Arsenal Thread

the way they celebrate shows that theyre a strong unit! Dortmund is a team that work very hard... they run the most kilometer per game in europe if not in the whole football world. The ground they cover each match is astonishing. they know winning this game away from home was key to their progression cause winning at dortmund is very difficult task.

Running the most or passing the most or holding the ball the most is nice, but in football I think scoring the most is why we`re top of the group just saying . Flamini just proves how vital he is

Klopp was celebrating like that because he probably considered this the toughest match in the group.

What bugs me is that it was avoidable. Their first goal was a gift, as Ramsey, even in his best form, still has the annoying habit of dwelling on the ball for too long on our defensive half. Opposition like Dortmund will press high up the pitch, it could have been foreseen.

And then after we equalised we were by far the best team on the pitch in the 2nd half and were unlucky not to score - first Cazorla hit the post and then the ref whistled for a non-existent foul by Mertesacker in the build up to what was going to be yet another Ramsey goal.

But at the end of the day, we were leading the group and we didn't need to be that exposed. Too many bodies were committed forward when they hit us on a break, which we should have never allowed. We had the upper hand with the draw - even if at home - so if anyone should be desperately attacking, it should have been Dortmund.

Wenger admitted this after the match. The team was naive to allow that counter.

Now I'm expecting us to thump Marseille at home and then get something from the away matches.

Hell, if the players don't let their head down with this result and carry on with that excellent form, I can see us beating Dortmund away.

Dortmund fans remodeled the Emirates....:COAT:

Well that's disappointing. But you know, some "fans" are more like animals.
After looking at this, I think the Arsenal Away boys will have some ideas of their own in 2 weeks time.

I think Dortmund were so happy because they will be favourites now to finish top of the group, they play us and Napoli both at home and then Marseille away.

I guess the game against Napoli will be huge and decide out of the two of us who will join Dortmund. So Napoli will have the advantage of course being at home.

We have gone from being in a great position to being in a pretty shitty one.

Although of course Dortmund can drop points to both us and Napoli, but they will be favourites for sure in all 3 games they have left to play.

This group is very tight!!

Let's not lose belief yet. Let's hope the team can mantain momentum. That was a defeat we shouldn't have allowed, when a draw suited us fine. We were the better team in that 2nd half and lost because of recklessness going forward, naivity and because Dortmund is a sneaky, dangerous team, lethal on the counter. I hope some lessons are learned for the next encounter.

I still think we could beat them at their ground, payback time and all that!

But now it's that time of the season when we will see what this squad really is made of. After the Palace game, look at our sequence in the following 2 weeks:

Chelsea at home (Capital One)
Liverpool at home (Prem)
Dortmund away (CL)
Manchester United away (Prem)

3pts is all that matters today.
Cazorla looks off the pace.
The whole team gave the ball away.
We were for the taking and score 2 goals :) its one of those things we keep results our way.

It will be interesting to see who plays on Tuesday, another defeat after Dortmund and the not so convincing display against Palace could rock confidence again...then we play Liverpool with two of the most in form strikers in the league.

I guess he will play a relatively young team because of the game against Liverpool coming up and then Dortmund away. He has to really, the Capital one cup is not important at the moment, but losing and to Chelsea could cause a psychological blow no matter who is playing for us.

It's tricky, but it's nice to have these problems being at the top of the league.....I just hope we can stay up there and get momentum going again.

What do you guys think about Arteta's red card.
I'm not sure this deserved a red card.

Farcical decision. Shoulder to shoulder and he goes down. To far out for me to be a red. To be honest, I can't even see how it would even warrant a yellow. Game has gone ridiculous with some of the decisions given.

That red shouldn't have been given. I'm not even sure Arteta wanted to commit that foul in the first place. If you look at close ups on the replay he was genuinely trying to challenge for the ball.
I think Arsenal might have a case for an appeal there, but if the FA don't accept it the ban would be extended.

Yes it was silly, they both seemed to bump into each other and fall over and it was miles away, we had another player running over that would have caught him and therefore Arteta wasn't the last player and it wasn't a clear goal scoring opportunity either.

I don't know what channel I watched? but it had Michael Owen doing the commentating and he was saying it was a definite red etc.....I think he should just retire and enjoy his life, he is too annoying as a commentator and dull.

HAving Flamini and Arteta out for the next few games will be bad as well :((

Yes there is no need to foul him because chamak is Fucking useless. One on one against shez and he would Fuck it up 9/10

Looking forward to the match tonight, interested to see the teams that go out and play.

Although I am not too fussed if we win (Rather concentrate on the league) but of course it would be great to win :DD

Would like to see Bendtner play a whole game.

I totally expected Arsenal to lose with both teams using their reserves - it's no news that billionaire squad would be stronger overall than ours. From Fabianski to Bendtner, and from Schwarzer to Eto'o, you get the idea.

That gulf of quality doesn't excuse the terrible performance, mind you. What is really alarming is that we barely made Schwarzer break a sweat the whole game. Arsenal insists over and over and over again with that never ending possession and nobody taking responsibility - except for Ramsey who made one or two good efforts.

But the team philosophy - although beautiful to watch - becomes way too predictable for strong teams. Too much passing, not enough objectivity. There was an occasion when Bendtner received the ball unmarked with his back facing the goal and he passed the ball back instead of trying a turn and having a go himself! To me, when a natural Centre Forward does this, it speaks volumes! It's unacceptable, it's the death of a centre forward.

I could put the blame on Bendtner, would be much easier, but we know that the underlying problem is the philosophy, the exaggeration of possession, the obsession with tap ins, if you will.

When intricate interplay pays off and we see a masterclass of a goal like Wilshere's against Norwich in that 4-1 win, we all stand up and applaud, but at the same time I am all the time aware that only this won't be enough to beat the top dogs.

I don't want to be all negative here, because this match was played with many reserve players and we should be capable of much much better. But for me, there were warning signs all over it, the way the team behaved - not the quality of the players on the pitch.

I'm delighted with the campaign so far, but I'm managing expectations until we face Mourinho's Chelsea again, and a couple of the other big dogs - the Manchester clubs especially. If we at least avoid losing at home to them, I'd say it would be an improvement from previous seasons. What we can't let happen is to get beaten home and away by those guys and adding 6 points to them in the process, what we've done so frequently against United for instance.

If we are to stand a chance of winning the league, the direct confrontation will have to be more balanced than previous years and Wenger will have to play more intelligently, not exposing our defence too much, and we'll need our players not to gift any more stupid goals.

Let's see. We will have a series of games coming up, that will give us a pretty good idea of how we'll handle the pressure (although for me Chelsea will be the most important one).
