Arsenal Thread

Totally agree with you there. His time at Arsenal felt like a huge struggle. Its not like the player was lazy or anything, Arsenal just werent the team for him.

I agree but there are more intelligent ways of going about leaving. You don't start making comments about refusing to wear the Arsenal shirt ever again. He also shouldn't have signed that contract extension.

I wish him well in Spain though.

what is baptista mind frame? He does not want to leave,I hope he will be like tiago who left sad ,but perform well for Lyon

Baptista obviously doesn't want to leave, but even after his great performance in the last couple real madrid games where he put the whole team on his back, he never really got that respect he deserved.

The Real Madrid staff where talking to him for weeks, trying to make him accept a move to arsenal.

Every player from brazil except emerson is on capello's list of players he would give up if the money is good(robinho, cicinho, ronaldo and baptista). It's obvious that the players are not exactly happy about it, at least that how i see it, and the fans are not exactly happy about either.

what a coup for west ham so unexpected.

well baptista is in, i need to see some more of him i only saw a little of real games last year, but if he is a 'BEAST', then its good we need someone who can bully players around.

and coles out, damn good left back, but if clichy can come in, and hell even flamini did a amazing job last year. all the best to him but this whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth.

and gallas, i think this is what we have lacked for a good while now, quality center back, and i mean real quality, him and toure should be great.

The best bit of business done yesterday was getting £2 million for Cygan!!!

have Villareal ever seen him play?

He will probably end up being amazing for them! (then again probably not)

I wish him well, It must have been horrible to be at a club where the fans thought you were a joke. He did have a couple of good games for us.

But I am glad he isn't an Arsenal player anymore.

I like the Gallas move hopefully he fits in well, but not sure about Baptista. Didn't he say not very nice things about Arsenal when he moved to Madrid? (because Arsenal were after him).

I am happy with what we have done. Thank god we got rid of Cashley as I never wanted him to see him our shirt ever again, he don't deserve to wear it. Gallas coming in means we are strong at CB again. Toure, Gallas, Senderos and Djourou, quality stuff. Baptista remains a gamble I think but lets give the lad a chance, he has got to be a better member of the squad than Jose "I wish I was in Spain" Reyes. He has never really done it for us so its "good bye and good luck Jose".

Pascal for £2m well I will take that! I think it shows we have no money whatsoever as in all our dealings yesterday the Arsenal coffers swelled by £7m. Interesting stuff, where has our transfer budget gone?

To be fair, arsenal have got their stadium debts to pay off. Even so you can say they have done pretty well this summer in the market, except for letting Campbell go for nothing.

our staff is not enough...IMO..we need some genıusplayer...especially cmf,dmf players...:(

ı rote by mistake sorry.....ı had said this..in fact our staff is so good..but we still need some players..IMO...

im a little unsure about Baptista but im kinda glad we got rid of reyes. My girlfried (another arsenal supporter - always a good sign) even thinks so, and says the only reason that she wanted him to stay was because "hes fit"

cygan, meh he was alright as a sub but no where near good enough to be first team

we should have got some money for sol

im happy about gallas and glad cole has gone, it just got a bit too primary school for me, perhaps wenger wont be his best friend or go to his birthday party now :(

That's cause the bastard tricked us by wanting to go abroad!

thats if cole even invites him :lmao: remember his wedding?

god, im so glad we've moved him on.

lol. i really do wish reyes well. he didnt go about stating his ambitions in the best manner, but i understand how he must feel. i wouldnt like to be somewhere im not happy, especially not till 2011. atleast he was honest about it and didnt go behind anybodys back.

we have to remember, though, this is only a loan deal. whats to say we wont be seeing reyes back in an arsenal shirt next season? its not impossible for him to have a bad season with madrid.

Under Capello, anything can happen!

Nice to see a Brazilian contingent building up again... Baptista, Gilbero and Denilson. I haven't seen Denilson play, anyone know about his exploits at Sao Paulo?

Also, did we sign Shila Elliasu in the end? He was on trial from Ghana.

Where's Baptista gonna play?

He's not really a DMF, his threat comes from getting into decent forward positions and battering in goals from range or winning headers in the box. I think he might provide a decent foil for Henry, but will he be competition for Fabregas? Personally I don't think that's a bad thing, as gifting a 19 year old a guaranteed place in the first eleven is no way for a top prem club to operate. However, it still raises the issue of Gilberto having no competition for his position.

Surely Rosicky will be played as a direct replacement for Pires on the left now. Winger-wise we've got Hleb, Freddie, Walcott and Rosicky. That should be enough but I do have a slight worry that we're looking to play too many people out of their natural positions. Rosicky in all honesty is a central midfielder. Hleb was quoted a little while back saying that he prefered a central berth, however his developing partnership with Eboue should see him stuck out wide for the forseeable future. Personally, I've always prefered Freddie in an inside role, and now that his legs are waning is he really gonna be up for bombing up the touch line and spanking in a cross from the corner flag?

It's almost like Wenger has developed a contempt for out and out wingers and is looking to play 4 or 5 central mids across the park. It's a long time since we were a 'cross -> headed goal' team, but you have to fear that this penchant for keeping the ball on the deck is gonna come back and bite us in the arse eventually. The bottom line is that sometimes you have to play dirty to win dirty. Arsenal are tops at wonderful, sweeping interplay, not so hot at getting a scrappy goal when it's absolutely needed.

Could our first eleven look something like this?

-------------Lemon

---------Toure----Gallas
Eboue----------------------Clichy/Flamini

--------------Gilberto
-------------------Fabregas
------Baptista------------------Rosicky
Hleb

-----------------Henry

That's not bad at all, but what does it say for Van Persie and Adebayor? Maybe Van P will be used more as a winger? He played there very effectively for Holland at the WC. He's certainly got the legs for it, and it would provide a further option out wide.

Overall, it looks like Wenger is taking a Total Football approach where each player can be deployed in at least two different positions. An interesting concept, certainly providing versatility but it may take a while to settle. I don't want to sound pessimistic but we might be in for a few more dodgy results from the Arsenal while this new concept side finds it feet. At least with the Beast in tow we shouldn't get bullied in the middle of the park any more.

Quick word on Gallas: outstanding signing of an outstanding player. He's just solved our defensive crisis. Big Phil and Djourou will benefit no end from his tactial nous and experience, plus Toure can now operate without his babysitter tag, in full knowledge that his centreback partner is more than capable of marshalling the backline on his own. Great stuff. :applause:

You know, Baptista was a CMF at Sevilla. He then had to play upfront due to injuries to D. Silva and other forwards at the club, and then he became an overnight revalation.

I like your formation, thought i'd sub Van Percy for Pleb.

@ Joystick I also like your formation it seems to be logical (AW)

I think Baptista will fit in fine w/ Brazilian trio(silva, bap, and den)and for Gallas need I say more;)

You guys have got a great player in gallas, very disappointed to see him leave :(, but at the same time, you've got another ashley cole, gallas is very selfish and doesnt care about his club.

But does ashley cole care about his club? This is a player who is prepared to go behind his clubs back to speak another while under contract.
