Arsenal Thread

I'm not sure if gerd is getting his fair share of dairy. He always seem to think Belgiums are better ,when he compare to other players. The world can't argue , because we know F' all bout that league and the fact he thought RVP was not good enough for Arsenal and is a hype player by the gooners.

I think theirs a fine line btw predictions and facts, Wimpy or McDonaldo....

Wimpy used to be better in the late 80's early 90's but McDonalds is better now. Wimpy has gone down hill in the UK......it makes me sad.

You have good arguments in that post my cheesy friend.

And by the way Quick is better than Wimpy or Mc Donalds, they have a mean cheeseburger...

PS: Quick is ...Belgian...
PPS: Quick used to sponsor Beerschot and a couple of years ago Beerschot had a new player, Dutch forward Sherjil Mc Donalds...Quick made huge billboards with the following slogan:

"Quick welcomes Mc Donalds and wishes him good luck"

Finally a great signing by Arsenal, you haven't had a decent left-back ever since Ashley Cole left and now you have a player who in my view is capable of filling his boots.
Nacho Monreal is one of the best left backs in Spain and the fact that he has 10 caps with the Spain NT speaks itself.

But still Sagna and Mertesacker are the weak links of the Arsenal defense and unless they're replaced, there will be no stability in defense.

And I don't know how long Gibbs will be out of action but just the idea of having Santos defend against Robben will give Arsenal fans a nightmare.

I have to admit this was a surprise buy. Wenger doesn`t buy French anymore :P Its Spanish n German! I still think we`re short overall coverage and come what may!

Gerd and his top 10 lists :D

Top 10 strikers, Top 20 Keepers, Top 25 Left-Footed Right Wing Backs :D

(No offense Gerd, I love reading your posts. Just making a little fun :) )

Just came here after watching the MOTD highlights. Just a couple of notes. I know the highlights don't represent the full 90 minute performance, but here it goes

Wilshere really had some defense-splitting passes. I think he has the vision to be a great midfielder. And definitely the passion to be a great footballer. He might not be the next Pirlo, but he has loads of talent.

I think Walcott has stepped up mentally. I was really reluctant and pessimistic about him because of the transfer saga, but I feel now he is ready to step up and be a leader on the field. He is not escaping from responsibility and taking his chances. That shows confidence and leadership that the team was lacking with the departure of RVP. I believe this is also the reason why he wants to play up front rather than on the wing, so that he can have more influence.

Giroud seems to be versatile player up front. I'm liking his style. I don't think he will ever be a goal-scoring machine, but to me he seems like the player that can bring lots more to the table than just goals. His aerial presence adds dimension to the attacking game. I've been watching the highlights on and off throughout the season and he always seems to be bringing down long passes, heading them on, etc. I think he also has a significant amount of assists. I think Podolski, Walcott, and him make as balanced and threatening as any trio of attackers in the EPL. Of course, a lot depends on their form, which says a lot as well.

I think Szczesny is a good goalie from what I've seen. But last game he seemed 'abysmal'. I think the amount of debate over him is a good sign of his capabilities. Good keeper, good potential, but lots to develop. I would prefer a more experienced and talented goalie and having Szczesny wait behind him. There were talks a couple of years ago about us signing Buffon when he was going off the radar due to his injuries. I wish it had happened.

About the defense. I think Rentboy said it perfect when he said "You gotta give it to them, they sure know how to f' it up." Vermaaleen's position was a clear penalty, as the ball touched both of his arms around 3 times. Mertesacker was making really accurate passes to the opposite attackers feet. Ramsey made an incredible backheel pass in the 1st goal :D It was quite impressive. He was also involved in the Henderson goal, which made me think if he was playing as a DMF for the game?

Finally, the Henderson goal reminded me of a goal my hometeam conceded this season. One of the slowest and clumsiest defenders in our league went on to dribble the ball from the midfield line and cross 4 or 5 of our defenders to finally score against our goalkeeper in a Bizarre Messi-esque fashion. Also, the Henderson goal reminded me of one of Messi's goals against us and Almunia in the UCL couple of seasons back when we had the yellow jerseys.

Thank you Wenger! A Left Back! Mission accomplished.

I would love to see a no nonsense DM in this team, that would go a long way to sorting our defensive shakiness. Yes AK Rabona, Aaron Ramsey played as a DM against West Ham and Liverpool. Far from ideal.

