Arsenal Thread

I think our first choice midfield at the moment will do us brilliantly in the years to come, Wilshere and Ramsey look good already and with Song they were building up a good understanding between them. But I do think it is too early for them to play together all of the time. We need the bit of experience in there to show them the way.

Can't wait for Wilshere to be back and see how it goes.

But the next 3 games are going to be very very tough, even if we do get in the new players in time.

Obviously the most important is the next Udinese game, if we can qualify, then we can concentrate on everything else. Hopefully we can get a couple more points off of the Liverpool and Man United games. I would be happy with two draws, but Man United away I think we have to expect to lose that at the moment.

The Liverpool game less so as it is at home and they are still getting used to eachother. But I bet you it starts to click for them against us!

I am getting more and more worried about our attack though, if Van Persie gets injured at the moment we are fucked! (Unless someone gives Chamakh a slap and gets him out of his form). I suppose we can use Gervinho there and Arshavin aswell, or maybe give Theo a go there as thats where he keeps saying he will be best?(Edit: just saw Mathertos post, freaky) but none of them are tried and tested in that role.

It is going to be an interesting and nervewracking couple of weeks.

I'd take 3 draws for these next 3 matches easily.

So far, no word of any movement from Arsenal in the transfer market. I know they do it silently but the deals that did go through leaked to the media before happening (Gervinho and Chamberlain). And at the moment there's nothing...

Our squad is as thin as the ice Wenger is walking on.

Our first choice midefileders could do brilliantly in years to come but without silverware, mark my words, wilshere and co will jump ship just like the rest of our top players.

Our attack is kind of shit indeed when RVP is injured and so is our defence. dont be fooled in the clean sheet last night. seriously we was fucking lucky to have kept a clean sheet. Defend like that throughout the campaign and we wont keep many clean sheets. And had Messi and co be at the end of some of those chances, they would have killed us.

Dont be too excited about that cleansheet in other words because we was very lucky. no ifs or buts about that mate.

I expect maybe a draw against liverpool and for us to beat the crap out of united as its a no pressure game for us. When there is no pressure, we seem to beat the top teams but as soon as itsa knock out cup or a crucial PL fixture around march onwards, we faulty like idiots and play as bad a division one team.

The real test in terms of PL games is not now, its come march onwards. That will be the real test if its ground hog day all over again or if we actually produce the goods when it really counts.

Two of our top players have/are leaving, you use the rest as if they all have gone? I also think Fab would have left anyway even if we would have won something, he would just be leaving on a high instead (but there is no point speculating about that anyway)

I'm not being fooled by the cleansheet, I know they could have scored, but in that same respect we could have also got at least another 2, so all this ifs and buts just do not work at all (you say that there are none, but that is what you are doing :DD). What happened is we got a clean sheet, what that does mentally for the team is really good. You also forget to mention the situation last night where 2 of our defence went off injured aswell? so that played a big part aswell.

I doubt we will beat the crap out of Man United at their ground with the suspensions and injuries we have, I fully expect the loss. But If we can draw against Liverpool (hopefully win) and get a result against Udinese, then we will be in a good position going forward with players coming back from injury and suspension.

Again to say we were playing like a division one team is so exagerating it actually makes me angry when you say that. Most of the games we lost last season we had the better stats overall, just we weren't putting away our chances or we had some defensive lapses and had major lapses of concentration, that doesn't mean we were playing that badly. Anyway, I don't want to open this all up again :))

But yes of course, if we are doing well this season, then of course I don't think 1 Arsenal fan will be counting their chickens before the eggs have hatched.

Yah Cana and Kanoute fast I think but they still perform admirably! Most others would fail though and I don't blame them! it's VERY hard! I don't even know how they do it!

Anyway, van Persie is Muslim for sure? Is that a fact? I think he is because of his Moroccan wife or something but I can't certify that. Anyone know for sure? And if he actually is religious enough to fast? Somehow I doubt the latter but Marouane might... I don't know... which would explain some of his recent performances to some degree at least.
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Lassana, Mahamadou and Benzema were given a special "hydration" programme by Real's club doctors so they could train and play while fasting, the season before last.

It didn't prevent Lass from scoring this cracker:

YouTube - real madrid vs deportivo la coruna ( 3 - 2 ) goal Lassana Diarra .

There is money to be spent, but we know Wenger will go only a certain length to buy "super quality".

Now to make Matas worse, Chelsea's after Mata....

I like it, this will be the puns used in the media if he comes over here.

We have to pay the money now, if Mata can be as successful through the middle then he should be brought in. But I can understand if he is wary on Mata as he seems to be more of a winger/wide forward (correct me if i'm wrong?) so to spend 30million on a player for positions we have fully covered and not sure if he can fulfil the actual postition we need might be a big gamble.

but to be honest, I would be willing for him to make that gamble.

Wenger has to make some moves in the next two weeks!

Just read this again from 3 weeks ago from Wenger ... Sometimes I wish he'd just shut up...

