Arsenal Thread

If Walcott was better with his finishing we could have won by 3 :PP if my Auntie had bollocks she would be my Uncle etc :DD

I think he just has to use his strongest team for both games, next Udinese game is not until Wednesday. With the injuries we got today aswell and with Song and Gervinho suspended, they will get a rest anyway on Saturday.

We definately need some back up now in defence, injuries looking like they will be commonplace again

defence wasnt that great. udinese broke our defence many times tonight. same old

To have a good defence it doesn't mean that the opposition team doesn't have any chances at all Jonney.

I thought the same old mistakes were letting our leads go? letting teams get last minute goals etc? and not holding onto games? we held onto the lead in this game, maybe not very convincingly but we did and our defence and goalkeeper look quite a bit stronger aswell imo, so to say the same old I think is 1 too early and 2 not true :DD

But you are Mr Negative, so you can carry on :))

Scez looks good again, something we have lacked before is a keeper we can rely on, which he is looking more and more like he can be that keeper for us (hopefully I haven't jinxed him).

We had Van Persie and Wilshere out today and two injuries to our defence.

Unfortunately over the next 3 games we aren't going to be able to put out our strongest team because of injuries and suspension, so will also not be a great gauge on how this team will be. Along with all of the upheaval recently.

But a draw and a win so far and two clean sheets, it is far from Rosey, but could be alot worse :DD

Am I the only person who thinks Gervinho looked good tonight? Lots of attacking runs with and without the ball, always looking to get forward and looked a threat.

Yeah, he looks like a winger imo, rather than a striker. Not necessarily what Arsenal need, but his pace and trickery looked pretty handy.

He looks good, he is not afraid to go at players. But I noticed last night that his final ball was lacking abit. But I have seen him in pre season and in the international against Israel and his final ball was very good, so i'm sure that will get better.

If Walcott keeps up his work rate from Last night and Gervinho and Van Persie up front, I think it will cause defenses lots of problems and be dangerous. Hopefully our midfield can feed them though, otherwise it could all fall flat.

Midfield was shocking in the second half - really disappeared. We need some new blood in the midfield - urgently - and at LB - can't believe Enrique went that cheap to Liverpool

If we're not careful, Gunnersaurus will be the next one being loaned to London Zoo. True Story.

Yeah he has to get at least one more central midfielder before the champs league closes and a quality one at that, also looks like we need a striker aswell and obviously a defender or two (for left back).

Wenger has to buy in the next two weeks, otherwise he is putting his Arsenal career on the line.

Sometimes you just wonder what goes on inside this man's brain...

Well i still believe Chamakh is very good player but Arsenal is to stupid to use him u need to put croses in towards Chamakh he has one of the best headers.

I still hope he has place in Arsenal and he is also trying very had and gives all to the club but yesterday looked like he isnt 100% fit he was very tired at the end of the match!

And he said that he wants to leave a mark in EPL and in Arsenal!

I realy like him as a player but Wenger dosent uses him just like Bendtner!

I want Chamakh to succeed. Something obviously is not right - he looked really good first half of last season, then petered off somewhat. I thought it was the pace of the premiership that might have got to him. He does look like he needs a good arm round the shoulder and talking to (Football Manager style). He has the potential to be a great player, but at the moment, he's obviously fighting something.

One thing i was thinking was that i is Ramadan, and he may be fasting hence it affecting his performance. However, you don't see that affecting Van Persie.

Erm... isn't Ramadan in July/August? I have a friend in London who goes through it every year. If that's the case, Chamakh should have been (literally) hungry for goals after the winter break but it marked his decline instead.

Just read Arseblog and he makes some valid points. We scrapped a good win yesterday, but AW and the board need to get their arses in gear.

This is the thinest and weakest team AW has ever worked with. Reinforcements are needed like never before and dwelling too much in August negotiations might put us in a precarious position.

Come to think of it, we are fielding a Carling Cup-like side against Liverpool and Man United. With Cesc gone and Nasri on his way... No Song and Gervinho through suspension, no Gibbs, Djourou and Wilshere through injury... Apparently Traore is injured too?? That's why Jenkinson played LB yesterday?

So here's our Best XI to face Liverpool and United

SZCZ

Sagna --- Kos --- Squil --- Verm

-----------Frimpster-------------

------Ramsey--------Rosicky------

---Walcott-------------Arshavin---

--------------RVP----------------

Another thing that Arseblog points out is how us fans have to be patient towards the youngsters. Let's get behind the team and support Frimpong, Jenkinson, Oxlade-Chamberlain... they're being thrown into the fire!

Give them space and time to develop, and if the team fails, Wenger is the one to blame.

It's gonna be intriguing this rest of transfer window. Arsenal must do the kind of signings we're not accustomed to see.

Well, I think Arsenal played a good first 30 minutes, but from then on the midfield disappeared. Upfront, Gervinho tried to do things, but I didn't see Chamakh compenetrated with the rest of forwards. It seemed every forward was fighting it's own war.

In the midfield, Udinese dominated almost all of the second half and they had chances to draw. Luckily for Arsenal, they missed a little more gunpowder upfront and Szcz was superb, as well as the udinese goalkeeper, who saved that great Gervinho play that Walcott finished with the placed shot.

I think Arsenal needs a striker, a midfielder and a CB. Capello said years ago that the spline of any team is always: GK - CB - CM - ST. If you have powerful players there, the team will perform. It seems to me that Arsenal has a lot of wingers and good players that cna play in a lot of positions, but other than the goalkeeper (you have it well covered there I think), you need those key players to sustain the team.

Ramadan is a very good point.