But as for our back four, Santos is a calamity, so we needed to sort this. Nacho Monreal is cup tied though, isn't he? If he was with Malaga, then it means we can't use him on the CL, so we will probably still have Santos against Robben and Ribbery

If Gibbs isn't ready by then, I would use Vermaelen on the LB and Merte + Kos in the centre. If Vermaelen isn't fit, I'd use Kos as our left back and play Squilaci in the centre. I'm serious.

3 things

*Stokes are very well organized at the back!
*Begovic is the real deal :COAT:
* Foy is a dangerous ref ! lenient/tolerant whatever have you . Owen assaulted Arteta and Arteta retaliate. Both should of seen some sort of card .Too many fouls didn`t get pulled back imo.

3pts was well deserve ;)

We looked good today again, shame we couldn't get a vew more goals but Stoke's defense was very well organised. Begovic was fantastic too, denied us atleast two goals with some fantastic keeping.

By the way, if QPR goes down, I hope we can pick up Samba for a bargain.

...and Julio Cesar perhaps! The man is keeping the clean sheets for QPR, but they just can't score.

Today was really good to see Arsenal attacking with purpose, trying hard enough and getting the reward, even if in the form of a lucky deflection.
But today Arsenal attacked with urgency, crossing lots of balls to Giroud and attempting shots whenever the opportunity presented itself. Walcott and Chamberlain were trying most of the shots.

We should really have been ahead much earlier when Begovic made a fantastic save from AOC. And then Giroud had an absolute free header and he chose to cushion it into the path of someone (there was no one there). Shit decision, I know he has very little time to make a decision, but the striker's instinct should always be to shoot at goal first and foremost.

Really liked what I saw from Nacho. Great to see a left back with discipline, and he's good on the ball too. No more Santos for us in the Premier League, I think.

I love it when Stoke lose too. Was it true that Arsenal fans were chanting "one-nil to the football team"??

Shawcross is an absolute cunt. There was a nasty challenge by him on Koscielny and there was some unnecessary pushing over Arteta when they were complaining with the linesman. Which, by the way, I didn't see the point of!! What the hell was that tool of a linesman thinking? He signalled for something illegal with the goal, but replay shows no contact between players in the box, no one was offside, and the ball went in deflected off a Stoke defender anyway. What in God's name was that idiot thinking there?
I'm just glad Chris Foy didn't want to know about that nonsense.

3 great and legit points. Now 4 points behind Chelsea and just 1 behind Spurs after they lose Sunday :D
Up the Arse!

And Owen should have been sent off. Was a clear attempt to punch Arteta. He didn't hit him hard but the intention was there. I think the referee missed it but he did give him a yellow but because of the pushing after the incident, so he Owen can't be suspended. Stupid rule.

And Julio Cesar is still a fantastic goalkeeper, but I really want Szczesny to keep growing and live up to his potential.

The Owen 'punch' thing was nothing, just handbags, Arteta going and shoving him then Wilshere pushing Owen etc all should just be left alone. Nothing really happened....Wilshere's push was more agressive than Owen's 'Punch' so if Owen gets punished I would expect Wilshere to as well.

Anyway good result against Stoke, we have to get the points on the board against Sunderland and Villa this month as we have Spurs (A) and Everton (H) in March one after the other!! Those are two massive games......and then you have the two legs against Bayern in the next few weeks.

We really need this team to step up a gear now and be consistent if we want to get to that 4th spot.

Everton at home is a must win match and a derby win is always awesome.

Away at Spurs (depending how this month goes) it will be very hard to get all 3 points, so the minimum we need is 4 points from both games (That's if we beat Sunderland and Villa)......but that is easier said than done. Who knows we might need all 6points by then if Spurs carry on winning (and Everton).

It is exciting anyway, I just hope we prevail and get our spot in the top 4 :DD

I suppose he is when he isn't in your team, but we were really in the need of a player like him.

Sometimes you need a bit of luck here and there ;)) I'm just happy for the 3 points and apparently we deserved them, so that is good.

Well, we had a lot of chances. Looking at some match statistics:
65% possession
12 shots on target while Stoke had 5.
11 corners compared to Stoke who only had one.

All these corners are killing us by far, we went from RVP swings to Jack n Theo . Cazorla and Arteta plz!!!! I`m glad Podi is listening to me I told him on twitter to take all spot kicks!

I love Jack he`s the future Captain for sure! can`t believe our nastiest player is the youngest...What will become of him in 5yrs , Kean+Veira = Jack
