsenal, cause their players fell into Arsenal provoke, is that the term? I have bad english :(
My only point is that I don't wanna see that team goes that way, leave that attitude for the Ballacks, Evras and Rooneys kind, just to name a few.

And yes lets forget Eduardo dived, he made a mistake.

What about Arshavin is he a nice guy? Maybe he is but I've never saw his interviews to make an opinion. I'd really like to know how he is in person, cause like I said before he certainly looks like a douchebag.

Arshavin is too honest and has a funny sense of humor. Arshavin would of protest the penalty w/ his same finger over the mouth celebration.

Celtic in both matches just tackle and hold on to players . After a while getting knocked on your arse only because they can`t follow the pass/ball is getting a bit too easy. So, Eduardo most likely figured these slow bruts will swipe me clean and then he falls in dismay they didnt touch him. He wasn`t going to protest and the ref already saw this team do senseless tackles and holding on to players.

Celtic made it hard on themselves Arsenal are not the same group that falls and cries .From twisted sister "We`re Not going to take IT!"They`re in their 20`s now :BOP:

Diving is just one of various things player use to gain advantage.

It's just as bad as shirt pulling or John Terry standing in front of the keeper preventing him from making a save, time wasting etc

If the ref falls for it, too bad

Like Arsene stated Ryan Babel dived to get Liverpool back in the CL qtr final 2 seasons ago after we took the lead and we got knockout cold. The retarded pundit ignored it.

I the first leg the ref refused to award us a clear penalty after Kyut raped Hleb.

Unless Fifa brings in video technology and allow these situations to be challenged we just have to life with it.

It's not like Eduardo is a player that always falls to the ground after the slightest contact.

Edu expected Buric to make contact but Buric made sure he didnt but Edu already made up is mind he was going down.

Shocking dive but lets get it into perspective....they way ITV were bleating on about it you would think it was the first dive to win a pen in the entire history of football!! Then Dalglish starts piping up about the attitude of "foreigners" being different to the British and you could feel the xenophobia pouring out from my TV screen.

The media have short memories. It was acceptable for Michael Owen to dive at 2 consecutive World Cups to win penalties for England but Eduardo does it once and its the worse thing ever....

I am not condoning Eddie but lets keep it real. I have to say that ITV's coverage is shocking....Iceman is correct, Andy Townsend deserves a slap.

Forget all that diving nonsense, its a pointless discussion.

Overall I thought you put on a good show. Nice passing, good goals, saturday should be a good game (even though IMO, you're going in with the edge).

Might have had something to do with the clear shirt pulling in the area. However, how can Arsene slate divers and claim for them to be banned (back in 2004) and then never see the incident when its an Arsenal player accused of doing it and then defend his players when he has seen the incident.

However, the whole thing has been blown out of proportion and now you've got people talking about the Naylor tackle again, which is disgraceful.

Theres a difference between hurting someone on purpose and doing something that all footballers do at all levels, including your Gerrard's/Ronaldo's/Eto's etc

Hi, does anyone know how to get tickets to see an arsenal game? do you have to be a member for X amount of years before you are qualified to pre order and buy tickets or can i simply walk into the stadium a week or maybe a month in advance and pre order some tickets?

I ask because before it was impossible to get a ticket to see arsenal play at the emirates as you either had to be a member for X amount of years ie gold, silver member, or had to live next door to the blooming stadium if you wanted a season ticket!

O so Rafa is honest and tells it how it is? doubt it. name me a top flight manager who has admited that their player dived

I don't understand why they still refuse to use cameras on stuff like this, it could have been sorted in 10 seconds, before they even got the ball back on the field.

All this keeping it pure and grass roots is crap.

I'd rather see cheats punished hard at the top levels so it's instilled in the kids it's wrong and not 'a part of the game' as it is labelled now...

Sauce, Arshavin seems like a really nice guy in interviews, so I doubt he is a douche :))

Also have to disagree with the old Arsenal jibes about the old arsenal provoking teams?! The thing with RVN was that he was one of the most sly dishonest players in the premier league, he cheated alot and tried to get people booked. Thats why Keown acted the way he did, because he saw that knob not benefit from his cheating.

Anyway, The game. We were much the better team and the dive was shitty and I hate it. But many english players dive Rooney did it when we lost our invincible run and the liverpool player in the champions league against us (Think Babel?). Also Owen that has been mentioned, Drogba (Not english)dives more than he runs etc etc

It is just so ridiculous that this one is getting so much attention seeing as it was on the whole so insignificant (The other divers above results were more significant). We were much the better team and deserved the win over the both legs. So people just need to get over it!

I really hope Eduardo doesn't keep diving aswell, he is much much better than that. It does take the shine off a bit when you know one of your players was dishonest.

But it could all be sorted so easily if they just looked back on it and gave out 3 match bans. I bet you would hardley see a dive then?

Anyway role on Saturday and hopefully we keep the momentum going and make sure we don't lose.

That's not true. The club have had a membership system in place for years with Red, Silver and Gold levels. It was often near impossible to get a Premier League game at Highbury because of demand but even then I managed to buy a few Champs League and Carling Cup tickets with a Red membership. Now you can regularly get Red level seats even for Premier League games thanks to the bigger stadium. Sign up through the website, costs about £30 (didn't say it was cheap ;))).

Indeed. It only takes one replay to spot a dive, offside goal, dirty tackle, off the ball incident etc etc. If TV cameras can do it then what's the problem? Refs just need to look at the big screens :)

It was a dive, and a bit of a needless one it has to be said. We benefited this time but we've also lost out on just as many occasions. I've never bought this 'football balances itself out in the end' bullshit. This is a professional sport, we really should have left this golden-ageist, nostalgic woofle back in the dark ages. Embrace technology.

I want to put the dive to bed......... but......... if it wasn't Celtic on the receiving end, do you think the ITV pundity would have bleated on about it?

Also, one moment of comedy gold was last night when the presenter on ITV (can't remember his name) said, "it's all exciting with the big teams of Europe, AZ, Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich now in the group stage".

Kenny Daglish responded "Well AZ sold all their players, Wolfsburg got rid of their coach and Bayern haven't won a game this season"....

"oh"..

does each person need to be a member or just me? if its just me as a member, can i purchase 2-3 tickets if need be or just one for myself?

how much notice do you need to buy tickets? say if i was a red member and wanted to buy a ticket now, what would be the earliest date i can purchase a few?

I think you can buy 2-3 with one membership, depending on the game sometimes. The way it works; tickets for say Arsenal vs Blackburn go on sale first to Gold, then a few days later to Silver, then a few days later to Red and if there's any left after that (rarely) they go on general sale where any Joe Schmoe can buy one.

I personally know a few season ticket holders and pick up their spares for the majority of my games, but I've also got Red level membership and I've noticed that since the move there are a lot more games on sale these days due to larger capacity. All the 'big' games will usually sell out very quickly, so best to forget Liverpool, Chelsea, Man Utd and Sp*rs, but other games aren't too bad. Champions League is easier to buy because most people can't be arsed to go up mid week or can't get out of work I guess.

Funnily enough tickets for United and Arsenal are still on sale?! (I think?) A season or 2 back it they would be snapped up within the hour. I don't think its that difficult to get tickets to the big games.
