Arsenal Thread

As a United fan - neither do I. I've been harping on in the United thread all season about f*cking terrible Fergie has been tactically all season - some formations and lineups have made no sense and then we've predictably been terrible on the pitch.

Today we have a great chance to knock Chelsea out of the top 4 and what does he do? Field our second string team despite us not having played in a week.

The only reasoning I can think of is that Mourinho is coming back and Fergie's just doing him a favor.

All that said, Chelsea are going to destroy Spurs on Wednesday and you and them will finish in the top 4, with Spurs in 5th. So it doesn't matter.
I would really, really love it, that Chelsea lose out in CL. Will Mouthy go to Chelsea then?

I think Chelsea guaranteed themselves a CL spot tonight, I have no idea why SAF decided to play such a weak team but whatever I think Spurs are the ones it will effect most.

Spurs lost enough point against clubs like Fulham and Wigan.
At the moment they haven't good form and this is the moment when it matters.

Apart from that: SPurs had to play Man Utd when that club still had all to loose or to win while both Chelsea and Arsenal were lucky with the timing of the second match...but that is a football calender, things like this can happen.

I enjoy this bloke bully you see him almost every home n away game! I love what he said about Theo not wanting to tackle n he owns 1 kit . :LMAO:

The guy calls him Sanga, doesn't he? hah
He's harsh on Sagna saying all goals we concede are down to him, but I agree Sagna's seen his best years and Jenkinson is the way forward.

The new deal with Puma sounds good, with an extra 30mil a year from 2014 (Maybe some released before)

Added to the Emirates sponser deal as well, things financially seem to be getting better for us.

Puma just tweeted that they'll have a big announcement tonight.

I'm looking forward to see the investments the club will be able to make, but also thinking about the kit design. I could live with something like this:

EDIT: Nevermind, I want it to look like this:

Yes, it will be like a new signing. :)
This summer will be very interesting though.

What do you guys think about tonight's result? It keeps the fight alive. A Chelsea win would have made it a bit more difficult for Spurs.

We need to show more desire to win and get there.

In terms of our ambitions to overtake Chelsea and finish 3rd to avoid the CL playoffs, it was good. I can see Chelsea dropping points, especially to Everton.

But in terms of finishing above Sp*rs, it leaves even less margin for fuck ups.
If they had lost, we would have a 2 point cushion with a much better goal difference. That would allow us some margin - a win and a draw would have sufficed for us.

But now we absolutely need the 2 wins out of 2 if we don't want to depend on other results. I hope the team realises they're walking on thin ice. Absolutely no room for mistakes.

Yeah I think tonight was big for you, results have gone nicely for you since Sunday with Chelsea beating us and Wigan losing.

Just a thought, I dont post here much but I definitely read this thread along with the rest of the other club threads. But what do you guys think about Vermaelen playing a similar role for us that David Luiz plays for Chelsea? He loves to push forward when possible and maybe lacks some passing ability, but I believe he would love to play that role. Maybe the solution we're looking for.

Still the King.

Spurs have Stoke away next, hopefully Stoke can at least get a draw and we beat Wigan. My heart couldn't take it going into the last day, especially with us away at Newcastle, which I think will be very hard (also the Wigan game will be, but I'm hoping home advantage will get us over the line)

IMO yesterday's draw was not enough for Spurs...it's over unless Arsenal makes mistakes...
If i try to be objective i think 3 Chelsea 4 Arsenal 5 Spurs is justified.

Chelsea played by far the best football of the 3 teams (but like yesterday often for 60 or 70 minutes and afterwards they often lost points). It's close between Arsenal and Spurs. I know i'm biased but IMO Spurs played the more attractive football, but Arsenal have the better squad...Spurs bench is not good enough to compete with Arsenal.

I wouldn't even put 10pounds on Arsenal not to make any mistakes though and drop points in the next two games. We are very capable of losing points.

But I hope we struggle through (I hope we play really well and win both games comfortably, but I doubt it).

It's far from over.

As I said a draw for Spurs and a Win for us at the weekend would be sweet!

It is on a knife edge!

Oh I'd just seen this Henry goal. Fantastic!

Yeah, I agree about Vermaelen, that is spot on. He could be improvised as our DMF. I even suggested this here a while ago. This is something Wenger could and should be experimenting with.

I'm not even sure he'd lack passing abilities there. Out of the 3 CBs we have he has the best passing IMO. And let's face it, the CB pairing of Koscielny and Mertesacker is going to make it very difficult for him to get his place back there.

I think he could be fantastic in the DMF role, because he's aggressive, loves to charge up the field, good at anticipating and intercepting, and much more physical than Arteta, who could play a bit more advanced in the Ramsey role.
In fact, with the injuries we've had, this is something Wenger should have tried a long time ago!

With SAF having left do you lot expect Wenger to renew or could this next season also be his last stand?

If he says the best is yet to come (financially) for Arsenal, then I'd expect him to renew. The club will have the renewed Emirates shirt sponsorship and the Puma deal. If he's willing to spend more money from now on, who knows.

Right now I'm more concerned about our next 2 matches and what they could represent for the future. All this talk of spending more money and signing Jovetic and other quality players depends on a CL spot.

I'm not too confident on us beating Wigan and Newcastle... something tells me it's not gonna be straightforward as most would think. Both teams will be fighting for their lives, maybe more than Arsenal! Because a relegation hits the finances of a club even more than non CL status.

If we carry on with that casual attitude we had against Fulham and QPR, we're bound to have problems.
The team goes 1-0 up and thinks it's enough, and from then on completely abdicates from even shooting at goal.

These games are NOT gonna be easy, as Bobby said it's far from over. And I have a gut feeling it will take a Tottenham draw for us to finish 4th. I hope I'm wrong though and we can get all 6 points somehow.

Im more confident away from home vs Newcastle .I feel having a strong Giroud fighting gk kicks then Podi having his legs getting a proper stabbing. Giroud is a miss in these last 2 games. I hope Wigan gets batter in final 5 nil to break their spirits.

Giroud is fit and rested. He got a 3 match ban for that straight red against Fulham, that's all. I hope he eats that Newcastle defence alive!! We need the points.

This is a nice article. I was at that game, great memories :DD I just turned 13 and it was one of the best moments for me going to games.

A few years ago a guy I was working with was a Sheffield Wednesday supporter and we spoke about it, I know I had the programme for that match and he wanted to buy it off of me, he also said it is worth quite a bit of money as they were rare. I searched high and low and couldn't find it anywhere, so disappointed. Still haven't found it to this day. But it was a great time.

Well look at what Wigan did! If there was anyone out there thinking Arsenal will have it easy on Tuesday, there's your answer.

They will be a tough nut to crack and Arsenal better be careful and take it very serious. Some of our players performances have been quite pedestrian lately. If Wenger doesn't kick some asses and get these guys playing with purpose, urgency, concentration and respect for Wigan, we could be in for a disappointment.