"Arsene Wenger said he was prepared to lose Nasri on a free transfer next summer rather than sell him now.
"Imagine the worst situation - we lose Fabregas and Nasri," stated Wenger. "You cannot convince people you are ambitious after that. You cannot pretend you are a big club.
"A big club holds onto its big players and gives a message out to all the other big clubs that they just cannot come in and take [players] away from you."

Ooops. With two weeks left, clubs will know we are desperate and therefore we will have to pay a premium for purchases.

Yeah he seems to talk just to stem what is being said at the time.

It's weird because he keeps quiet on alot of things because of this reason I think. Whenever he says something, then it can come back and bite him on the arse.

But then he would never say anything ever again.

To be honest though I think he thinks that and would like to hold onto Nasri, but I think the board maybe pushing him abit on selling him and now the songs from the fans etc, he probably thinks that it would be best for him to go and get the money.

That is all well and good if you buy good quality to fill the void? we will have to wait and see.

I love the guy and hope he proves me wrong as he's still one of my favourites coaches and has entertained me for years with the brand of football he's played, as a neutral, but personally, I blame Wenger for many things these days and can see Arsenal not having CL football next year. And I know Bobby will say a lot of people have been saying this every year, but I never have. This could well be the year Arsenal suddenly finish 6th though in my opinion. I can see that happening. Anywhere between 4th-8th is possible in my opinion so for Gunners' fans' sake, let's hope it's 4th and not 5th or even worse because a season without CL football could make matters much worse.

p.s. I read this elsewhere and of course you always knew a 'joke' like this would be made soon, so not that anyone's surprised but Cesc has now won more in 15 mins with Barcelona than he did in 6 years with Arsenal!

i say, don´t judge a coach by the players he buy, but by the football he is playing with players he can afford.

Mmmm, ok then Wenger may be a brilliant coach, as long as somebody else is working behind the scenes in an efficient way with the signings.

If he doesn't buy big with the money he's got available now, it will be a failure of judgement. Sometimes one can wonder if Wenger is trying to prove a point by winning the league with the weakest side among the top four. That would be an issue of ego getting in the way of things, which I prefer not to believe.

it´s not his money i think, it´s up to the people above him to fund him.. if he don´t use this funds wise, he will get even more criticised...

i just don´t want arsenal to hire next "Hodgson"..

I do think at this point in time our team is weaker in numbers than that of previous years and it looks more likely that we might not finish in the top 4.

But I also think that player wise we have a group that will fight for this team now. Wilshere and Ramsey are hungry and very good footballers, although young I think this might be a plus point for us.

Players like Jenkinson who is an Arsenal supporter although second to Sagna, you know will give his all to the team.

Gervinho is really happy to be at the club and will try his very hardest for us.

We will have a captain in Van Persie that will take no shit and tell players where they are going wrong, alot more than Fab. Van Persie is much more assertive and I believe he will be a better captain, if he can kerb his temper.

Vermaelen is back and seems to be building a good partnership with Koscielny aswell.

We now have a keeper that looks authoritative and very good, although again very young.

All in all I think getting rid of two players that don't want to be with us is a positive in alot of ways, but Wenger does need to beef up the squad for the long season ahead.

We have young hungry players that will give their all in games, which some of the players we let go were not, like Denilson, clichy, Eboue etc. I think this will be a big plus for us. But that comes with inexperience, hopefully this will be overturned by their ability and will to win.

I think wenger needs to definately get in at least 3 players in the transfer window, but if that happens I will fall of my seat.

We need one of those in Midfield and Defence.

Cahill and Gourcuff. (Haven't really watched Cahill. Just a lot of speculation surrounding him so.)

I feel like making a roster.

I keep having little daydreams where Wenger is standing with 3 new signings all together all smiling :DD

Probably like this...

Arsene Wenger said:
We have Diaby, Traore and GunnerSaurus. They have not played since close season, therefore, are like new signings

Arsenal-Arsene-Wenger-001.jpg

Gourcuff has Arsenal player written all over him, great technique and ability but the when the going gets tough runs a mile.

Gourcouff looks like an Arsenal type except for his price tag.

Gunnersaurus is way better than Diaby. But in no time he would be in the injury list too anyway.

I think now the ideal would be for Wenger to invest heavily in midfield. Big buck signings.... ahh, one can only dream. Most probably we will struggle with Frimpong, Diaby, Lansbury....

As for a CB role, I would be satisfied with one CB who's not too expensive, just to be a backup that would prevent us from entering Squillaci territory. I think Koscielny is actually looking very good alongside Vermaelen. I don't want a Jagielka stepping in and putting him on the bench. It could 'kill his career' :D

As for a new CF, maybe Wenger will pull another Sol-type move and bring Bergkamp out of retirement? :P

Humour is the only way out at the moment lads. We're in for a world of hurt this season, even Bobby thinks we might finish below 4th. We're fucked!
