Arsenal Thread

Yes Bobby, but perhaps the new defender might be a first choice one...

PS: happy new year.

That's true, more proper competition for places would be a good thing. But I think most defenders would be wary as they have to compete with Merts, Kosc and Verm (Not saying they are amazing, but they are pretty good). But if a better defender is willing to come that would be great.

Happy New Year! :))

I would like him to stay, but I guess after his recent performances then he will be getting a bit more money than we were willing to offer.

He has his chance centrally now and that is what he said meant more to him than the money. So if that is true he should sign.

But it would be a turn up for the books as I think most people would have expected him to go.

We will see in the next few weeks.

I hope Walcott stays as well. His career will be destroyed at Man City or Chelsea, he'll just end up rotting on sub bench.

Man City dont play with width and Chelsea already have Mata, Moses, Marin, Hazard etc etc..

has a move abroad been suggested?

Juve's also been mentioned among candidates as far as I know. but I think its possibility is very very small as Juve's formation & tactics, you know, is a bit different and obviously not very suitable for him.

I hope you meant feeling and not failing lol .
Theo is taking advantage of the current situation . Theo knows he is vital for morale the fact we keep selling players for a profit regardless if the club wanted to or not. Theo went so long in this strange negotiating for a better deal . I don't fault him for it arsenal are shrewd in the sense. The club needs Theo not for football but stability.

I mainly want to keep him because of our other young British players, I think it gives the team a good basis to carry on and improve.

But Bebo is right if we sell Walcott, it is more about the status of the club and getting rid of our better players.

This next month could see us in bad times, If we get knocked out of the FA cup by Swansea and then don't get enough points on the board against Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool. Then the mood will certainly go down and we could find ourselves adrift and quite a way from 4th place.

Good thing about the next 3 prem games are that two are at home (although that doesn't mean much these days).

This is a HUGE month for us, FA Cup, 3 very hard league games, keeping Walcott and buying in some other quality players. It could easily be one of those months where I feel like topping myself at the end ;)) I just hope our players give 100%

At least 2 or 3 additions should be made. Come on Wenger! I have faith.

Lots of rumors about us making a bid for Villa.

I heard talk of a bid for Villa around £15m. For a 31 year old with such an injury record is a lot, but I think Barcelona won't be keen on selling, as they bought him for 40m euros.

Wenger recently made an embarrassing speech saying fans want to see Lionel Messi. Shocking! No, we don't expect Messi. But when we sell Fabregas, Nasri, Song and Van Persie we expect some players of a similar quality.

Wenger is making dissonant noises: at first he says he wants to strengthen the whole team. Next day he says his priority is making his players stay (Theo). Well, make up your freaking mind. Even if you're bullshitting the press you have to have some consistency.

I doubt Theo will stay. If he held out for this long, it doesn't mean a good thing.
Wenger says it's not about money but I doubt it. Just give him an improved offer!

Now would be a time to go back to 4-4-2, buy Wesley fucking Sneijder from Inter, pay him around £100k (which is what he wants) and offer Theo the same. We wouldn't be busting our budget limit, it would be a stretch to reflect what the market has been paying for top players (way too far from the £200k paid by the Manchester clubs to certain players though).

A midfield of Arteta, Wilshere, Cazorla and Sneijder would be something else! :D

Sneijder is not an overated player...

He is a very one of kind gifted technical player. but hes the kind of playmaker that is outstanding on the technical level, but doesnt bring any creativity, vision or energy to a team IMO... tough he is a very competitive and determined player. I think he could be a monster in the EPL.

Wenger seems to be getting pressure from the top nowadays! He keeps changing his tone, obviously excuses are running thin.

The last thing your team needs is Sneijder, Cazorla's playing in that role and probably the better play at the minute. You need a Song replacement IMO as well as another Striker.

Sneijder is an opportunity buy at the moment. I think he is classy, has a great pass, an excellent right foot. I haven't watched much of him recently, but I remember he played very well against Brazil in the World Cup, plus he is an experienced player who conquered big things (Champions League with Inter) and reached the World Cup final. Arsenal needs players with this kind of experience.

But you are right. As mouth watering as it could be having Sneijder in our midfield, it would still leave us very light there.
We need a physical midfielder to do the DMF work - not that Arteta isn't good at it, but he cannot impose himself too much physically.

And the striker because we didn't properly replace Van Persie. Giroud and Podolski were supposed to be additions (Wenger said so back in June, but I don't believe it, as he probably knew RvP was leaving anyway).

But going back to Sneijder, some club will snatch him and I will be very jealous because he has potential to be a great Premier League player.

Sneijder scored a goal against Brazil in the WC, but he was nothing special in that match, nor in the WC (although he scored quite a few goals). If i remember well, the goal against Brazil was a lucky one...
Cazorla is much better than Sneijder. Of course the Wesley Sneijder from the year under Mourinho is a great addition for every team, but he is far from that player. There were rumours that Spurs are after him. I hope that isn't true. Players like Sandro, Dembele are much better than Sneijder.
When Belgium played against Holland Sneijder was totally outplayed by Steven Defour who is normally a second choice player in our national team.

PS: of course this will haunt me. Sneijder will go to an English club and will be great...it happens all the time.

We have put ourselves right up against it now, we have the west ham game added to the January fixtures and now this replay! It is going to be a tough month, good thing is that nearly all the games are at home I think.

We are so fragile defensively, and I am never comfortable with a lead when we have it because I know any team can score past us and we are capable of lapses in concentration too often.

We need to do much better if we want positive results against all of the games in Jan let alone the ones against Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool. If we come out of this month smelling of Roses I will be surprised, but hopefully we do a lot better than the last couple of games.

Looked like Swansea was resting Michu. When they needed to score they put him on and so he did. Crazy!
I know Podolski came from the bench and scored too, but I still think we need a new CF signing.

January will be hectic and quite frankly if we don't sign anyone to boost this team we can struggle.

Listening to Wenger talk about transfers is always frustrating. I'll try to stay away from the news during January and only watch the games...