Actually now I'm curious if him and van Persie ( I think he converted to Islam because of his wife?!) do fast?! I don't think.. they're religious.. are they?

I mean I'm muslim by birth but I'm not religious so I don't pray or fast. It's even harder to do it when you're a professional athlete! Can you imagine the disadvantage in a competitive match?! Thirsty & Hungry... it's unhealthy to push yourself to limits like that while fasting... wonder if they do it... I personally don't condone it.. I think it's dangerous and professional athletes at least should stay away from fasting... but of course that depends on how religious they are. I'm not so it's easy for me to say.

Drekkard.. what the hell are you doing here after stealing our Captain? Just kidding :)

I really should have kept my head down and kept working. I've been looking at the state of squad, and it doesn't take a scientist to realise we need defensive, midlfield and a Striker - thinking 4-5 players. At the moment, i have no idea what is happening. With news that Nasri will be moving - funny how other clubs can do transfers in 2-3 days - ours are always 'protracted' - it leaves use with the lightest squad i've seen in years.

If you look at absentees...

Banned
22 F Gervinho 24
17 D Alexandre Song 23

Injured
19 M Jack Wilshere 19
7 M Tomas Rosicky 30 (small doubt)
2 M Abou Diaby 25
30 D Armand Traoré 21
20 D Johan Djourou 24
28 D Kieran Gibbs 21

Loan
11 F Carlos Vela 22
48 D Ignasi Miquel 18
36 D Kyle Bartley 20

Sold
4 M Cesc Fàbregas 24
27 M Emmanuel Eboué 28

Tentative Sold
52 F Nicklas Bendtner 23
1 G Manuel Almunia 34
8 M Samir Nasri 24

This leaves us with the following squad!

Squad

21 G Lukasz Fabianski 26
24 G Vito Mannone 23
13 G Wojciech Szczesny 21

25 D Carl Jenkinson 19
6 D Laurent Koscielny 25
3 D Bacary Sagna 28
18 D Sébastien Squillaci 31
5 D Thomas Vermaelen 25

23 M Andrey Arshavin 30
40 M Craig Eastmond 20
35 M Emmanuel Frimpong 19
46 M Henri Lansbury 20
M Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 18
16 M Aaron Ramsey 20

29 F Marouane Chamakh 27
F Ryo Miyaichi 18
10 F Robin van Persie 28
14 F Theo Walcott 22

Therefore, the lineups for the next 3 games look a little like this i suspect..

Vs. Liverpool and United..

-----------------Szczesny ------------
Sagna --Squillaci--Koscielny--Vermaelen
---------Frimpong ----Ramsey------
--------------Lansbury-----------
Walcott---Van Persie-----Arshavin----

Vs. Udinese

-----------------Szczesny ------------
Sagna --Squillaci--Koscielny--Vermaelen
---------Song ----Ramsey------
--------------Arshavin-----------
Walcott---Van Persie-----Gervinho----

Squeeky bum time? Just a bit....

I remember Mourinho having reservations with the fitness of Sulley Muntari during Ramadan, and hence, refusing to play him.

Yah Cana and Kanoute fast I think but they still perform admirably! Most others would fail though and I don't blame them! it's VERY hard! I don't even know how they do it!

Anyway, van Persie is Muslim for sure? Is that a fact? I think he is because of his Moroccan wife or something but I can't certify that. Anyone know for sure? And if he actually is religious enough to fast? Somehow I doubt the latter but Marouane might... I don't know... which would explain some of his recent performances to some degree at least.

Our team seem to have the same problem as last year...period

We were beaten on set pieces...we were beaten on counter-attacks, were just lucky udinese didnt finish their chances otherwize we would have lost this game.

Chamakh is a good CF, its just thats Arsenal aint playing to his strenght since nobody is able to get quality crosses into the box, When is the last time did yall remember Sagna giving a good ball in the box? im seriously shocked how can you be a proffesionnal and not able to give a good cross into the box? im clueless about that guy, to me is useless.

Walcott is another useless player IMO, I gave up on this guy and doesnt deserve to be playing for a top club, IMO he belong to a midtable side. this guys have outstanding atletic abilities but no football intelligence whatsoever, most of the time rushing things, or running like a chicken with no head. YEs he do have hes moment from time to time and thats why after all these years, he never reached his potential. The comment he made about capello says everything about him, blaming people for what hes doing on the pitch and that it affect hes confidence just proves he is not a winner and that he doesnt belong to a top side.

gervinho is okay, but I dont think hes THE guy to lift our team to another level. If wenger keep this side intact with no major signing in the next couple of days, im afraid we can forget about CL next season cause the way I see this team playing...we will drop major points during the season against midtable teams. All on set pieces and defensive errors.

There is something much more wrong with Chamakh than us not getting crosses onto his head. God knows what, but it needs to be sorted out.

I don't think Walcott is useless at all, he, like so many of our players has had a stop start career so far with injuries. I really believe if he can stay injury free for a good while he will do really well.

I don't think we look that bad against set pieces that much, again we have only had 2 matches and one of those two of our defence went off injured. So I think it is really too early to judge.

We are always going to have some susceptability to Counter attacks, because we are attacking so much. But from what I saw our defenders were making good tackles and putting the forward players off of scoring (along with Scez).

I think Gervinho will be really good in time, again it is really too early to say.

The one thing I think we all agree on is we need to buy a few players in the next couple of weeks, I really pray we do.

Yep I agree bobby The only positive thing from the udinese game was wilkenson impresses me.Hes 19 and played solid trough the game making no mistake and was very confident about hes approach on the defensive side. Looking forward to this guy.
