Arsenal Thread

Here's the issue though. Is it the hierarchy at Arsenal or Wenger himself who came up with the 1 year contract for players over 30(or whatever the policy is)? That's the special episode 10 million dollar question. I personally feel it's not Wenger and the Arsenal board who's filtering down this bull****. The fact that some players don't get a run in are definitely his fault, but the transfers and such, I'm not so sure.

If it is the hierarchy then why is wenger taking all the blame for it and not move on?

That is still for me one of the worst decisions Wenger made when he gave the captaincy to Gallas instead of Gilberto.

I so agree, but I happen to think this season is probably worse - letting the squad thin to bare minimum knowing how injury prone the players are.

Was another massive mistake by Wenger, the likes of Campbell, Ljungberg, Pires, Gilberto Silva still had enough left in the tank and more importantly, they were winners, their days of leading from the front were over but they would have helped transition the club far better than the start from scratch method Wenger went with.

Couldn't agree with you more.

For one, he is the face of our club and the easiest to pin it on, and as far as the second part I don't have an answer for that. I mean why would a coach want to offer 1 year contracts to those caliber of players. It's just hard for me to pin it all on him, when there has to be more to it.

I think Eto'o would be an excellent signing for you. Maybe not playing the 90 in every match, but as an option. Cheap now too, since Anzhi's sugar daddy had a meltdown.

I read on the British media that Chelsea is after Eto'o, since they are light on strikers - they only have Torres, Lukaku and Ba

I don't know how much more Eto'o has got left in his tank, already at 32. Plus, he is right now the best paid player on the planet! I'm sure he wouldn't be content with Arsenal's "meagre" pay of below 100k a week.

I'd rather have another younger player to be honest.

So Arsene is going to skip on Luiz Gustavo as well and let Wolfsburg take him? If this happens I will be pissed. I haven't paid too much attention to him, but the starting DMF for the Confederation Cup and CL winnners can't be that bad can he? If Wenger isn't willing to pay a premiere price for him (20 million euros for a 26 year old can be called a bargain actually in today's market), then who?

Eto'o would demand a ridiculous wage and he's no longer the play he once was. Slightly ironic, both United and Arsenal set out the summer with intentions to probably bring in some big name(s) and both currently sit a few days before the season without a single noteworthy signing.

At least your squad won the Premiership. Whereas Wenger acts most of the time as if his team couldn't possibly be improved.
Brazilian media says now that Barcelona are now in the race for Luiz Gustavo. Great!

By the time Wenger places a bid of £16m and 99 pence, Gustavo will be long gone somewhere else.

Yeah, I sound bitter now because that's exactly how I feel. Oh and I feel pissed off as well. 3 days now til the Premiership starts. It's slowly sinking in... Wenger REALLY is gonna start the campaign with this squad. God help us all!

Can you imagine a team that plays in the bottom of the middle half of the table looks more inviting then Arsenal  I give up...why does Suarez wants Arsenal besides no one wanting him ,but Liverpool? I thing Suarez was told he can bite and abuse every reserve player he wants.

Truth is we both put our eggs in the wrong baskets (Fabregas and Suarez) which seem to have been long drawn out situations with both of us not getting our man, seems both clubs didn't really know were to go after.

Arsenal kind of knew, but didnt have the guts to complete the deals. There was Higuain, the Suarez thing which is a comedy of errors and now Luiz Gustavo.

Now apparently we face an injury crisis with Vermaelen, Arteta, Sagna, Walcott, Ramsey, Monreal all either sidelined or a doubt for the Villa match.
I hope some of these guys are feigning injury to force Wenger to buy...

We still have time to sack the manager and get someone in the job who will make the necessary signings. Suddenly this option doesn't sound so absurd in my head.

I think Wenger has finally gone senile. It pisses me right off when our deluded boss insists in comparing Arsenal to Chelsea and United.

"At us, Chelsea, Manchester United, it is difficult to find the quality players to strengthen the team and the squad who are available at the moment but there are a shortage of top, top, top players who are available."
- Arsene Wenger

The only difference is that the aforementioned teams already have quite a strong team and didn't release 17 players from their senior squad. United may not have signed anyone, but they are keeping a squad who won the Premiership with ease.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are starting a season in shambles. A season when we should be ahead of everybody else who changed managers, etc. This whole summer has been a comedy of errors. They don't learn the lesson of closing the deals ASAP before the selling club changes the price tags or some other club snap up our targets before us.
Just pay once in a lifetime some £2m over the odds for the players who will truly make us capable of challenging! FFS!

Instead, we are carrying an injury hit squad with only 11 fit senior players to battle on 2 fronts right from the beginning: the Premiership and the CL qualification.

The CL playoff against Fenerbahce isn't going to be easy. We could have some new signings by now, already integrated to the squad right now to give us better chances of advancing to the CL group stages. But no, instead we run the risk of having a few more injuries here and there and having to use squad fiddler from the reserves and youth academy to complete our very own firs XI for a crucial CL playoff match!

This team narrowly finished 4th, the prize of CL football being considered of great importance. Yet they disrespect this notion - and even gamble with our future and financial well being by putting this qualification at great risk.
After such a painstaking campaign to finish 4th it looks like they're trying hard to chuck it all away down the garbage bin?

It's like they don't give a fuck at all? Am I overreacting here? What is this world coming to??

Imo rentboy definitely has a point. I was always a fan of Wenger, but i'm baffled by his inactivity this window. I 'm obviously biased, but i think Spurs are catching up with Arsenal now. Last season Spurs already had a first eleven as good as Arsenal's. I think Spurs have at least as much squad depth now.

If they hold onto Bale and pull of Lamela, Spurs current team is looking :...

Oh God help us all! Whi the hell is this ref?? Antony Taylor?? He's out there to fuck us, it's uncanny!!

That Koscielny tackle was the cleanest possible and he gave a penalty and 2 soft yellow cards. That sending off was ludicrous!
