Arsenal Thread

Can Emunike play in this match for Fenerbahce? If he can then Arsenal might struggle to contain him.

Emenike, yeah

Did someone mention Emenike?

Are you serious more like? Never heard of the majority of them. There's probably 10 minutes of 1st team football between them (apart from the obvious ones).

Many of these guys were used in our first team at one point or another:
Gervinho, Arshavin, Santos, Djourou, Coquelin, Squilaci, Miquel (our 4th and last available CB, with Vermaelen injured, mind you), Mannonne (was used for about 5 matches last season when Sczc and Fab were injured).

The point is that we're 1 or 2 injuries away from having to use reserve squad players right now, depending on the position.

Now Chamakh just joined that list, as he leaves to Crystal Palace.

Don't get me wrong, most of that list is an efficient work of clearing out the dead wood. But where the f**k are the new guys? We're one week away from season kick off.

And that club which made noises about spending is now running a profit on transfers. Again.

Any comments on Luiz Guaravo's calibre and playing style?

I haven't ever watched or paid attention to him. I know he's supposed to be a holding mid? He does seem a bit skinny/weak for a player cut out to be a physical box-to-box. However, that's just a basic intuition I have soley based on his physical appearance.

And why is Bayern letting him go?

Also, maybe this will spur the club to purchase his compatriot Julio Cesar as well.

Gustavo would be a very good signing, Bayern are getting rid because they have an embarrassment of riches.

Gustavo is similar to Gilberto Silva.

He played in the bundesliga which from a physical point of view can be compared to the bpl, he is a good dmf, solid midfield player

I watched Luiz Gustavo a few times playing with Bayern (when Schweiny was injured) and really liked him. And then finally I watched him playing for the Brazilian NT at the Confederations Cup and I gotta say he won his place with Big Phil. In the final against Spain the guy was impressive!

Would be an excellent signing if true. I'm hoping for it.

I brought this rumour in here saturday morning . Then ,Wenger answered a reporter/journo after the friendly w/ MC. 'as you say' and 'nothing is concrete yet'
Wenger`s translation :

As you say.= f`n hell! can`t anyone keep a secret ,shit agents.

nothing is concrete as of yet. = 2 parties (clubs) agreed on price ...personal term haven`t started

Now, Clubs agreeing means nothing in today dealings. A player requires pay package and starting choice (WC year)

Someone mention Silva.... you have to really know your football to say Gilberto Silva . He played in such away I never knew he even existed on the pitch. Until he was sort of leaving ..his present actually made Arsenal seem vulnerable .I couldn`t understand why we couldn`t win the ball back even though I was confuse with another player called Gilbert a shade 2 darker. Thinking to myself are we changing names here? Silva was NOT an important player for me. He lacked, all what football should be. Then, he left and we were never the team we were again. So, to compare Luiz to Gilberto .Is giving me the chance to correct and repent from my past and say Gilerto Silva is everything a footballer should be. So, plz let me witness something I lacked to see 'spine'.

dude, Gilberto Silva was a fucking lionheart, the man was like a machine! We all remember Vieira surging forward and combining with Bergkamp and even scoring goals, but all that was only possible because of Gilberto keeping things tidy at the back. His coverage was excellent. Something we really miss nowadays, no player at Arsenal right now can do that job like he did.

Also Wenger said that Gilberto aways kept it simple and he almost never made mistakes. To my recollection, yeah, the guy was that solid.

Luis Gustavo is similar in that respect. From what I saw, he was very discrete and extremely dilligent and disciplined. That's exactly what we need.

Sounds like a good deal, and Bayern will end up selling him anyway, he strikes me as a player who's too good to be on the bench, and at Bayern he will find it very difficult to become a first team regular.

I say sign him up ASAP Arsene!

That is still for me one of the worst decisions Wenger made when he gave the captaincy to Gallas instead of Gilberto.

Was about to mention this, one of his worst decisions that I can remember.

That was like a kick in my bollocks when Wenger did that. And Gallas proved what a bad decision it was later.

Ok, talks of Luis Gustavo are getting more and more serious. Today apparently the player himself said he'd like to join Arsenal.
What else are we waiting for, Arsene?

We gotta get our freaking business done ASAP, before Tottenham sells bale and uses the money to buy all the Luises we are targeting.

Gilberto Silva - the invisible wall.

Was so sad that he didn't get the captaincy the year it was given to Gallas, and then Silva was moved on. A superb professional.

Gilberto has be to one of my favorites from the past 10 years. Went something like 2 years without a yellow card. That's insane for the position he played. This conversation makes me wonder why Wenger never kept the aging stars around like Sir Alex did at Man U. This younger crop could have learned some winning ways from the likes of Bergkamp, Pires, Ljungberg, Campbell, Lauren, etc, etc. BS one year contract's for players like these. Wenger's head should be examined.

More like wengers position should be examined. Those were the days i was begging for wenger to get the sack. 5+ years on and still we are shit.

Was another massive mistake by Wenger, the likes of Campbell, Ljungberg, Pires, Gilberto Silva still had enough left in the tank and more importantly, they were winners, their days of leading from the front were over but they would have helped transition the club far better than the start from scratch method Wenger went with.

Here's the issue though. Is it the hierarchy at Arsenal or Wenger himself who came up with the 1 year contract for players over 30(or whatever the policy is)? That's the special episode 10 million dollar question. I personally feel it's not Wenger and the Arsenal board who's filtering down this bull****. The fact that some players don't get a run in are definitely his fault, but the transfers and such, I'm not so sure.
